Crossfire vs Z
Double Snicker!! You said Snapper!

This Z was stored in a chicken coop since 1987
People get upset when someone posts to another site on a dare to see if a flame war can be started. (most of us bothered to read the thread on HybridZ and are aware of the dare you accepted). I don't own a V8 Z, but I wouldn't mind having one in addtion to my stock Z, they are a lot of fun to drive (I have driven one). I have nothing against a V8 conversion, but the car you found is too valuable as an original to do this. Financially, and Historically. ANY lesser Z would be a wiser choice. As for you not wanting to hack up the car, You've already started by gutting the interior and putting it up for sale, so don't go blowing "sunshine" up our asses. What do you mean "IF you can find another donor"? There are donor Z's all over the Bay Area. Sell this one for a huge profit and you can afford a donor car and a pile of parts.

If the 240Z were a Woman...
Q. What's the difference between a Z and a woman? A. Bill's been inside a Z I know, I know.........it's not funny to Bill, but it's just a joke.

Crossfire vs Z
Correct. That's how they got to the top of the political pyrimid. Nuke 'em ALL!

Crossfire vs Z
OK, here's my serious comment...........No similarity at all. Crossfire is more reminiscient of American cars of the 40's. I see nothing at all about it that reminds me of a 240Z (or any Z)

Crossfire vs Z
Except Bush. He has no brain. (Kerry isn't any better either, just a different pile of dog doo!)

So why then didn't they put their money down and buy it? Money talks and Bull$hit walks! Sorry David, I don't buy that statement.

deceleration while accelerating?
Wrong!

deceleration while accelerating?
For less than $5 you can replace the fuel filter, cut the old one open and see what amount/kind of crap is in there. It will tell you a lot about the condition of your fuel tank.

A car like that is such a great find, and for $500 ! ! You might be better off cleaning it up a bit and reselling it at a great profit, then finding a car to do your LS1 swap into. A numbers matching Z in reasonable condition would surely fetch you far more than $500 and you'd be preserving a really good car. IMO, doing major modifications to this one wouldn't be in your best interest. Sell it, and take the profits and buy another one AND a pile of parts for your project. BTW, (as you probably know) the "later, thicker shell" doesn't really matter as with an LS1 transplant you are going to have to do a lot of reinforcing to handle that power anyway.

Crangshaft pulley does not come off
YES, You will need to buy, rent, or borrow a "Pulley Puller" to remove the Crankshaft Pulley from your engine. Some Parts stores have them for rent, many have them for sale. Or maybe a friend of yours has oner you can borrow. On my L24, the "Two Grooves and Harmonic Balancer" are all one item. The puller I use grips the Pulley/Damper (Harmonic Balancer) and the center bolt of the puller actually pushes against the nose of the crankshaft to "pull" the assembly off of the crank nose.

260Z Truth
Not sure they can tell you what NEEDs to be replaced without you disasembling the carbs and then talking to you. Anything that you will need, they should be able to get you, or you can get remanufactured carbs from them. ($) Balance tube is a chamber that connects the two intake manifolds (each flows to 3 cylinders) so that the air flow is somewhat "balanced" between each group of 3 cylinders. It also contains the bosses that the carb linkage is mountd onto. As for an advantage to the 260 intake, some racers claim that the 260 manifold flows better than the 240Z manifold. However I am told that the difference (if any) is minimal as measured on a dyno. Spacers *should" be available through the Nissan dealer. At least they were a year ago when I bought a set.

32yr old horsehair padding reaks
"AirEx" brand closed cell foam? (USCG approved material for making boat seat cushions which double as floatation devices) Available in many different thickness starting at 1/4". I haven't used it, but it was suggested by my local foam materials warehouse.

27th z!!!
Sorry if I offended you, Chris. Perhaps I should have chosen my words more carefully. It's just that FOR ME, I couldn't justify the purchase price of a car (sight unseen) in the condition those pictures seem to show. I know it has a low VIN and all, but there is so much room for surprises (and I hate surprises), and I can't imagine the expense to put her right. Having cars w/ sequential VIN's does have carry a certain cache so I am glad that you won the auction, and I know that you will (if anyone can) do right by the car.

Incredible. PT Barnum was right!

deceleration while accelerating?
If the symptoms go away when the hot weather does, it could be related. If you swap out the current one, cut the top off and look inside. Maybe your fuel tank/lines are full of crud or rust and it's plugging the filter. Fram sells a fuel filter (#G3359) for 240Z's.
-
deceleration while accelerating?
Probably more likely to be a fuel related problem, is your fuel filter clean? When was the last time it was changed? But it wouldn't hurt to check the condition of the spark plugs (Clean? Color? Gap?) and check the timing as well.

Calling all Z cars! Need your vote!
Yeah, Craig & Cindy came in 2nd place. Still a good showing, though they deserved to win IMO. Rick, you didn't waste any time checking on the outcome. You posted only 24 minutes after the contest ended! Has anyone checked out the thread of the contender that was disqualified? "Team2Loww". It seems he tried to "stuff the ballot box" and got caught. Also seems he scammed a bunch of people out of thousands of dollars and they had some very "nice" things to say about him. I hope they catch up with the jerk.

"Alternative" Jack Points
Use a Floor Jack under the "cross-member" (it ties the frame rails together under the engine). The cross member also is what the steering rack is mounted to.

MidwestZ??
Tough to see that comment as a neutral, or positive one!

bumper guards
MSA catalog indicates 70 thru 72 bumper guards are different from 73 bumper guards. I do not believe that they will fit on your 73 bumper.

Question about S30 rear disc brakes....
I believe that my 73 had the valve in the right rear also. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find a picture or other info.

Question about S30 rear disc brakes....
My 73 240Z (I no longer own it) also had some sort of valve mounted on the firewall (center of). Anyone know the purpose of that valve? There wasn't one of these in my 71 or 72 240Z.
