De-varnish the valve cover?
Hopefully you got ALL of the stripper out of the Valve Cover (including any that seeped under the metal plate covering the back 1/2 of the cover) cause it is extremely caustic stuff and would EAT any seals it comes in contact with in a heartbeat.

Anyone like my newly painted and cleaned valve cover??
Looks like mine. Textured paint, regular paint, & polished ribs and letters. Next time I'm going to have mine Powder-Coated in the same style.

3 Hole & 2 Hole Fuel pumps
I don't understand how the difference in height of pumps means there is (or could be) different blocks?

Puzzling Oil Leak
1. Usually things like that are meant to allow pressures to be relieved 2. No, it's supposed to be a hole.

74 260 Needs New Struts
Here's a couple of prices for you. You might be able to find the parts cheaper somewhere else, but maybe not. Keep in mind that you'd likely end up spending more due to things breaking or discovering other things that need replacement as th job unfolds. http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PSDC02B http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PSDC02A FWIW, I find it easier to drop the entire suspension to do this kind of work, some others prefer not to.

"Driver of the Year?"
Naw, NAPCAR dropped ESPN like a smelly turd when Rupert M. and NBC/TBS waved all that money in their face. ESPN carried almost all of the NAPCAR races for well over a decade, then got booted out the backdoor after they helped (greatly, IMO) make NAPCAR the 1200 lb gorilla that they are today.

74 260 Needs New Struts
You might be able to do that. It's worth inquiring. Only problem I see is that most reputable shops (in my area) either won't use parts you bring them, or they won't warranty the work installing them. Reason? Because shops make money when they purchase parts to install on a customer's car. If you have time, tools and a friend to help you learn, this is a job you could do yourself. This way your budget goes a lot further.

Just Curious
I don't think anyone cares anymore. The guy seems determined to chop it up and priced it out of reality when he posted it on eBay. Bet it's a goner.

"Driver of the Year?"
Isn't SPEED TV owned by NEWSCORP (Rupert Murdoch) and NAPCAR? Seems to me that it is run with a heavy slant towards NAPCAR in every respect. Interesting that they don't bother to list Michael Schumacher (he's NOT my favorite, but for christ-sake he's a 7-Time World Champion!) FWIW, Fans have had the opportunity to voice their opinions all year long. (not that it matters much when the fans have only 1 out of the 19 votes that will determine the winner) From SPEEDTV Website: ".................. you, the fans, can help us decide the winner of the award by casting your vote right here for the driver you feel most deserves recognition for each quarter of the 2004 season. The award encompasses all racing platforms including NASCAR, Champ Car, IRL, NHRA, SCCA, World of Outlaws and Sports Cars. In its 38th year the DRIVER OF THE YEAR Award will be determined by an independent vote of an 18-member panel of blue ribbon auto racing journalists and broadcasters and one vote based on a cumulative tally by fans voting at www.speedtv.com." :stupid: :stupid:

74 260 Needs New Struts
Considering the labor involved, that price range isn't going to get you very good strut cartridges, IMO. You may want to check prices on whatever struts you want before setting your price range. You could probably get Monroe brand cheapy struts installed in that price range, but they aren't very good. JMO

I think I broke my linkage!!
That's what I thought. I knew that I had to remove the rod assembly from the gas pedal (couldn't get the grommet on from the engine bay) to complete the replacement of the grommet.

What do you think of 72' Z as a daily driver?
Electronic what? What else has been done to the car? Brakes, Clutch, Heater, etc. Would need a lot more info on the car to make an informed answer. A well maintained 72 could easily be a daily driver. One that hasn't had wear items replaced, or has been neglected (other than being driven 2 a month) could be a problem as a daily driver.

Hey all new to this forum w/240z/240sx hybrid question
that may make you "unique" in your mind, but I don't think it means that "everyone knows it's your post without looking at the poster name". Most people probably don't care that it's "your" post any more (or less) than they care if it is anyone else's post.

I think I broke my linkage!!
Well, I had to take one of the balls off of the linkage piece when I replaced the bellows shaped grommet on my linkage, and I don't recall specificly how it came off, but I thought that I unscrewed one end or the other. Anybody else remember how they replaced theirs????

Doesn't the ball thread onto the rod?

Puzzling Oil Leak
FWIW, The pump I bought from Motorsport Auto (aftermarket) was to outward appearances identical to the OEM unit. Made by same manufacturer, etc. They also appear on eBay from time to time. I haven't seen or heard of a repair kit, although if there is a kit, and it has the right parts icluded (the seals you need) it would be the way to go.
-
Puzzling Oil Leak
Not necessarily. At one time I had oil lightly spraying out of a small hole (manufacturer provided) on the underside of the fuel pump. It caused a mess on the front of that side of the engine. The crankcase oil never smelled like gas (I have experienced that before, on another car, a Toyota) at all. Not sure how you sealed the pivot, but unless the seal is extremely flexible, and durable it's not likely to last. I don't know how expensive a fuel pump is in OZ, but you might still be needing one eventually. Like you said, best to keep an eye on it.
