  1. I didn't use the "Kiwi-racist" comment, that can be atributed to someone else, ask him. I indicated that YOUR statement came across as pompous because that is the way it read to myself and some other people. Two separate statements. Perhaps you were not being as clear as you think you were? I understand todays pompousity perfectly. YOU think that an apology is owed to "somebody" because YOU take offense at the term "factory" having been used to describe the "Vintage Z" program that was created, sponsored, and paid for by Nissan: FWIW, no one has called you by "that" name, but yourself.
  2. COuldn't you just unplug the motor currently in your car, and plug in the one you want to test, then operate the switch?

I believe that the statement refered to the fact that the cars were "reassembled/restored" in small shops, not on a production line, and that (perhaps) Nissan specified a higher quality control level than they did 30 years ago in a high(er) volume production environment. I don't believe it had anything to do with national pride/arrogance, etc.

  6. Probably not something you need to worry about if you don't need maximum braking. Stock calipers are 2 piston units, Toyota calipers are 4 piston units. Larger pad surface area, and more "grab" power. As for wheels, it depends on size of your current wheels, and whether you go with vented rotors or stick w/ stock rotors. AFAIK.
  7. Carbon isn't that difficult to remove. Seafoam run through the engine will do it, Water (or coolant) run through the engine (from a blown headgasket) will do it. Water from a spray bottle and a stiff nylon brush will do it on a disassembled engine. Some people worry about using products like Seafoam cause all the grit and crap that gets removed is floating around through your engine for a while, until you drain the oil and the engine stops burning the Seafoam.
  8. I can't provide specifics for the Aussie market, but in the US, all ball joints ARE NOT created equal. Some are servicable (greasable), others are not (no provision for a fitting). Some are high quality, others are not. Nissan units are indeed expensive (in US). Quality aftermarket Ball Joints are marketed under the Moog, and NAPA names, among others, in the US. GMB brand are low quality ones. Most (good and bad) are made in Japan or Korea. Haven't seen any Made in China (yet)

    It was the Quote (only) that sounded "a bit" pompous, not the entire post, otherwise I'd have included the entire post in the quote. As I said, since the statements were separated, I took them to be separate. I don't think you need educating, any more than I do. Your first statement answered the question posed by ALT_255 quite well. Your second statement seemed to be a dig at people who were not motivated to continue the discussion of the footrest or acessory page. If you didn't mean it that way OK, but that is the way it came across here (to me). PS If you wish to continue to discuss, please, let's do it in PM, rather than hijack the thread.
  10. Yes, When I had a valve job and timing chain replacement on an L24 engine many years ago, I was able to remove the carbon on the piston tops with water. Put each piston to TDC (smeared grease around the edge of the cylinder), sprayed water onto the piston and scrubbed with a stiff brush while holding a vacuum near to suck up the carbon particles / excess water.

    This part of the post does sound self deprecating. (Actually, many of us *myself included* do look at you in that way, mistaken or not) In the original post, this statement was separated from the other statements by a blank line (separate paragraph?) ,therefore I took it to be a separate statement from the others. Also, I said it sounded "a bit" pompous, not "more than a little"...... (I hope I am not picking nits here) so please understand that I did not mean anything more than "a bit". Hopefully not, but to me it sounded like you might have been saying that.

    Different design than the crack pipe I found on my lawn two years ago. Cross street neighbors had a party and next morning I found a glass crack pipe, & crack rocks in one bag, and another bag with marijuana nearby.

    Yeah, it seems there are a lot of things that are "hit & miss" on theses cars. Nissan seems to have mixed parts over quite a time frame as they transitioned from one spec to another. I have an (1971) E31 stashed away, I should look to see what valve seats it has. Engine was pulled by me at 70K miles in 1979 and buried in the back corner of the garage.

    Alan; The point I was trying to make is the same as in my reply to Enrique immediately above this post. I don't subscribe to the belief that the value of a thread is directly proportional to the number of replies that it draws. People can learn from it and enjoy it without being part of the discussion. Not being a part of the discussion doesn't mean that people are not interested, but even if they don't believe that the fine details of the marque matter, it doesn't make them "deluded, conceited and - frankly - rather sad." The quoted text just sounded a bit pompous and condecending the way I read it, as if there is no room for people to enjoy the car on their own terms. JMO (and no hard feelings meant)

    I agree with your statements Enrique. However, whether any person joins in the discussion, or just reads the thread and learns from it really shouldn't matter. Either way the thread will have served a useful purpose. The value of a thread should not be measured solely on how many replies it draws. (see ChrisA's post above)

  24. I believe that it does matter. The ports on the Flow Guide Valve are marked as to which should go where.
