Ok, I'm back. Couldn't stay away...
I have a few more minutes here, thought that I would post some pics for your feedback... Lemme know what you think. And yes, the headlight covers are getting nixed. The rims will change to my Hayahsi rims as well... ~B

Ok, I'm back. Couldn't stay away...
Well, after a year of not even logging in and basically starting OVER in the Z world, I have returned. After landing mine on the lid over the 12 foot drop due to another IDIOT driver, I was out of the scene for a bit... And yes, it's always someone else's fault, right??? What can I say? Once the Z pathogens get into the blood, it's at the very least, terminal. I've thought of another Z for a long time, somehow the 1/18 scale is just NOT cutting it. I started surfing craigslist about 6 months ago for another car, just kinda lurking about like a vulture if you will for another Z. I have found a potential candidate and who knows, it could be in the garage in the next two weeks or so. 1972 240 manfu 12/71. I already did some cleaning in the garage (uh-oh he's nesting) to start the "inspection" process if (or should I say "once") the car arrives. Some pluses to the car some neg's. Rust is a factor in some areas, but the floor is intact, rails are good and the battery tray is just starting to go, it can be arrested and I am not concerned about it. The bad part is just in front of the passenger rear wheel in the rocker, not an uncommon area I know, and I don't think that the fix is that bad, I've for sure seen worse as we all have... Pluses are that all the urethane has been done, black box dizzy, thicker bars front and rear, steering coupler, rack bushings. Steve @ Z Therapy just did the SU's all they way thru just before the car was parked. 5 speed with the ZX rear (3.54, 3.90?) Interior is not too bad, torn passenger seat, dash cracked (no suprise), heck, still has the stock hatichi radio. There's more but I gotta keep this one a bit short. Well, I thought that I would chime in, say hello, and let people know that I AM still alive... And like a bad rash, am resurfacing... I'll post some pics soon... Hope everyone is well and the Z's are still toolin' down the road. Chat later, ciao for now. ~Brian

240z Covertable
Wow. $500 bucks. I am jealous, the ONLY reason that I hang onto my '74 is to place the engine into another 240 and then teach the wife how to drive it so she can join me in this madness. If you can't beat 'em join 'em right? At least that's what I'm hoping for... B

I Need Help making Wood block for adjusting timing chain stretch!
I kept it simple, cut a piece of wood, sanded it a bit so nothing would come off the wood getting into the oil, drilled a hole about an inch or so down from the top of "tool" and looped some wire so I could remove the tool after the sporket was back on. Not to attractive, but has always done the job and was REAL cheap... So this would qualify and the not-so-elaborate, but oh-so-effective. If you want the measurements lemme know. b

Stock Injector Specs
Tomohawk, When I had my '78 280 I got the specs from a place in Portland called Bap Geon in Delta Park I believe. By the way that is Oregon... If you want the contact number I can grab it tomorrow. Lemme know. Bri

I Need Help making Wood block for adjusting timing chain stretch!
Quick Adivce: On the Z-therapy video, he uses a screw driver placed in there upside down, using the handle to hold tension. Speaking from experience, I do not recommend this, in the event that you decide to remove the screwdriver after placing the cam sproket back on and the handle stays wedged and the rest of the screwdriver comes out, this IS a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Trust me on this. Bri

I am fed up...
I second that about the SU's.

I am fed up...
I priced the Unilite from Baxters and found that it was 500 plus bucks and thought forget that. If it is indeed $300 roughly, I would consider that, the car already has the mallory pro coil... There is also a capacitive discharge box on the set up that gives me a bad feeling, I have YET to figure out why a person would go to all this expense in the heartbeat and leave the damn ballast there???? I swear this is ignition. And dogma, I am in hillsboro, if you want to know about blue lake I can fill ya in.... And I know of a few mechanics, I just need the next one to have a good idea / scope of what this issue is, I can throw you a few names. B

I am fed up...
Thanks Gav! I agree, now to find one. Somehow I enjoy this madness, which worries me a bit... :stupid:

Will these wheels fit
I agree with the 15" observation. I have seen both and the 15" is a far better fit and the most that Z stock offered I believe? I prefer the '81 turbo zx snowflake wheels but am having a hard time finding a decent set... There is a guy locally (Hillsboro, Oregon) that will dip and repolish the wheels. Brian

I am fed up...
I think that the best idea is the ZX set up, and for the $300 does not seem too bad, I think that finding the correct Dizzy from a junkyard car may be tough although possible... It seems that Beandip found one not too long ago. Anyone know of any for sale? And, in the event that I DO decide to throw the car on a scope, anyone have suggestions regarding the portland area for a decent tech? Thanks all, I am going to figure this dang thing out yet! B

I am fed up...
Anyone have feedback on that Mallory set up? And how pricey? ouch. B

I am fed up...
I will consider that, but am looking for a bolt on switch 'er out type of setup... I will look into the site... Thanks again! Brian

I am fed up...
Is this a common um, upgrade? And if so, did you have ballast before? Any idea where I can find some information on this? Thankyousir. And tomohawk, I can't even find the damn "cents sign" on the keyboard. So, I have no cents. Or is it sense.... hmmm. B

I am fed up...
Long time no talk to!! This dizzy is not vac'd, it's weighted, and I am suspicious of that... But I hate the fact that the stoopid ballast is still there and I am sure that it is an elec. issue... Suggestions? Other that putting it on a dizzy scope, which I am considering, I just HATE paying someone else to tell me what is wrong with the damn thing. It does feel like the advance is dropping off or there is a crossfire... B :dead: to the ballast. that's how I feel.

I am fed up...
I am FED UP with the dual point mallory, as I am sure that this is the reason for the erratic stumbling on acceleration, this motor will free rev ( I know nono ) all day long and then under a load will occasionally seem like a rev limiter has suddenly stepped into the picture. Anyone that has suggestions please lemme know, I drove the car this morning to work and like usual, the problem is gone and the car has GREAT pull and power all the way up. I even beat a fiat off the line. Kidding. But you wait, lunch will come and the car will hesitate again... At any rate, anyone have any suggestions regarding dizzys? I want to ofcourse get away from the points, so those of you out there that have a great set up, please suggest. By the way this is the '74 below... Have a great day and thanks for the .03 cents! :classic:

260Z for trade?
Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, I will also look at the classifieds... 1974 260Z for trade? It -- 1974 260Z for possible trade... I have a 1974 260Z, the engine is strong, is running the L28 block and a N42 ported and polished head. Running a Schneider aggressive cam, 6 in to 2 polished header, nissan flat-top "silver dollar" pistons (compression is somewhere 10 or 11:1). Just had the head gone thru. I am not sure if the crank is diesel or not, or if the engine has been stroked, has tons of power and was built in Texas. I did not have the engine built. I know that it was put together by a guy in Texas by the previous owner and he put around 5k into the motor. Is running the dual point Mallory dizzy setup. Yes, triple mikunis, 44's, with a mikuni intake. Loooove the carbs. Just put a center force dual friction clutch and handles the torque. The paint is flat black, and needs to be redone. Eibach (I think) springs and bars front and rear. Stiff, but handles well. Rear end is open, not lsd, I think that it's a 3:70 (for sure not a 3:90) but I can't remember...IT's very fast. One of the fastest Z's I've been in. Has a 5 speed... Interior is yuck in my opinion, the seats are recaro bucket wannabes. The seats are ok, it's just the rest of the interior that is done. Needs some TLC wiring wise, but more than likely not as bad as I make it sound. I never really worried about it much, lights seem to work and that's all I cared about, I picked up the car for the motor and suspension...Also, has 15" centerlines that are in decent shape. (The flat style) Looking to trade for an early 70's 510 that has some things done... Have a '72 and looking to see what this generates. Also open to other trades, just run it by me... At this point just fishing to see what is out there. And no, right now anyway I do not want to part with just the triples as it seems a lot of people desire these carbs to no suprise... Any interest let me know. Questions as well as I know I left something out of this novel. Have a great day! You can e-mail me at brianandstef@verizon.net... Brian

Ok, I need help on some wheel i.d.
I'm confused. But that is nothing new... So far the racing hart wheels are the most "economical" (if it even applies). So I say they are those. B

Fogging of the Windscreen
Oh man Beandip, nuthin' about my humor????? I am offended! NOT! At any rate, that is the same thing that I have been told about the "milky look". The only difference that I can see in this thread is the fact that my hazeness is usually in the middle of the day on a sunny day when the sun hits the glass, not at night as mentioned... The only cure I know of is replacement of the glass....sorry. Same thing? I don't know.... Gary, yell at me tomorrow, I need to stop in a see the yellow hornet! B

Ok, I need help on some wheel i.d.
Good point, and the offset is an issue. These are going on my '72 510, and since it is the oh-so-trendy 4 door, I need to watch the flare issue... But damn, I love those wheels... Brian
