I agree, I told him it was his call to to use Hi build and block it if needed . He said take a couple of weeks to work on it and call him and he will come take another look at it. It was suprising to find someone who actually cares what it will look like instead of just taking the money . The other shops were not interested in even pricing the car.

Finally found a body shop to paint the Z. He actually stopped by the house to look at it to see how ready it was for paint. He spent about a half hour going over the car and showed me where I needed to spend more time. Still some low spots to fill but not too bad considering. But if painted in present condition he said I would not be happy with the car and will not paint it as is. The lip around the rear wheels will be the toughest for me. He said to take it as far as I can and he will clean it up if needed . Rough quote was about 2k ~ 3k possibly more depending if he needs to use hi build and block it. He said he has too much collision work lined up but you can tell he has a soft spot for classics as he showed me pics of a 240Z he painted 20 yrs ago fitting a 73 or 74 chevelle grill in place of the stock one.
  7. I too would prefer a Datsun slogan with classiczcars.com on the top. In CT the registration sticker is now a big ugly sticker that goes on the lower lt corner of the windshield .It takes the place of the ugly emisssion sticker that went there. This was due to plates being stolen for the sticker .Might be in store for more states in the future.
  8. I had a ski rack on my 82 ZX for many trips to Vermont and Lake Placid. It was made by BEAR and fit right on the hatch. Good times...............
  9. Congartulations on you Z! Has the car been sitting for a while? Did you drain the tank when you changed the pump? If not I would start there. There is a 12mm bolt on the passenger side on bottom of the tank .Drain a gallon and see what comes out. Check the screen on your old pump to see if it was cloged also. Start with basic tests before it gets too expensive changing out good parts. While waiting for more help there is a lot of info in the search function which will give you some ideas on trouble shooting. Good luck ,Jim

As of yet no radiator shops in my area will work on a fuel tank . One said it is because the EPA no longer allows it in CT. So for now it will sit until I figure somthing out or just put it back in and deal with it in the spring.

I remember being in our Stamford office that day. It's a 20 min drive to Manhattan from there so alot of the patients work in the city or have a spouse who does. I keep the radio off while I work so I had no idea why my schedule was empty for the afternoon until a patient told me. On the way home the reality of it hit as I saw lots of heavy equipment and generator trucks with the huge construction lighting headed to the city. Many who came in after that knew somone or had a relative who worked in the towers. Some were fortunate some were not as they told thier stories of the experience. I have not been to the city in a couple of years but I will go see the memorial when it is finished.

www.toptiergas.com. This site lists the retailers which meet higher fuel standards and automakers that reccomend it. I didn't even know it existed.

I stopped at the local radiator shop and he said the EPA no longer allows him to service fuel tanks . I'll make a few calls tomorrow and see if the story is the same elsewhere. I looked on the Renu site and for the price approx 195.00 as a ballpark general figure, I agree overkill for this car. My main concern now is getting a radiator shop to boil it as I have no way to dispose of the chemicals from cleaning it .Jim I thought about the pickup tube and I will try and see if I can slide a piece of hose over it with the end taped off or run it outside the tank and secure it. I can make some kind of grab tool but I'm not sure if it's possible to slide anything over it with clearance issues. I'll look at that tomorrow after work. Thanks for the ideas.

Sorry Jackhammer, I should have been more specific .My second post was to thank you for your reply and I have emailed Por with a few questions. In the later post I was referring to the how to link in 280z1975's post and the reminder from EScalon to blow out the intake tube . And Jim after reading your page I think I'll add the cost of the radiator shop and Por-15 vs. Renu and see how close it is. I'll email some pictures to Renu and see if I can get a quote. Around here I think they still use MTBE which I have to see if that causes problems with any of the products. Not sure if it's alcohol based but it is very toxic to ground water. Thanks for responses and I will post back with the cost comparison between DIY and Renu .

Thanks for the reminder on the Por-15 and the link. I searched the other night but didn't come across that one.

Thanks . The rust is not as bad as I thought it would be ,but I started the day with the intention of just checking the screen in the fuel pump. Before I knew it the tank was in my lap.

This is the extent of the rust in my 77 tank. Can I just neutralize the rust or does this require that I have the tank boiled and coated? Thanks
  18. Looks like it was parked under a hole in the ozone layer.
  19. Another way if you can't remove the clip as on my z is to loosen the lock mechanism on the door. Lower it and the rod will disconnect so you can lift it out still connected to the handle. Not the preferred way but it works.
  20. Thanks Dan, Let me know and hopfully the timing will be right.
  21. I'm looking for turbo wheels if you want to get rid of them.
