A little while ago with help from Toyota san and Alan Thomas, I sent a CD and report of our April 2006 "Back to Bathurst" event to GEIBUN-SHA (publisher of the famous Nostalgic Hero magazine). Well, the October issue that just came out has our little story featured! It's only small but it is there, and hopefully is of some interest to some of the classic car fans in Japan who will read it. I have attached the scan of the article. If any kind souls here would like to translate what it actually says (I'm guessing it's just a succinct version of what I wrote) it'd be much appreciated!
  2. Tomohawk, get a program such as Adaptec or Nero, and making an MP3 CD for your car is no more than a simple drag-and-drop operation.
  3. I'm guessing the U.S. Spec rear quarter reflectors were added when the car was imported? Lots of interesting little details on this car Very cool - just needs those fender mirrors put back on
  4. Did you know that early cars had the headlight buckets made from FRP by a company called Kotobuki, which manufactured outdoor furniture and things.

Yeah that video is on YouTube - pretty cool stuff Actually there are quite a lot of car advertisements there. Some pretty funky ones I just bought a CD that was described as full of old Skyline commercials...... cost me a pretty penny but hopefully it is good. Watch this space

Gotta find one of those old Saabs Kent was talking about... don't think anything else would be quite long enough!
  7. Too right Miles - gave the Japanese a much better choice, as most often you could opt to have the larger engine if you wanted. BTW, be careful when talking about 'absolutes' and Nissan... You will find some L20's in Europe in Laurels and '200C' Cedrics Craig, it's funny what the translators sometimes come up with isn't it.

  10. To this day I still wonder why people say "Sylvia"... I've never seen any Nissan documentation that has it spelt that way. Was it a US thing, or just a mistake? I'm not having a go at you Chris, just wondering! I guess it's the same reason why people call me 'Alphadog'!! I'd love an S10 (with the Japanese bumpers though ).

Well, you can rule out the 280ZX as it had discs on the rear. Mine were from a 240Z, which I had lying around anyway so I thought, "Why not?" Like Art said, you need to measure some things and do some research to find out C210 is unfamiliar territory on these boards. Some of the guys at www.skylinesaustralia.com (Classic Skylines forum) may be able to help.

Hello Zedric! Cool name!! Let's see your 240K

All Datsun 240Ks/Skylines are Nissans, but the opposite is not always true! Miles, please don't think I directed my reply to you. I was just saying in general to bring it back on-topic.
  14. As you've probably noticed, for the large part these mistakes are the same ones, simply being accepted as truth and copied (borrowed) from site to site. There are heaps of sites with information about the classic Skylines, however most of the information is identical between them! It looks like the only way to truly learn about these cars in more detail is to learn Japanese! If only I knew back in grade three what I'd be interested in now, I would have paid much more attention to Horrocks sensei....

We must remember that this is a classic Z website, and Mike has put great effort into making sure it stays that way. Even the 280ZX is not really very welcome here. He created the 240K forums as there were a few of us who were posting here and there simply wasn't anywhere else for us to go!!! It was a compromise. Not wanting to put words in Mike's mouth, I don't think this site is about to expand to cater for much more than it already is. I agree that a name change would be a good thing (as I have said in the past) but don't think it needs to be anything more than "Classic Skylines". But honestly, I don't mind moving a thread every now and then. If you do see something that is not where it should be, please use the "report" button rather than replying about it. This way, all Moderators will get the message and the topic will be soon moved.

I used finned drums on mine - had to modify the backing plate but it was fairly simple to do. Not sure if the upgrade would be worth it, but they're a fair bit lighter.
  17. Interesting Miles, and thank you for the translations! Maybe it's just us Westerners making stuff up (it wouldn't be the first time!) Newman raced R30s, featured in just about all of the Japanese sales campaigns and even had his own "PNV" (Paul Newman Version) R30 - as Craig said.
  18. Ah-ha! Thank you for confirming that Miles. Hako = box and Suka = the first part of the word 'Skyline'. ie, literal translation of "Box Skyline". The R30 had "Iron-Mask" as the facelift version... and some people call the R31 "7th Skyline". Miles, do people in Japan call the R32 "Obakemono"? FWIW, I believe the name "Godzilla" was first used by Wheels magazine.
  19. Yes, I have the C210 Service Manual for AU and it has the wiring diagram at the back. It's a foldout thing - at least one of yours should have it too.......
  20. Wow, if I didn't know any better I would have just thought that was a G-Nose modified to fit the S130. It does look alright, definitely an improvement.
  21. Can we do a proper list of cars and owners? I'm curious... didn't know there were TWELVE.
