  1. Hello everyone. I dropped my P90 head off at the machine shop today. These are the specs I gave him: 262/272 duration 450 lift mill head .020 for a 9:1 ratio 5 way valve grind intake 3 way valve grind exhaust port and polish What do you all think? Let me know. Rick.

He is the guy that sold his business. No more Z stuff, I went there on Friday and everything was gone. Oh well. Rick.

The p90 head has 85k on it and is in great condition. The 260 intake is a little beat up, but with some cleaning and some machine work, they will be beautiful. The junkyard was Ecology in Chula Vista. Most of the Z's were 280z and ZX's. They did have a 260 and one 1972 240. The Z yard in San Diego went out of business and I think Ecology received everything. I was there all day Thursday and Friday pulling stuff out. I think a lot of other people had the same idea. I saw a lot of misc parts in trunks and back seats. It was a great two days of fun.
  4. How long is that sale on for?

Hello everyone. So the other day, I do my weekly search at the junkyards here in San Diego, and what did I find but a p90 head, turbo oil pump, perfect seats to a 1970 240 and an intake manifold to a 260z. I find out that Saturday (today) is half price day at the junkyard. I hide all the parts and came back this morning. My total was $56.00 plus tax. It just does not get better than that. I just had to share my good fortune. Rick.

Definately, the next owner will benefit. I have all the original pieces and all the numbers match. They will get a lot of parts with the car.

Hello everyone. I am restoring a 1970 240Z #11230. I am putting in a more powerful 2.8L motor, so it will not be stock. My question is, should I use the nicer Miata seats, with the speakers in the headrest, or refurbish the original seats. Any input would be helpful. Thanks, Rick.

Well one week ago I brought my 1970 240Z #11320 to the paint shops for estimates. Found a place and brought the car home and started the disassembly process. I had to work Fri Sat and Sun. This morning I towed my Z back to the paint shop with nothing on the car but suspension and wheels. It was a fun four days of taking everything off the car. I will see the car again in two months with the original orange paint. It is a shame that it will not take four days to put it back together. I just wanted everyone to know. It is going to be a long two months. Rick.

I have, in my garage, an 82 ZX 5 speed with 36,000 miles on it. I was told the 78 is a better tranny so I went with that, but I can put the 82 in. Is there an inexpensive LSD kit I can put in my R200 rearend? Let me know, Rick.

Victor, you are pretty sure it is the transmission?

The whirring sound is definately gear derived. I cannot figure out if it is the tranny or the rearend. The sound is only apparent when a load is present. Hopefully this info will help. Rick.

Hello everyone. I have a 1970 240Z with a 78 tranny and a 82 rearend. I have a whirring sound that increases as I accelerate, and goes away when the clutch is in or I am in neutral. I don't know if it is a rearend problem or a tranny problem. If you all could help me troubleshoot, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, Rick.

I have a 1970 and the wires are by the tank for the electric fuel pump. I am not getting any power to the positive side, even with the key on. I will work on this. This will make installation a bit better. Rick.

Great replys. The Ford inertia switch sound good. I may use it. Rick.

Should I wire it through a relay? Rick.

I am putting an 82 280zx motor in my car with the su carbs. No place for the mechanical pump.

Hello everyone. I am planning to install an rx-7 electric fuel pump on my 1970 240Z. When I wire it to keyed power, that means it will be on when my car is on? Will that be all right? Also, should I mount the fuel pump as close to the tank as possible so it is pushing fuel as opposed to pulling fuel? Hopefully someone will be able to answer my query. Thank you. Rick.

Both trannys are in great shape. For everyday driving, I want to choose the one with better off the line performance. Let me know. Thanks. Rick.

Hello everyone. I have a 1970 240Z with a 2.8 (f54), a p79 head and an 82 r-200 dif. My question is, do I use the 1978 or 1982 5-speed I have sitting in my garage. The 78 may be better off the line, but I may get better mpg with the 82. By the way, I have already cut the hole in the trans tunnel for the 78. Let me know. Thanks, Rick.

I have had very good luck in coloring seats. I found a perfect set of tan seats and I used a vinyl paint. You have to prep the seats with vinyl prep and then paint. Once painted I left them in the sun all day. Had the car for four years after that and never had a problem. Try a company called Eastwood or if you have a Tri-cities Paint Co. around you. Good Luck, Rick.
  23. Warm engine, pull coil wire, push accelerator, turn over engine three or four times, get readings accordingly. No problem.

Thanks again. I may go with the p79 just to save a little money. The p90 does seem to flow better on the exhaust side though. Time will tell.

Thank you. What do you think is a fair price for the head?
