Motorsport Auto has their catalog on CD, and you can search their website. I'm not sure what you mean by "reasonable". There are some vendors who seem to price their parts high. Perhaps they are willing to wait for supply to dry up and demand to become high enough that people are willing to pay those prices. People like @esprist may look like they are charging a lot, but it isn't cheap to commission reproductions that look like the originals and will hold up. There used to be one or two other suppliers about 20 years ago. They dropped the Z and focused on more profitable lineups. I'm not sure what it is about the Z car, but not too many vendors can make a living off of supporting us. One thing I suggest is to support this site and buy a copy of the parts CD. @Mike can tell you how. With CD, you can look up factory part numbers. You can take those part numbers to your local Nissan dealer or try http://www.courtesyparts.com. Courtesy Nissan has been supporting the community for a long time. Their website frequently can tell you whether or not the part is still available.

Dang it. I didn't even think of using my Workmate to hold the valve cover still. That's what I get for hiding it in the shed out back...not that I have room in the garage to store it.

I agree. The quality of the wiring diagram is better than in my printed copies of the 72, 73, and 74 FSMs.

Where are you in East Texas? There are Z clubs in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas & Ft Worth. Members there probably know of shops that could help you. There is plenty of help available online, too. As Zed implied, you need to be specific in your problem descriptions. What kind of car knowledge do you have? Do you know how to use a multimeter? Have you downloaded a copy of the Factory Service Manual? It has good break-outs of many of the circuits in the car. Have you looked for where a previous owner might have hacked up the wiring harness?

The Six Million Dollar Z Sorry, I couldn't resist the click-bait title. I had been thinking about this for a while and finally decided to write this down. Stay with me. I think you'll like this story. I vividly remember the years I spent in the Southern California desert near Edwards AFB. The neighborhood kids would hang out and talk or play kick-the-can while enjoying the cool summer evenings. Most of the time we were hanging out near my friend Rick's house. For several years, the neighbor across the street from Rick had a nice orange 260Z parked in the street. I don't ever recall seeing the owner driving it, but at least it wasn't rusting away given the dry climate. The owner kept to himself mostly. He stood out in my mind because of the eye patch he wore. Some of my friends said he lost his eye in an aircraft accident. Sometimes he would come outside to see what was going on around his house, but we were well behaved and never did anything to upset him. Still the car sat on the street. It looked so cool to me. Eventually Rick's father bought the car. Rick was 15, and I suppose his father thought it would be nice for Rick to have the car to drive when he got his license. I moved way not long after that, so I never got to see Rick enjoy tearing up the roads in the 260Z. I did get a chance to catch up with him about six years later and asked about the car. Unfortunately, someone ran into the car, and it was totaled. Chances are that you have seen the man who owned the car before Rick's dad, but you probably haven't seen his face. He was on TV nearly once a week for nearly every week from 1974-1978. Sadly, he passed away about 10 years ago. No "Limp Mode" in the early FI. With these ECUs it usually runs or it doesn't from everything I've read.

I am wondering if that car didn't start out life as an automatic, considering how the wiring diagram indicates the black/yellow wire for starting is interrupted in the automatic car but not the manual.

On the 74 260Z, there was a neutral switch at the transmission as part of the seat belt interlock (See page BE-91 of the Body Electrical section.). There wasn't a neutral switch present in a 4 speed from 72 according to the wiring diagram and the TM section of the service manual.

Thank you, Guy. It is the same car. I've put some sweat equity into it over the last few years. I think the 240Z bumpers help it out a lot! Those are the stainless steel bumpers from Vietnam.

In addition to the relay, an inertia switch would be a very good idea to kill fuel pump power in case of an accident.

I took my 260Z out to ZNationals Track Day at Road Atlanta today. While I didn't participate in the HPDE laps, I did go on the Parade Laps. I also took lots of photos. Wendy also had her turn with the camera during the Parade Laps. Here a video of one of the Parade Laps.

Meanwhile, the UPS guy is thinking, "Why on EARTH is this guy wanting to take a picture of me?"

I received my last order from Black Dragon yesterday. I ordered two sets of door handles. I guess I'll have to make my schedule to install most of the parts I bought.

You can get ECU and TPS as part of the kit.

The website only lists 3 screw and flat tops...and I have 4 screw carbs on both of mine.
