Anybody try Cherrybomb Mufflers?
Before Microsoft paid for my exhaust system that is now on the 70', there was a turbo muffler made by CherryBomb. Looked like a regular muffler but said Cherrybomb on it, I was surprised because I thought they only made the tube style. Dave.

Swapping 260Z spindle for 240Z spindle??? Help
Again, My next question is obviously this...... Part number of the correct KYB struts and Eibach Pro Rate springs for my early 260Z with the measurements above. Thanks for all your inputs, Next Z after this one WILL BE A 240Z. No more 260/280Z crap to worry about from me.

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
Bumping up to a 16" wheel will seriously increase your options when it comes to Performance tires. Manufacturers are trying to keep up with Now-a-days cars and they start at 15" wheels. I went from 14" slotted mags (you all know the kind) and moved up to a 16"X7" then loaded them with 205/40R16's but the ride was too harsh. So I went with a 225/50ZR16 and the ride is very comfortable yet agressive. The tires are Riken Raptors and the price is awesome. I only paid $75 each at Discount Tire. They fill the wheel well beautifully and don't rub, even with the car being lowered 1.5"s all the way around. Dave.

Removing the Valve cover for Polishing
Same thing here. I started with a good dose of degreaser to make sure the grease did'nt affect the polishing. Then went to 1000 grit to smooth everything out, then 1500, then 2000 grit. Then I used a buffing wheel on my bench grinder with a red rouge? to cut thru the scratches. Followed by liquid aluminum polish to buff it all out. You'd be smart to use a deep crystal clear coat afterwards to keep the shine and luster. Make sure it's a hi temp clear coat. You can wash out the buffing material and polish with warm, soapy water and a soft toothbrush for the cracks, before clearcoating. As you can tell from the pictures, I've repeated the process on MANY of the aluminum items in my engine compartment. Schucks, NAPA, AutoZone and many other auto parts stores also carry Anodizing spray in Red, Blue, Gold and some other colors to really make it all come alive and maybe even match some real anodized items on the engine. Dave. The third picture shows the pulley and water neck after being polished (by me) then sprayed with the red anodizing spray, then clearcoated. As an offset to the blue anodized hose fitting.

Swapping 260Z spindle for 240Z spindle??? Help
I measued my 240Z inner tube and it's (with a 1" wide tape measurer) 15.0625"?? or 15-1/16" The 260Z tube measured at 15.1875" or 15-3/16th the OD of both tubes is 2" the ID of the 240Z tube is a smidge over 1 3/4" the ID of the 260Z tube is a smidge under 1 3/4" and seems to have a thicker inner wall, hense the smidge under term. The 260Z strut cap screws onto the 240Z tube beautifully. I'm just gonna reuse the 260Z tubes on the 260Z. I asked the original question because I already had a beautiful set of 240Z tubes ready to go, and I know 240Z's. So my next question is obviously this...... Part number of the correct KYB struts and Eibach Pro Rate springs for my early 260Z with the measurements above. Thanks for all your inputs, Next Z after this one WILL BE A 240Z. No more 260/280Z crap to worry about from me. I found this today when I tore into the 260Z front struts. Please tell me that the KYB's are self contained units that I don't have to fill with oil and assemble one peice at a time. What a fricken mess. Thanks again guys, The second picture is me prepping the control arms for the Urethane bushings. The finish will be hi gloss POR-15. Dave.

Swapping 260Z spindle for 240Z spindle??? Help
It's NOT a later 260Z. It's a 2/74' and that's why I'm confused. I guess I'll just reuse the 260Z equipment (struts and springs) But another question would be.......... Is the typical early 280Z front strut assembly longer than the 3/8" that the 260Z seems to be over the 240Z? If that confused you, here's what I'm asking...... 240Z front strut assembly is 15 7/8" (8/70') 260Z front strut assembly is 16 1/4" (2/74') 280Z front strut assembly is ?? ???" (_/75') ????? If I order 260/280Z Eibach Progressive rate lowering springs, and KYB strts, would this be the correct application for my 2/74? Knowing that the 260Z front assembly is only 3/8" longer and the perch is only 1" lower?? I really appreciate any help or opinions that will get me on track. I'm starting to hate this 260Z crap. Dave.

240Z and 260Z strut/spindle assemblies
I compared the 2 because I'd like to use the 240Z strut assembly on the 260Z but not sure of the ride height difference.

New Undercoating after old was scraped off
Used a torch to heat the old undercoating then scraped it off with a putty knife. Should look good when it's all done.

Swapping 260Z spindle for 240Z spindle??? Help
So as most of you know, I'm rebuilding the 260Z this winter but I think I ran into a snag. As the picture below shows, the 240Z front left spindle/strut assemble is 3/16" shorter than the 260Z assembly (2/74) And the 260Z's spring perch is 1" lower than the 240Z's. So my question is........ If I use the 240Z spindles/strut assemblies and 240Z Eibach PR springs and KYB struts like I would on a 240Z, would there be any ride height differences or unforeseen issues?? From what I can tell, and off the top of my head, The 260Z springs and struts are a slight bit longer, because the spring perch is lower on the strut tube and the tube is 3/16" taller. But it seems like everything else is identical (torsion bar, steering knuckle and control arm) So what did the change in tube length and lower perch do for the 260Z versus the 240Z??? Thanks for the facts and not overloading the thread with opinions (hint hint) Dave.

ZX Dizzy upgrade
If you're worried about noise thru the stero system, re-attach that wire to another condensor and ground it. The points caused haveck but since you're now going electronic, it's not likely to be needed. Dave.

ZX Dizzy upgrade
The only yellowish or faded white/yellow wire should be going to the temp unit.

Finally in Ohio
I just have the Stock fuel pump for now. Till I get serious about a new electric pump. The 240Z runs but needs the Triples tuned badly. Keep an eye on my Gallery for updates on the 260Z. I started some tear down a week ago, the fenders and hood are in the metal bin at the local recyclers and the good ones (buttload of metal work) are on the wall. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=29130&ppuser=4921 The D.S. seat, center console, sound deadener and steering wheel are out but I have to minimize what I take out cause I don't have much room to store everything once it's off the car. Found a few holes in the floor that I was unaware of but nothing major that I can't fix. Started using the Phosphoric Acid on the rust and I'll finish with the Ryno-liner like we did on your Z. Lots of surface rust issues but just surface. The doglegs are shot and I need to redo them but everything else is loking better than I first expected. Lots of plans for it, like.... Electric windows, shaved door handles and locks, shaved hatch, frenched antenna with hide-away door, slightly hidden push-button door handles (electric switch behind a false thumb print size panel) Linear actuators on the hood and hatch, hood and hatch poppers, H4's, LED stuff, Full suspension everything, and too much more to add and still keep this a decent size post. Keep in touch and watch for updates. Dave.

260Z optical distributor and XR3000
In post number 8, he stated that he found the box of needed (missing) parts. Now all he has to do is instal the correct 6 cyl. spacer peice and the optical pick-up and he's good to go. Maybe he'll chime in soon and give us an update on his progress. Thanks for your input though, I know I appreciate it. Dave.

240Z Ad
I have one similar to it. They were the Ads for Nissan when they decided to resale the 240Z's in 97'. The one I have is of Mr. K's Yellow ZG, facing the lower left corner of the page. They were mostly found in Magazine centerfolds, good place for them, eh? Dave.
