  1. Hey there Zak, yeah, they get pretty brittle with old age and it doesn't take much for them to break. I just unhooked the harness and the hose and pulled the reservoir out for now. I'll take care of it come spring. I shot an e-mail to Z Car Source tonight and asked if they had any for a 280Z. If anybody has one, it's them They seem to always have the hard to find factory parts that Nissan no longer makes. They were the ones that were able to get me a factory fuel rail for my Z. Awesome people.
  2. This damn winter season has been SO long and I'm so looking forward to another fun late spring/summer with my Z. I took a run out to my other garage today where I keep her safe during the winter months and went to check up on her. I popped the hood to just make sure all was well with her and as I was looking around under the hood, I noticed a blue puddle of washer fluid on the ground so I thought hmmm that 25-30 below 0 temps we had last week must have taken a toll on her fragile original washer fluid reservoir and sure enough :disappoin Makes me wish that garage was heated but oh well. Anyway I learned that from now on when fall rolls around and I have to put her away for winter, I'm going to drain and remove the washer jug. Going to add that to my "Winterizing List" Just thought I'd share this to all the other northern Z fans that have to store there Z's during winter. Kinda odd as I've never had this problem in the past yrs. I think as that plastic washer jug aged, it just couldn't handle the extream cold temps when sitting all winter long and developed a crack.
  3. "it was actually sucking the soft lines shut cutting off the fuel, and making bad fumes, like it was flooded" Thats odd ? Normally what happens is the standard fuel hose isn't able to handle the higher pressure used in a fuel injection system and they swell up then eventually burst. Not cool
  4. turbo 260 is correct, The L Jetronic uses a Roller vane pump. The roller cell is driven by an electric motor at over 3,500 RPM. The factory pump used in these cars are capable of pressure in excess of 100 PSI which is far higher than any engine or F.I. system require. This is why this type of pump is located very close to or even inside the fuel tank because it does an excellent job at pushing the fuel. Like Jim said, That really high pressure is only reached if the return line is cut off. Plus you have a Fuel Pressure Regulator. It's there for an important reason.
  5. OUCH MAN :hurt: Thats Z Car Abuse The tranny shop is going to love you. Like everyone else has said, Just drive her nice and enjoy the ride. Let all the immature assholes (like ricers for example) wreck there cars

Kinda figured thats what it had to be Sorry to hear about that. Not to freak you out but I've seen a few poor Z's that were so severely rotted in the Cowl area to the point where they were pretty much categorized as "Beyond Repair" Hopefully thats not the case with yours. Best of luck and keep us posted
  7. You mean this one? http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20365&highlight=Headlight+Turnsignal+Upgrade Found it in 2 seconds using the search feature
  8. Sweet. Glad to here you got her figured out Terry. Sorry to hear about the clutch slipping on ya. Oh well, nothing that can't be fixed

I too mentioned the possibility of rust in the Cowl area as well in my reply #2. Hopefully thats not the case but from where you claim it's leaking sure sounds like that could be a possibility Unfortunately, that is a known rust problem area on these cars along with the floor pans, Frame Rails, Batt. tray, spare tire well ect. It also helps if you have one of those little mirrors that extend out like a radio antenna to get a good look around inside the cowl. Best of luck to you,

Congrats D240Zu Looks like a good find there I'm in MN. and my baby is waiting patiently safe and sound in her dry garage for late spring/summer too. I to am going crazy waiting. It sucks no question. Don't be to worried about maintaining her. Thats what all of us on this site are here for. To help fellow Z'ers Also do some searching. There may be a Z club in your area too that can offer some help if you need it. Congrats and welcome to the site.
  11. I ordered mine over the internet and had them shipped to me from Courtesy Nissan and had no problems. They sent me the correct factory part # Ball Joints and Tie Rod Ends for my Z but again, thats the advantage of going factory. Not that it can't happen, but your chances of getting the wrong part from a dealer is less likely to happen. Especially if you have your own parts CD with the part #'s Ordering aftermarket parts over the computer, now thats a different story.

When I saw the Title "HI, I am really NEW!" By hls30.com I thought hmmm did William bump his head working on his Z and forget that he's an old member??? Congratulations man.
  13. Me personally, I give my Z nothing but Factory Parts. I did both Tie Rod Ends along with my Ball Joints last summer on my Z. I bought them all at Courtesy Nissan. "BTW, is this a known problem with non-original Nissan parts?" I've heard many stories of other Z'ers that have ran into the same problem with the holes not lining up with aftermarket Ball Joints, so I'm going to say Yes. However there are a few people like Mark for example that didn't have any fitting issues with aftermarket. My suggestion is get a set of factory Ball Joints but thats me If you feel like you still want to stick with an aftermarket brand, then go with the brands listed by the members above that you know will Fit correctly. Best of luck,
  14. I hate to get into a pissing match here and hate to even give such a thread the time or day but I get so sick of such bullshit remarks like this. Like someone else already said "I love both for different reasons" and I agree. 240, 260, and 280Z's are ALL Awesome. There is no such thing as bad first gen Z car in my honest opinion. 240s, 260s, and 280Z's each have there own cool features. "I have never heard any that owned a 280 talk about their Z with real compassion just the usual I like my Z but a 240 owner talks about his Z like it was part of him and how he loves it.Maybe that it is why a 240 is called a classic." Never heard a 280Z owner talk about there Z with real compassion huh? Well I can't speak for all my fellow 280Z friends but here is MY response to a thread made not long ago. I can post the link to the entire thread if you want. Like I said before, I love them all (240Z, 260Z, and 280Z's and I would love to have a 240Z and 260Z to go with my 280Z but no way in hell would I trade my beautiful 280Z above for a 240, or 260. Like I said, "is my absolute pride and joy and has such a special spot in my heart. No way and repeat NO WAY will I ever sell her. She's like my little precious child :D"
  15. WOW long reply HAHA Awesome job on your Z though man. Well first off let me say congrats on all your hard work. Sounds like you'll have a real fire cracker there once you get the kinks worked out You have done a lot of modifications to it from what I've read. Me being more familiar with the original factory set up on the 280Z's, I probably won't be as much help to you. Sorry. Hopefully someone will chime in with some thoughts & opinions that will help you and you won't have to take it in to some shop Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
  16. huh. besides the new motor and body work done to the back end, what else have you done? Did you restore the entire car? Reason I ask is because maybe the gas Tank could be dirty inside and clogging the fuel filter and restricting fuel flow???? I'm just trying to think of the simple things first The fuel pressure in the 280Z's is suppose to maintain 36.3 PSI Factory.

I didn't know your Cold Start Valve leaked. In that case then yes, you would have problems with it when cold. Not safe either :nervous:
  18. DatsunZsRule posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
I'm glad to hear a new Cold Start Valve solved your problems deadflo but thats odd. :surprised reason I say it's odd is because usually when you have a faulty Thermotime Switch/Cold Start Valve thats malfunctioning, it will run fine when the engine is cold, then when the engine warms up to a certain degrees and the Cold Start Valve is suppose to "disable" and it fails to do so is normally when you notice the problems because it causes it to run way to rich when warm. Anyway In addition to the replies above, I'd also make certain there are no vacuum leaks as well as making sure there are no fuel leaks anywhere.

Have you ever removed that little grill and looked in the cowl area before? My guess is it's probably junked up with debris and isn't draining the water out the bottom like it should. If thats the case, hopefully it's just a matter of cleaning it out good so it can drain water out again and not rust problems
  20. Things that make you say WTF??? Forgive my language
  21. mriz- "Please tell me the ad is written by a 20 something female (no offense)." I hope so too LOL In the photo of the radio and shift knob, look in the passenger footwell If this is a guy he has some serious issues. Just seeing that is enough to scare people away.

634 miles. Thats just amazing. Thanks for the photos Carl. Thank you all for the nice compliments on my beauty too.
  23. If you really want a laugh, read his Description Can't say I care for the white wall tires and shitty bumper job either. I feel bad for that Z. He says: "People that I know that work with cars all the time have complimented its reconstruction time and time again, so know that it's not some hackjob rebuild." You would think those "people" would tell him to at least spend a few more bucks and buy some fusible link covers. I guess you just have to consider the source

This has turned into a pretty interesting thread My Z is an absolute Gem with only 45,500 orig. miles This Z Car is my absolute pride and joy and has such a special spot in my heart. No way and repeat NO WAY will I ever sell her. She's like my little precious child I knew that B.P.E. wouldn't last on Ebay long. It's amazing. That buyer got a hell of deal in my opinion. Carl, was it you that said this guy has another B.P.E. with even less miles??? Thats got to be something to see. How many miles are on that one? 15,000? Do you have any photos of it? Sorry dial up guys for the big photo :nervous:
