Part TWO...What Would You Do
Hey, I got those same identical ramps  Anyway that is very strange. I don't know as much about body repair either but maybe sometime in that Z's life, the previous owner took it some place for service and some moron tech didn't position the lift correctly and damaged the floors and owner bitched at them to fix it and the service place did the cheapest half a$$ed repair that they could get away with to make the owner happy???? Who knows but just a thought

got my @zz whuuped today.
Thats gotta be irritating when you have a problem like that and think the worst first and start messing around with other crap and find out later it was due to something as simple as Low fuel and a clogged fuel filter  At least it's nothing major and also like Dave said, at least the filter cought the majority of the "crud" and didn't make things worse.

1975 datsun 280z 2+2 won't start
Yeah I guess you do have time Didn't realize you were that yung The 1976 FSM will suffice for your 75 280Z. Really no differences between the two. I'm in Southern Minnesota (Cottage Grove/Woodbury area) Had to put my beautiful Z away for her winters nap about a few weeks ago.

If you Follow your FSM closely and take your time you should be able to handle it just fine Again, best of luck with it.

Who has a 77 280z

Who has a 77 280z
Ahh come on now man, now your no better than Fun_in_my_z 77 280's have 170 hp so suck on that First off, I love ALL 1st generation Z's. (240Z 260Z 280Z) All of them had the same beautiful body style that was far ahead of there time, (to this day, they still can't top the 1st.gen style and never will as far as I'm concearned) Bullet proof & powerful L6 motors and drivetrain ect. but each model had there own thing of beauty which made them each a little different to fit each of us Z enthusiasts personal needs (Just my opinion) and I truely love my beautiful 280Z. It's my pride and joy and I'll never part with it. Way back when I was shopping for one, I didn't give a crap which model 1st gen. Z to get as I loved them all. All I cared about was finding one with no rust, low mileage and I met the previous owner of my Z on another Z site that I used to be at before I found this site and he told me he was selling his 280Z and when he sent me photos of it, It was love at first sight It was everything I was looking for and fit my needs like a glove so thats how I ended up with a beautiful 1977 280Z. Anyway sorry for the long reply but in my opinion anyone who's closed minded about a certain model Z isn't a true Classic Z Car Enthusiast and don't know what they are missing. Ok, I'm finished voicing my thoughts

i'm addicted...
I thought that too how it would be cool to have a second 1st gen. Z but being that I live in the north where I have to deal with the sh!tty winter season I'm only able to drive my blue baby during late spring and summer and thats it. Spring/summer sails by soooo fast. It would be tough to give 2 Z's equal amounts of attention both wrenching on them and driving them. So for this reason, I made the decision to just have the one. My Blue baby gets my full attention I think she appreciates that too I store mine at a real secure storage facility during winter. Good luck in your 2nd search if you decide to get another one. It's worth it if you live down south and can have them out year round and have more time.

1975 datsun 280z 2+2 won't start
I was able to get your video to work. MAN, that previous owner made one hell of a mess :stupid: It's no surprise to me your having such a problem. First thing I would do is perform the test procedures at the E.C.U. in the FSM (I hope you have a Factory Service Manual) if not, get one. It will pay for itself over and over again. Anyway under normal circumstances, the E.C.U.'s rarely fail. What kills them is voltage spikes or such things like disconnecting/reconnecting a battery with a large draw on the system like having the headlights on for example. Anyway seeing your video and the mess this guy made with the wiring leads me to wonder about the condition of the E.C.U. It's possible though that the E.C.U. might have survived so test it first. If it does check out OK then what I would do next is check at the E.C.U. and make sure that it's receiving what is called a Tach Signal. This signal that the E.C.U. receives is a square wave and you'll need a digital tachometer to perform this test. Connect your digital tach to the tach lead input of the E.C.U. and crank the engine. If the tach reads anything other than 0, then that means the E.C.U. is receiving the tach signal. If you get 0 then connect your digital tach to the negative terminal of the coil. If you get a reading there then that means that wire from the coil to the E.C.U. needs to be repaired which like I said earlier wouldn't surprise me seeing that mess the P/O made Now if you still get 0 at the negative terminal of the coil, then the primary ignition system needs repair. Best of luck

280z Door Handle
If you continue to have a difficult time finding one, I Recommend Z Car Source out of AZ. They always seem to be able to get hard to come by factory parts for the 1st gen. Z Cars. I've had awesome luck with them. www.zcarsource.com

Hello there Stephen, Glad to hear from you. Also happy to hear you and your family (including your Datsun's ) are surviving the fires. Yeah, it was a nice vacation. Like them all though it went to fast "I'm retired but I still work a little 3 day a week job at Ace Hardware just to keep busy. It still gives me time to sleep in and work on the cars." Smart man thats the way to do it. Take care over there in California.

Looking For A 280Z
Yeah, considering the ugly weather season is around the corner  I'd wait till next late spring when the weather is nice and you can go out and play around with your newly purchased Z. Rushing into it now and having to store it right after just buying it would majorly bum you out I recently just got mine all prepped for winter storage again I hate this time of year Gotta put all my toys away Best place to look is down south obviously. I found mine in Arizona. Shipping cost of course will be a factor for you too. If your very lucky you may come across one that is closer north to you (someone who is also a Z Nut that stored it every winter) Just have to be patient and keep your eyes open. When I had mine shipped from AZ. to me in MN. I did terminal to terminal instead of door to door to cut the cost down a little. Turned out to be a bad idea as My poor Z ran sooo rough because of the mechanical attention it needed I had to limp it home from way out in minneapolis to my house in St. Paul, MN. I remember I even had to stop and take a break because about half way home, I learned it had engine cooling issues and noticed the temp. guage was starting to read pretty hot and I didn't want to risk cracking the head :nervous: The tires were so old on it from sitting for who knows how long and I noticed the tread was beginning to separate :paranoid: and the tires were WAY off balance when I was driving on the highway home, it felt like I was driving on railroad ties all the way home. I remember my brother who was riding with me that day was laughing because my wrist watch was chattering from holding onto the steering wheel . Anyway sorry to go off on my story telling but when I did get my Z home that day from that nervous drive I thought "I should have just spent the extra damn money on the door to door delivery" . Something for you to think about if you get one that needs a little work and your going to have it shipped. Again best of luck in your search.

Looking For A 280Z
Well If your looking for one thats in mint condition with very low miles, then yes, those price ranges sound about right to me. The way it usually always works out is 1) either you pay the price all in one shot by getting a perfect one that needs nothing, or 2) you give a Z a good home that needs a little attention and pay as you go along after purchasing it for a lower price by fixing her up. Basically it comes down to what your skill level is mechanically and if your willing to take the time or want to do work on your new/old Z Either way it's not a cheap hobby . What hobby is? Way back when I was Z Car Shopping, I wanted to find one with low miles and NO rust. I didn't care if it needed attention mechanically as I enjoy wrenching on them and after waiting a while patiently, I found my blue beauty in Gilbert, AZ. (Low miles, beautiful paint job, No rust, but did need mechanical attention. Now I got my 280Z running and riding as good as she looks. Like new Best of luck with your Z Car search.

Whats your guy's thoughts on these mirrors??
Yep, those are it No, I'm never getting rid of those babies I had a bastard of a time finding them. The previous owner of my car lost the head on the passenger side and when I got my Z, I had to replace it and it was very difficult to find another set.
