Don't use weld-through primer. The welds often don't penetrate. I talked to my friend who does $100k restorations and sprays epoxy primer and then cleans the area with a dremel with a wire wheel where the weld goes. I recently tried weld-through primer when installing my AAR trunk. At times it was like welding to copper. Don't waste your time and money on it. You can use a good PPG epoxy or something like that. Another option is POR15, etc. Chuck

I think the new head bolts are turbo bolts. It's a good idea to put new bolts in but I have re-used them. I don't think that the ARP studs cost too much more than the stock bolts. I use the ARP studs on the race engines and it's nice to not have to buy new bolts or worry if the used ones will hold up. I use a piece of wood to hold the timing chain. It's been working for almost 30 years! Chuck

I've been using Centric brand rotors on the race car for the last few years and they've held up well. I get them from Rock Auto or Amazon. I also use their aluminum drums. We use Carbotech pads. They make several different compounds. Check their website and/or email them with questions. They're easy to deal with. Chuck

I need to prep my race car this weekend and it's time for a carb rebuild. I have clear tubes that I was using for the 23mm down measurement. At 23mm down in the bowl my car runs very well so it must be close. I'll see where 23mm down puts the fuel in the carbs. The difference between 2.5 and 10 turns is significant and I should be able to tell which setting to use when checking for correct fuel level in the carbs. I'll take good pictures and try to figure this out. Chuck

It's not too hard to do. But you need the tools - jack, jack stands, air compressor, cut off tool, sander, grinder, welder, mask, primer, paint and undercoating. Chuck

That's a really easy fix and won't take long. Cut out the rust, hammer the dents out and weld in the new metal. Chuck

This is a dream garage for me. I've done a lot of the work myself. Since that last picture was taken I've insulated the entire garage and added a mini split heat pump for the paint and work bays. I still have to pull lines for TV cable and internet and also run air lines. Probably add more LED lights, build more shelving... It never ends! It's been a great learning experience. I built 2 2'x8' workbenches with 9 sliding drawers each. I'd never done any of that before. This woodworking stuff is new to me. I'm in the garage almost every day. Today is my birthday so I'm leaving work early to go home and celebrate by working on the AAR! :-) Chuck

My gf supports my habit. She goes to all of my races to help and be my spotter on the radio, helps at Carlisle's swap meet, goes to car shows, etc. Last year she bought a Citron yella 71 Challenger. I used Shop Line paint with no flex agent on the air dam on my race car and it's holding up fine after 5 years of racing, wrecking and flexing. Chuck

My lights on my 72 were really dim as well. I bought Dave Irwin's plug-n-play relay kit and now it's like driving a modern car. That's the quickest/easiest fix. Chuck

I'm very lucky to have all of that. There's also a big 3-car garage up by the house. Inside is a Ram EcoDiesel, Fiat Abarth and Mini Cooper S. And I rent a 2-story 30x40 garage that keeps my 75 280Z, 69 240Z, 72 BMW 2002 tii and 74 2002 turbo. Chuck

I found some better shots. The left side of the building is a 4-stall barn for the horses. The first bay is the clean/paint bay, 2nd bay is a work bay and the others are the storage area. We store hay and the tractor on the far end. I'll putting in a 2-post lift in the work bay this year I hope.
