Actually the front floor pans are good shape rust wise but they have about a 4 inch tare in them... no rust around it just looks like someone jamed a screwdriver through it and tore it down 4 or 5 inches. This car has been in rural texas all its life, so it most definantly could be some teenagers offroading in it. You know how those country folk are :classic:
  5. Where do i get the cool stitched leather type of interior that i see on some of the 240z's. It is mainly around the back hatch and up in the front kick pannels by pedals.

Looking at the link you gave mike, it looks like the floor pans have semi-frame rails connecting them. Well it looks like that is the part that is rusted. Anyway the pics are on my gallery. Thanks alot guys

I just found out that my 73 z has about 5 inches of rust on the bottom part of the back of the frame rail attaching it to the rest of the frame. I thought I checked the whole car before buying but oh well. I will try to post a picture of it. I dont know what to do, I have never had any rust repair experience and was wondering what the first steps should be... Thanks
  10. wow, I thought I checked the whole car for rust... The last six inches of the passenger side frame rail is rusted, I cant tell how bad because of the amount of dirt and asphalt that is plastered on. But I can move this one about a half inch up and down and i cant move the other side at all... I am trying not to panic but my first z is just getting worse and worse. I will try to post a pic later so you guys can see it.
  11. Any reputable z shops in dallas?
  12. I swaped the worn out tire with a rear one that has more tread evenly on it. It seemed to make it considerably better. How do I check wheel bearings, then tie rod ends, ball joints, steering rack bushings and steering coupler. Where would I get these parts?
  13. Ive been driving around with boat anchors and did not even know it AHHHHHHHHHH Help me Good thing i am not on the coast
  14. I have been told by many I need new shocks and struts, and also thin the same. I would like to replace the pieces with high performance springs and struts, maybe swaybars (the shock is inside the strut, right?) Okay, I think it is mainly the front suspension that is out but most of the rubber parts are worn out all around. I would like the most serious streetracing springs and struts I can get for the least amount of money (dont we all). I just wanted to know what type of set ups you guys think are the best or have experience with, and also where to get them!!! Thanks
  15. You forgot the last three letter acronym, EGR valve. This is the exhaust gas recycling valve. I think it is supposed to recycle unused exhaust gas (mixture still unburned). If you get crappy gas mileage this might be it. I dont know how to check it, but I know it is probobly there... Good luck
  16. I ran into it. And I bounced off, Sooooo I guess it passed the ole bounce test.... Hey biker, What is the bounce test???
  17. I just bought a 1973 240z and love it already. It runs well, I think. It smells like it runs rich, it has hitachi round tops(I hear they suck but they came with the car). Also sometimes if it is not too warm it will bog down and lose power if i give it to much gas a t a low rpm(I think that means it runs rich also). It has no ac belt and no other thing belt (my bro told me the other thing is a smog colector or something)? How do i know when to get the valves adjusted? (can i do this myself?) The car hadn't been started in 3 months and had 1 year old gas in it, it started and ran 130 miles back to dallas. It idles well at 1000rpm when i start it up but when it gets warm and I am driving it doesnt want to idle at 1k untill i have come to a stop and let it sit there for about 10 seconds... I dont have to use the choke to start up up (maybe cause I think its rich). Very powerful though... Any information would be much appreciated. Allen
  18. Okay, The problems are starting. I took the z to the shop and got it aligned on a digital rack thing. I want to say it got a little better but that may just be wishfull thinking I forgot the printout at the store... The guy said it probobly needed struts and shocks all around, it sounds like WWII when i go over those little circular lane markers. steering wheel shakes back and forth about a half inch gradually up from 40. The car still veres to the right when i let go at higher speeds, but it goes the the left when I hit the brakes heavily. He also said there was a loose rod of some type (forgot :stupid:) Heres the weird part. My front left tire is worn on the inside. Cruising along i hear a vvhhrrrrrrrrrrrr sound like the treads not hitting the round right? Like the sound the bicicle tires use to make at high speeds. BUT when i turn right the sound goes away (front right tire is brand new front left is old and worn in inside) and when i turn left the sound gets louder... The guy who I bought the car from said he replaced the rotors and maybe the calipers right b 4 I bought it. Thanks for your help guys! Oh and I think my hitatchi's are tunned rich, smells rich and bogs out on me some times when i step on it at lower rpms...:tapemouth :tapemouth
  19. I just got my first z. It is a 1973 240z that I bought from a guy 100 miles out of dallas for 1800$ I am no mechanic and dont know much about these cars but I really want to learn. The car has 91k original miles repainted white beige a couple years ago(okay paint) and only has a rust spot the size of a dime on the bottom left part of the rear window next to rubber. It was broken into a few months before he sold it and they broke steering columb and one door lock. I just need to know some resources I need to start fixin this baby up. Seller told me a new tire would get rid of the vibration that comes on at about 60mph, did that and still vibrates. The car pulls to the right like the alignment is out of whack, and the inside of the front left tire is worn. I dont know what the hell it is but i have not gotten it aligned yet. Could this be the suspension, camber. I dont know anyway to many little questions I guess I just need some advise on where to find the information to start fixing this car. The car has some odds and ins but I already love it and cant wait to get it driving right Thanks alot, Allen
