  1. Couple of comments.... I have been told by several people actively involved in the Tea Party movement that the Tea Party is NOT a political party. Suggest you take the advice of your third grade teacher and "look it up". Perhaps the political left are trying to force us into socialism, (as if that horse hasn't alreadly left the barn) but it could be equally said that the political right are trying to force fascism on us. Remember, Rush Limbaugh is an admitted drug abuser. Illegal drug abuser. Criticism of entitlement may be a lovely conversation for those whom have not the morals and ethics of taking care of the society from which they live, but I seriously question how American that belief is. I always thought that Americans took care of Americans. Perhaps the fasciscts have us convinced that we should focus on taking care of the rest of the world?

    The early 240Z days
  3. I prefer the NISMO graphic over the 240Z as I think the colors clash with the green Z. Just a personal thing perhaps. And a Ferrari graphic as a small gift for all your efforts.
  4. Starting grid for the 24 hour race this weekend. Nissan powered cars qualified 1st and 3rd in LMP2 class. http://www.lola-group.com/newsstory.asp?NewsId=332 Interestingly, the fastest petrolium powered car qualified 8th. Wave of the future.
  5. I don't recall the 2.4 L Porsche 911 racing in CP back in the day. But I DO know what you are talking about, Greg. Keep the faith!
  6. German. The red one sure looks to be a Vintage Z but the silver one is confusing. It has no hatch or side vents!?!! It has been restored also. I don't think I would trust the accuracy. The blue French Zed is Sean Dezart's.
  7. Are these the type of belts you have? Early - lift buckle? Or do you have the push-button buckle?
  8. Sorry! Stupid me. :stupid: I don't have that type.

Quick search of the all knowing internet turned up this from www.getinlane.com: Here are some FAQs about what you can and can't modify on your car. BUMPER Q. I would like to take off my front bumper. Is this illegal and will I get fined? Also do I need to notify my insurance company? A: It is not illegal to remove the bumper but you must ensure that all surfaces are then smoothed down and there are no rough edges. You must also ensure that the lights and registration plate are properly positioned. Your insurance company needs to be informed as this is a modification.

I would imagine that your insurance company would not like you to be operating your car without a front bumper. I also imagine that Maryland has a law about the removal of bumpers. Suggest you check into the legality of your bumper removal and where your state requires the license tag to be placed.
  11. Wouldn't you replace the entire U-joint? If you think the bearings are worn out, don't you think the inner and outer races are worn out too?

You should have a VIN tag on your drivers door that will tell you approximately when the car was manufactured. What you cannot tell from any of the VIN tags is if your car was an HLS30U, UV, or UN. Assuming it is a manual transmission it would not be a UA, or a UAN. But these designations are of minor consequence. For the 1972 model year, the H in your VIN # signifies an L-24 engine type, the L signifies left-hand-drive and the S30 is the chassis type and they were all built in the same Japanese factory. Datsun USA did not import any factory options, however by 1972, USA options were available through Datsun dealers and they were dealer installed and American manufactured. AMCO Manufacturing Corporation supplied the options. I see your paint code number has rubbed off and you can match your orginal color to this reference: http://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html
  14. Here's a picture of the bumper Alan refers to.

The restoration solution is to make them and weld them back into place. They were never intended to be undone and redone; yes they break. (B R E A K) I used Plasti-dip.

Yes, the wire holder is stock. I recall Kats discussed this part when he found a new one. Good luck finding one. They are rare as hens teeth.
  18. I see this argument all the time and it violates the basis of simple logic. Sales happened after the fact, in this case the intention. The intention, therefor, cannot be supported this way. Furthermore, it is well documented what the sales projections were and they do not support the intention of a primary US export market either. Although it is true that a specific configurtation of the S30 model was targeted for export to the North American market, it was not initially considered a primary market. In the very begining, I suspect the only one with grand expectations was Yutaka Katayama.

Rear stabilizer bar part number 55611-E7210. I'll add that the roll bar in the drawing appears to be the sports option 96100-E7275. Very nice drawing.

  21. Dan, If you are trying to load a picture into your post, click the "go advanced" button on the lower right of the reply box. It will expand the text editor to include the "manage attachments" command. Does that help? Once you click "manage attachments", the new window will have an "add files" button... and then a "select files" button. After you have selected all your files to upload, there is an "upload" button. Here is a picture of the E46 balance tube with the connection on the end. I think the e41 type balance tube has the connection on the top? Or both end and top?

I've never heard of that, Jerry. The round quarter vents to my knowledge were always an open vent to the inside of the car as opposed to the hatch vents which had a backdraft flap. I might guess that with a pressurized air-conditioned interior, the vent should be closed. Perhaps that's why the dum-dum?

This is what the inside of your fender should look like. A 'v' shaped cup over the round hole. There is no top on the cup and it points up so that water doesn't get into the car. Yes, the badge is directional from side to side and visible from the outside if you know what to look for. I can't remember and I can't find a picture easily, but don't the cars with quarter vents have punched vents in the interior panels? They look just like the speaker vents but they are up at the vent hole? I thought my interior panels without any vent holes were unique to the hatch vent arrangement. BTW the flow through ventilation designed for the Z is positive pressure from the cowl and the quarter holes are the exhaust vents.
  24. And to ad that Mark Lambert was the guy responsible for inviting Dennis and coordinating the filming. I saw the trailer and it looks like the show was edited well. Should be a fun re-run of a fantastic day. Thanks again to everyone who came to the car show.

Boy, has this topic been thrashed over the years. An archive search is suggested from Her Majesty. In the mean time the attached pictures should help. 'D' hubcaps, or wheel covers, came in two styles. The early style had fewer spring clips to mount the wheel than the later style. The location of the air valve hole is different between the two styles. You are reading correct information here. They were chromed with the grey (anthricite), metallic, matchstick finish that matches the grill and the tail light valance. I know we have argued about this but I'm in the matching color camp. The actual center caps with the 'D' are chromed plastic with a black matt finish paint. There are other center cap designs like the chorme hexagonal center nut you see on early domestic market cars. Enjoy the pictures.
