  1. Here is a series 1 for sale near me. Actually in the town my in-laws live and where I’ll be next week when I get home, I can’t get another car but thought you’d guys lie to see it. Its on FB marketplace. $4,000 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/890953161530115/
  2. Good luck on getting the materials for the build. When I go to my local hardware store there has been are no electrical PVC conduit for weeks , scarce supply of latex paint at Sherwin Williams. We’ve had a house in the neighborhood waiting on a standing seam metal roof for about 6 weeks now. I’ve heard siding is hard to get too. Hopefully Omicron doesn’t put production back on its butt again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Sorry, I must have missed that post. Looks like nobody has bitten off on it, FrankenZ for sure. I did lean something about my collection of parts. I have so many parts in several bins and now realize I don’t need those rear shock tower caps in because mine is a 77. I also have the proper 77 covers. Zcardepot charges $76 each for those older puppies.
  4. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224586811672?hash=item344a6ac918:g:HPAAAOSw3ZFfyTd8 These dents should buff right out and that rust needs a splash or rust inhibitor. It’s stuff like this that makes me wonder where things are going? Are cars going up in value that fast or is our money becoming progressively worthless? We bought a 2021 Suburban one year ago at about 6k under the sticker MSRP. About 6 weeks ago the dealership called us and said they’d be willing to offer us MSRP for the car. When I went online to look at similar vehicles they were goin for at 9k above MSRP. Someone slap me and wake me up?
  5. Dave, he told me $395 is the standard rate unless it’s really bad. Shipping is almost free for me so it works. Spoke to the guy in Pittsburgh on the phone and he was very familiar with the Z tank and inspired confidence. Said he’s gotten a lot of Z and RX tanks this year. 2 week turn around.
  6. As soon as I get home, I’m dropping the tank, boxing it up and sending it out. Will get that Uhaul box. Thanks Jim!, you da man! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Thanks Jim, I’m going to call them today and get more info. Thanks for sharing that! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Yep, live on the coast. I actually live on an outer bank island. My city has a population of 3,700, but it’s big vacation spot and ranked best beach in NC. We’ve had a major major influx of people from NY, NJ, MD and CT to surrounding areas. 70% of home sales are from people from those areas. Escaping covid and high state taxes I’m told by my neighbor who is the #1 realtor in the area. It’s so bad locals have been priced out of the market. My county has a population of 69,500 and we’ve had 89 deaths total from Covid and only 8,900 confirmed covid cases. So people have their guard down for sure.

I got one for you, When I lived in Meridian MS and was a flight instructor at the Navy base, my roommate crashed his pathfinder and borrowed my 88 Toyota pickup 4x4 for 3 months. I finally got my car back when his was repaired and one day my fiancé’ now wife opened the glove box to get something and pulled out a set of women’s panties. Boy did I have to explaining to do! Somehow deep in her mind she still doesn’t believe me? Every now and then she says something about those panties. 😵‍💫
  10. Gents ,sitting in the hotel bar in Aachen, Germany drinking beers alone, the guy I’m flying with lives in Germany (we send pilots here for 4 hrs from US), so he’s at home with his family, The COVID things is a big deal over here, where at home where I live it’s a almost a thing of the past. Nobody wears masks where I live anymore and life is pretty much normal. Not here, you have to show proof of vaccination everywhere you go and people wear mask outdoors alone. They scan your phone as you enter a business. I don’t have that phone QR code and get the stink eye when I show my old school CDC card. To enter the Christmas market they scan and tag your wrists. I don’t fly until tomorrow night. So I’ve got time to burn now. Anyway you all know about by fuel tank issue. I called a company in Raleigh, NC about 2 hrs from where I live and they repair and fix fuel tanks. They guy said it would be as good as new and they’d repair the leaking area where the hoses attach. 100% guaranteed he said. I was on the fence about ordering a new tank but held off after I told my wife it was $825 shipped for a new tank on a car that she hates. We have a $500 policy? Any purchase over $500 requires us to get permission from the other, She said…” how much have you spent of this car that sits there and leaks gas in the garage?” $350 to do the fuel tank restoration! That doesn’t need spouse approval so it the direction I’m going. https://www.northraleighautomotive.com/fuel-tank.html
  11. Hey, I wanted to piggy back my question on this recent thread. These transmissions can get confusing and especially telling exactly which one you have. I pulled a 5 speed out of my car (wasn’t original - had yellow marker with 280Z 5 speed written on it). I assumed it was a wide ration 5 speed from an early ZX or late Z. This transmission had two electrical switches near the filler plug. I assume one was reverse light and the other a neutral safety switch. The transmission I got off a 82 or 83 ZX, can’t recall, only has one switch and I assume it’s the reverse light switch. When I looked at the 82 FSM it shows four switches on that transmission? Other 2 say “top gear” and O.D switch. Wondering Is it possible I don’t have a close ratio ZX tranny since it only has the one switch? My car wiring harness only has one connection too, which. I Image again is the reverse light switch. So I have two 5 speeds and I’m not 100% sure which ones they are. My propeller shaft and transmission were not original it appears noted by the yellow marker. No idea what Easter egg I’ll find with the differential because I bought an 82 ZX diff too…..it’s possible there is one already on my car? II want to get the right combo of transmission and diffs as well so ID’ing everything I have properly is critical. Time to crack open diff cases I guess. Too bad I leave for work for 11 days on Monday. Doesn’t my job know I’ve got work to do on the Z? This image below is from the 82 FSM
  12. I agree but wanted to make sure there wasn’t something I was missing. I called and spoke to the guy at Zcarsource. He was super nice, their program is to refurbish the tank you send them. If it has an holes or leaks they won’t accept it. Mine may be salvageable but would require someone to put new welds on the entry exit pipe.
  13. Have a question for the group about fuel tanks. I know these tanks changed over the years and I’m about to order one from S30world. On the website the tank dates concern me a bit and I want to make sure I get the correct one. My car was built in 11/76 making it an early 1977 model. On the S30world website it shows me ordering a 1976 tank as the dates for that tank go from 1/75 to 12/76. I’m almost 100% sure my tank is different from a 1975 tank. Does anyone know when they changed the tanks between 1975 and 1977? I do have a pic of my tank when it was out of the car, see below.
  14. Bruce, I do have the plastic finisher for the flat deck, but don’t know if my body has attach points. I got the finisher from a guy in Memphis, he sold me a bunch of parts for $300 he pulled off his 78 black pearl, that he did a serious mod too. It was a good deal and in there was this finisher, I have two wooden deck floors, one flat and one sloped. Only have the sloped end pieces (ones near wheel well). I can fab those if need be our of some Masonite board.
  15. CO, thanks. I’ll go through those today. Much appreciate you digging them up. If it a lot of work I’ll focus on the big rocks ...aka fuel tank and rear suspension. Pulled my 82 ZX differential out of my parts storage...got to open her up and take a look inside and clean it up for paint. I’ll put that in when I do the rest of the rear suspension but Fuel Tank is #1 right now. Looking forward to reading about your deck mod today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Looking forward to seeing your tank. I head to work for 11 days on Monday and my wife is off work this week which = no Z therapy this week, more like dusting and decorating for me. I feel like every corner I make on this car there are three more fallen trees in the road I need to get around. I thought my tank issues were in my rear view mirror. While that tank is a bIt expenses you won’t ever mess with it again or be suck on the side of the road with rust backed up in your. If I drop my tank now I run the risk of fuel leaking in my garage from lines while I’m flying Christmas gifts around. My wife would be pissed so, I’ve drained the tanks and leaving it alone. Once I get the tank out I can make a better assessment but will probably end up buying the same tank you got.
  17. He are pics of my hatch area I just took. Will 280z doors from earlier years fit here? I don’t have a spare tire but someone who had a 78 gave me one and it’s diameter is much less than my spot for a spare . I think the inflatables only came on 78? I found some that match my paint for $59 http://www.2040-parts.com/70-78-datsun-240z-260z-280z-interior-trim-jack-and-tool-stowage-storage-doors-i310729/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I can drop a tank in less than 20 mins. 1) 4 x 10mm bolts around gas cap 2) 2 x 14mm bolts (deep socket req’d) on tank straps 3) 1x Phillips head screw on large hose clamp for main hose from filler tube 4x 10 mm hose clamps to remove feed and return lines. She’s now on the ground Then a Beer.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Cliff, I get your position but I’m not driving it yet because I’ve still got work to do. Welding the floor patches, rear suspension and my latest problem. I decided to put 5 gallon of fresh gas in the tank yesterday and woke up this AM and the garage was full of gas fumes. So bad you could smell it in the master bath above the garage. The tank is leaking where the two metal hoses exit the tank, one goes to the pump and the other is the return line. I thought stopped it with JB weld but that didn’t hold. I also had rust particles in my pre-filter. Bottom line the tank needs to come out and be replaced or repaired, I had this tank boiled and sealed two years ago but it appears to not be working as advertised. I’d prefer the the flat deck for for a few reasons. You get more space, there is better options to mount speakers back there if I do that. You can get a nice mat back there. Haven’t seen any that fit the slopped deck and I think it’s a cleaner look. But you might be correct and the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Also if it’s a lot of work requiring metal cutting then you are probably correct.
  20. I have an early 77, production date is 11/76. Mine has the weird slopped rear hatch area, which I don’t like. I’m assuming this changes corresponded with the fuel tank and spare tire changes they made in 77. Nissan abandoned this slopped deck in late 77 probably because they thought it sucked too. I’d like to change mine to the flat deck but wasn’t sure how difficult that is. Does someone have a pic of the deck area on a later 77 or 78? Also my car doesn’t have the compartment doors on the little storage areas behind the seats in the rear deck. Did they stop putting those in after 76 and if so will the early 280z doors fit . Mine has the mounting holes just no doors? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I read a story about Steve Jobs. When his engineers came to him with the first iPhone prototype Steve asked them what kind of screw they were using. He said he wanted stainless steel, they told him it would only add cost and no value to the the phone. He said something like “ but I’ll know they aren’t stainless”. I too struggle with being obsessive and it helps me be good at my job but can bog me down to with personal projects. My old boss told me once, “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Where in NC is this shop? I have a spare 5 speed. Wondering if the place is near me. This spare 5 speed needs a rebuild, otherwise what would I do with it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What did you decide? I need to put new speaker there too. Those Pyles are on Amazon for $31. Crutchfiield has a large selection too. Cliff any mods to make that speak fit? How is the sound? I’m tired to removing and install8ng things twice. I just pulled those panels off and plan to put speakers in there and never pull it again.
  25. Thanks for the tips. I have only done a cold valve adjustment so I need to get it hot and do another adjustment . The engine has less than 30 mins run time on it so I’m slowly exercising it. Yesterday the oil pressure gauge looked low to me. The scale on the gauge goes 0-90psi. The needle was sitting around 30psi. Not sure yet if this is correct. Could be the sensor which is a ZX version (2 spade connectors vs 1 bullet). I made an adaptor plug to got from bullet to spade and left on spade fitting empty. Maybe that’s the issue.
