Replacing exhaust system on my 72 240z from the manifold to the back
I have a stock exhaust manifold that I had ceramic coated and I have used the metal gasket in your photos for years with good success. My stock down pipe extended above the flange and fits into the manifold. Make sure these aren't broken. I have always retighted the three bolts after heat cycled the motor several times Good luck Ps never needed the gasket maker Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Shifter question
This particular lever seems to have sufficient space. I'm still waffling whether to give it a try. Keep the suggestions coming Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Shifter question
Thanks guys for confirming I am not a total loonie. How ever in discussing this my local friends all agreed it would shorten the the throw. The problem arises in actual drilling the new pivot points in all three pieces. Getting it parallel to the original pivot point seems paramount. Probably more trouble than it's worth. I am open to your thoughts. Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Shifter question
Hummm guess it won't work because if I drill holes and raise the lever the lever moves out of the transmission mechanism. Anyone see a reason NOT to try it? I Can always move the pin back to the original position. Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Shifter question
Ops. Was I wrong because that make no sense to me. The bottom of the lever has to stay static to even work. I may stupid about this but it seems to that the fulcrum has to move to gain movement on one end and shorten on the other. Drilling thru both and moving the pin higher makes more movement to the shift mechanism in the trans. Right? If that works then shorting the lever is still an option which is what I did on my series I trans. Love the input to help me get the thinking right. Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Shifter question
There seems to be on this shift lever. That is what would dictate the maximum amount I feel would be safe. Plus I would be concerned about making the throw too short. I was looking at the short throw shift kit on our 2.4 RS subie and it only raised the pivot point about 3/4 inch. Plus I can't see how it would affect going back to the original point if needed. Would you drill a small pilot hole and then enlarge increase the bit size? Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Shifter question
This is a close ratio from 83 Z. My thinking is not to raise the shifter only to raise the pivot point. Isn't that what a short shifter does? I would have to drill both pieces. Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Shifter question
While cleaning up my transmission for installation I was pondering this. If i drill a new hole where the X is, wouldn't that create a shorter throw. Would it raise the pivot point? What problem might it create? Need help from you engineers. Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

When and Where did You get yours?
Purchased a 71 in 1995 from an owner in Tacoma WA. Drove it mostly as a daily driver. Did sympathetic updates over the years: Ztherapy SUs, custom exhaust, and improved the interior. My ownership ended in Oct 2012 thanks to an 84 year old lady. I bought the salvage and kept the best parts to move to my current 72 that was a one owner car that had sat for over 15 yrs. First drove it in 2015 and then completed a complete repainted and rust repair in 2016. Currently waiting for the rechrome of bumpers, then adding the new LSD & 5 speed I purchased and have a full Zstory header and exhaust system ready to go on. Ps; saving all of the stock parts.
