Bending float tab direction - 3 screw SU
Yes it is simpler on SU's with a clear tube and 20mm. I used the water tower method on triple Webers to improve precision and balance. SK Racing and Mikuni have adjustable float height with is best solution.

For a full rebuild, shimming is not needed when you have access to tensioner and chain guides.

Bending float tab direction - 3 screw SU
I did the calculations a while ago for a test rig using a column of water. The pressure down on needle to open it vs density for floating to close the needle was approximately the same ratio as if you used a column of gasoline or water of the same length. The heavier water column pushes needle valve more, but the denser water also pushes the float up with more pressure than gas. Maybe someone else can double check this to validate.

HLS30-00006 at the Crusher?
Alan, some are very interesting points. Thanks! With respect to the recordings and recollections of events 50 years ago. Nissan is on record on their web site quoting Bob Sharp that HLS30-00006 was desired at the NYC Auto Show " I saw my very first Z car-a green one-at the New York Coliseum auto show ". Both Nissan and the Bob Sharp quote are in error. I will assume Bob was referring to the Oct 69 event rather than the April 70 Coliseum event as clarified by @gnozez who asked Bob about this. Likewise the photos of Ginza and the press driving event are a little uncertain as to the cars and locations of the photos. Since the COMPANY and CAR OWNER's are in error, how the heck are we to figure it out except by making reasonable assumptions...thus I stand by HLS30-00006 being coloured green and at the Oct show, and by having found 50% of the publicly known images of that car in 1969!!! As a request, and I'm sure many others here would welcome the info, could you please use your resources, knowledge, connections, and language abilities to find out about the cars HLS30-00009, 10, 11, and 12 as well as the test car flown to the USA in . Dec1969? We seem to know about all of the LHD early birds except these 5. Many thanks!

I would fill those pits with something as they are outside of the piston sealing region but would make a nice "chain of lakes" for coolant to leak. Some JB Weld to fill and a flat to knock down would do the trick. I'd rather have some micro bumps rather than the big pits.

HLS30-00006 at the Crusher?
I guess the USA promotion would have been in line with the past items like Silva, 510, etc. in the USA. We do not see much of that as well but we know it happened.

HLS30-00006 at the Crusher?
I think many photos were taken but the people who took them are not posting due to their generation/tech savy, loss of photos, non-importance, media format (slide vs paper print), etc. It is just like all of the other car shows and press events from back then. There just are not many internet-published photos for most of these. Occasionally we find a nugget like Chris's Boston, or Kat's LA, or Mike's Vancouver, or your Tokyo images but these are all so rare.

HLS30-00006 at the Crusher?
That could be the case for some data but in this case it is too compelling. We will just have to be patient for colour photos to eventually pop up to confirm 100%. Colorizing does make some b/w photos look nicer or provide context. Nissan were "photoshoping" back in the day so it is nothing new:

HLS30-00006 at the Crusher?
Nope. It is just mighteee purdeeee. Academically, all 4 photos of HLS30-00006 show clear front turn lights so this is *very* strong evidence pointing to the same unique car, in addition to the dark colour, time line, geographical area, production numbers, and VIN numbers. Understanding why 00007 and 00008 had amber turn indicators and why 00006 had clear and kept them into Jan is an interesting topic.

HLS30-00006 at the Crusher?
Colorized Green at NYC Press Preview I again assert that HLS30-00006 (green) did show duty for Nissan Motor Corporation East (NYC, Boston, Montreal) based on these photos: I'll assert that HLS30-00008 (silver) did show and ad duty for Nissan Motor Corporation West (LA) based on these photos: I'll assert that HLS30-00007 (Red) did film and ad duty for both regions based on these photos and videos: HLS30-00007 Red Commercial.mp4 HLS30-00007.mp4

Happy 2019! A lot of 50 year milestones coming up!
Oct 30, 1969 Boston Auto Show Great photo of HLS30-00006 thanks to @26th-Z Note the white turn lights, tan interior. This car was given to Bob Sharp in Jan of 1970 and her started racing it as 33 shortly after. Same car in May, 1970 Another photo at same show

Drive-by-wire
I had DBW on my Rav 4 and it sucked... no resolution at low rpms. Really jerky when parking or going very slow. I hate it! Just like electrical power steering at the column... it usually sucks. They rebuild the wheel to make it cheaper, not better. Digression. If you ever drive in sock or bare feet, you will be amazed at huge step in precise throttle control. DBW does not have this. It is like driving with winter boots on.

- Guess what these are and from what engine?
@HS30-H interesting input for sure. I have never viewed the OHC and valve train of the original L20. What does it look like? It is possible the initial influence was in the head for the original L20 then a trickle down to the L12/20/24 block after problems popped up in the original L20 short block.- Guess what these are and from what engine?
Mercedes M-180 for LHD. The L-gata head is same non-cross flow and basically mirrored. Not a big change. The alternator and starter are even on the same side. The M180 also has the shared intake/exhaust manifold fastener design and coolant entry location. M180 distributor is in the same location. Oil filter location was flipped to other side on the L-gatta and moved forward as a starter was on the mirrored location. Even the same inline Distributor, Spindle, Oil Pump configuration with worm gear drive.- Guess what these are and from what engine?
There is enough evidence in the similarity of the parts alone to convince anyone of a strong relationship between the two. It is not convergent evolution. It also happened before the Prince merger so the design could not have been acquired via that path. Finally the strong or loose interpretation of the Nostalgic Hero article seems to seal the matter. If I had the magazine article I could get a friend in Osaka to translate it to get a clearer picture however, I have faith in Carl's research. Bottom line is that the L engines have a strong resemblance to the Mercedes M-180 engine. I think this is a good thing!- Guess what these are and from what engine?
Ok, putting this thread to bed THANKS TO CARL BECK! @Carl Beck Mr. Hiroshi Iida: revealed in an interview with Nostalic Hero Magazine he started development of an in-line six cylinder engine in July of 1964. the purpose of this was to compete with Toyota, which already had a six cylinder engine in the Toyota Crown. to catch-up with Toyota Mr. Idia’s team, in the Large Engine Development section was given only one year to develop the L20 the L20 was introduced in Oct. of 1965 in the Cedric. the fastest way to develop an in-line six cylinder engine, was to use an existing 4 cylinder block and add two cylinders he liked the Mercedes Benz OHC and chain driven valve train - so he used that.- 1971 film with Z's

I have a few recent Hondas that have bleeder screws on the top of the engine to get the air pockets out of the coolant system. - Guess what these are and from what engine?
