  1. I think many of us learned the 11:25 oil pump routine the hard way like I did back in my 510 days.
  2. Very well said, Carl!!

How did the N47 get such a bad rap? I have two of them now. One on my 78 Z and one on my 79 810. They're both fine. I have seen cracked N47's but I have also seen many of the others cracked. I wouldn't necessarily single out the N47 because I've always had good luck with them.
  4. I don't know why he isn't an active member. I have seen him and his car around town as we do live in the same city but I've never actually spoken to him. I have also seen the car at some of the SoCal Datsun/Nissan shows. Nice car, but for my tastes, a bit overdone.
  5. I have read about and talked to many people about the 3.1 stroker. The consensus is that it has to be done 'right' (whatever that is) in order for it to work properly. They talk about overheating problems, they mention that you might not get the gain you would expect from the 300 extra cc's, etc. It seems to me that his list of modifications was designed more to impress rather than perform. I have come across many of these 'highly modified' Z's with blinding chrome and stainless steel that my stock 78 will outrun or at least keep up with. I would be leary about the fact that he is willing to drop 18 grand from his original investment.
  6. As Carl said, the wale tail never came on a 'Z'.

  8. The Sentra SER Spec-V is the latest SER. I'm not really into the fwd cars but I just wondered if anyone out there knew how they performed and how they compared to the WRX. The early to mid 90's Sentra SER's seemed pretty quick. Maybe I'll take a look at www.sentra.net
  9. How do these cars compare performance-wise to a Sentra SER-SpecV?

The question had to do with 350Z 5 lug wheels. The hybrid Z write up does not mention splining the new holes. Seems kind of Mickey Mouse to me as do spacers. There are plenty of rims that will properly fit the four lug pattern and clear everything without spacers.
  16. That engine sounds a bit like the L24E that was used in the USA in the 77-79 810 and the 80-84 Maxima. I have a 79 810 2dr. with that engine. It has the offset oil filter angling up and forward but no provision for a cooler. It has an N47 head and the 280z/zx type fuel injection. It's all stock and the engine has never been out of the car. It only has 80000 miles on it. Though it is some 400cc smaller than my 78 280Z engine, it's tough to notice any performance difference between the two. In fact I think the L24E in my 810 is a tad quicker through the gears than the L28 in my Z.

Both the 'Iron Cross' and the six spoke ZX wheels are fairly plentiful in the junkyards here is SoCal. You might have to search a while to find good center caps, however. You can pick the rims up for $25 or less each. A metal polisher will charge $40 to $50 a wheel to polish them. I have the six spoke rims on my 810 and the 'Iron Cross' rims on my 78 280Z. I polished them myself. You have to be able to stand working with muriatic acid because thats what you do the initial cleaning with. Then there is lots of grinding, sanding, buffing, and polishing over and over and over, etc. It's a lot of work and very time consuming to get good results. Take a look at the pictures of my Z in my gallery. I haven't done the 810's rims yet, but soon.
  18. A picture taken in Sept. 2002 about 2 months before I retired from Ralphs Grocery Co. Would have made a good retirement present! (The Harley too!) And, yes Carl, DeeDee is cute!!

Mike, that is the title I was looking for. It's been so long since I've seen it that I confused the title with the Petersen 'Complete Book Of Datsun'. Would you like to part with it? Let me know.

Does anyone out there have a copy of Michael F. Hollanders' "Complete Datsun Guide" that they would like to sell, trade or otherwise part with? I had one until about three or so years ago until we moved and haven't been able to find it.

Remember, there are also magazines that credit Goertz with the design for the Z. (Or anything else for that matter!) FWIW

The part number (25545-N3600) comes up as 'Switch t/s' in the Nismoparts.com database. It shows a price of $21.23 plus shipping. In my experience, this doesn't mean that it is still available through them. You would still have to call to check availability. Their parts database is useful also for inputing a known parts number to get a description of the part.

I checked the Optus and Foxtel websites and they seem to only offer 'History Channel' as opposed to 'History Channel International' which is where this program airs. Over here in the US you have to have digital cable or some type of dish/sattelite setup in order to get this channel. I'm not familiar with such setups in Oz.
