'71 Hatch Strut
I'm with bambi, I'd be interested if it worked also. I much rather have two struts holding the hatch up than just one.

'71 Hatch Strut
$100 for a hatch strut!!! That's insane!! Might as well be on eBay for that price. Maybe I'll just leave the 'helper' and strut alone.

'71 Hatch Strut
I took a closer look at it this morning and it does look manufactured not home made. Nice idea but I will be buying a new strut.

Removing Door Panels
That's what I thought, I'll go buy one. I also don't have a choice on pulling them. On the pass side the outside handle will not open the door, only the inside handle. On the driver's side the outside handle will sometimes not open the door, this really sucks as it happened to me for the first time yesterday in the rain and I had to climb in through the hatch!

It's Official, I'm a 240Z Owner!!!!
Car Plans: Refresh her, not restore and make her "my Z". Since a few mods have already been made and the manufacturer ID plate is missing from under the hood I'm not so concerned with doing a full on restore, I never was nor could I afford it. Plans include trying to find a R180 3.9 from a Datsun 720 4x4 to put in, keeping a 5-speed, putting in an F54 block with a P90 head. Repainting her and cleaning up and replacing any necessary interior parts (carpet, recover seats, replace dash, etc). As far as use goes, I will drive her on nice sunny days (but not hot ones!) and autox her with Texas Spokes Sports Car Club (I used to be a member years ago when I raced my Accord, took 3rd place back in '92). Please feel free to comment on my plans but rude remarks are un-necessary. Have no fear! I'm not going to ruin the way it looks with some of the horrid conversions that are out there! I love the body just the way it is (minus the rust and add a new coat of paint).

A Pleasant Suprise, and Confirmation of What Previous Owner Stands for
You guys crack me up! No, I'm not complaining too much; mostly about the lack of information and mis-information I was given about the car and the inspection place. Speaking of the inspection I just returned from having it done and it passed so now I can drive my new toy legally! :classic: I am quite happy to have found the 5-speed, I was going to put one in any how. Now I just have to figure out what model it is to see if it's the one I want to keep in it. mperdue, Sorry, I thought I answered this in the other post where you asked it but I must have forgot to. Front & Rear Strut Braces
Inexpensive but not garbage. I have an early '71 and would like a pair of strut braces. I've seen some on ebay for like $25-50 but am suspisios about the quality of the construction and materials. If anyony know about these I'd appretiate you comments.

A Pleasant Suprise, and Confirmation of What Previous Owner Stands for
Previous Owner = LIAR As I was driving my Z today I got to wondering about the tranny, don't ask me why, so I tried to shift into what would be 5th gear. Holly crap!!!! It went into gear!! According to the previous owner NO modification were EVER made to the car yet not only does it has a header but now it has a 5-speed! This coupled with the fact that the shop that they said they took it to for the inspection does not exist leads to my first statement above. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about the header it saves me from having to get one and the same with the 5-speed. :classic:

Rusty Spare Tire Well Repair
But what mperdue? Are the Marine Clean, Metal Ready, and Tie-Cote Primer also products made by the POR-15 people?

Rusty Spare Tire Well Repair
My spare tire well has some rust in it, no wholes (except for the manufacturer drain whole) just bad surface rust. Waht's the best way to get rid of it and treat the area? I was thinking taking a wire wheel on a drill to it to clean most of it up then something that would do a more fine finishing clean up. Then POR-15 the entire tire well (everything below the hatch floor). What are your oppinions? Here a pic of the area: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5626&password=&sort=7&thecat=500

Throtal Body Spacers???
Please forgive my ignorance but aren't these throtal body spacers on my carbs??? http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5629&password=&sort=7&thecat=500 WHY? Do they help or hurt the performance of this car?

Rubber Seal Kit for 240Z from VB
bambikiller, Thank you for the pic, I'll compare it to my hatch. Not right now though, it is pouring outside which means that I'll have to empty my swimming pool....errrr....ummmm.....spare tire well after it stops. kmack, Is the sealant stuff in the tube that MSA or VB sells the same as what you are talking about?

Rubber Seal Kit for 240Z from VB
I'm looking at buying the rubber seal kit from VB for my 240Z but it does not look quite right. For instance on the rear hatch there is only on seal on the body but they show an inner and outter seal in the kit. Is this something that changed in the later 240Z models, is mine missing one of the seals (does not seam to be room for another one in there), or what? I desperately have to replace the hatch window seal and figure that while I'm at it I might as well do all of them as time and necessity dictate so buying the kit is a much cheaper way to go.

How Long Does It Take...
Emptyness....there are no black & white "place holders" it just says that the gallery contains no images. :disappoin Please don't say that I have to spend an hour uploading all the pix again!

Removing Louvers
A screwdriver it is then. Thanx for the help!! Why remove them? Personal preference. I have never liked louvers and therefore will be removing them VERY quickly. Not to mention that I have to take them off any way so I can replace the hatch glass seal. Furthermore, I will be autoxing this car so this is additional weitht I do not need. As far as keeping out the heat and sun, there is always window tint which I will replace (the old tint on the car has scratches in it and it has turned purple). Believe me, living in Texas I know all too well about heat and sun. Plus I used to manage a window tint shop years ago. I will gladly sell these louvers to anyone who wants them once I remove them from the car, otherwise they're going in the trash.

How Long Does It Take...
Hmmm....I hope so! I uploaded about 26 pix and it said that it was successful after each one (had to do them one at a time so this was very time consuming).

How Long Does It Take...
Oh, it's a manual process... What a drag for whoever has to do that. I suppose that it must be that way to keep objectionable pix from appearing and such.

How Long Does It Take...
How long does it take to have pix you upload into your gallery approved and posted? It's been about 4 hours. Sorry but I'm just excited! I can't wait for everyone to see my new Z, plus I have had requests for pix. :classic:

Hi/Low Beam Indicator
The Hi/Low beam indicator does work, you just can't see it during the day! It is VERY dim as is all the dash lights. Is this normal or is there a way to fix the dimness?

Removing Louvers
How in the world do I remove these ugly things from my baby??? Here is a pic of the lower attachment mechanism. It looks like you need a key or something.

'71 Hatch Strut
Is this a normal hatch strut for an early '71 model? It has a "leg" on it that holds the hatch open and you have to lift it up to close the hatch. This just seams strange to me, the strut should be all that holds the hatch open...but then again there is only one strut and this hatch is heavy.

Battery Tray
Some rust here but it seem to only be surface, I poked and pounded on it with a screwdriver before purchasing the car. Who know what I will find once I pull the tray out to repair this though...
