Is Hagerty Insurance the way to go?
I'm not sure where you figured I was saying this when you quoted me but I insinuated no such thing in any way! Please do not attack people on this forum when you have no basis.

Is Hagerty Insurance the way to go?
Check NADA, it's a fair value I think but only if you don't have tons of cash into your Z in upgrades and restore expenses. Allstate has something like this also, my agent told me that their guidlines were a lot like Hagerty's.

Is Hagerty Insurance the way to go?
The guy I talked to at Hagerty or Grundy (can't remember which) told me that I could never drive it to work (I asked because I do this a couple times a year on a really nice day) but in the same sentence he also said that they really don't know where you are driving to or from. This comes down to one's own integrety, ethics, and morallity. You can drive it to work or the store and if something does happen lie about what you were doing but you'd better make sure the story is solid and any police report reflects what you tell the insurance company. Now at this point you may be committing a crime by falsifying a police report and certainly committing insurance fraud. If you are caught you'd better believe you will pay the price. A huge number of people get away with this kind of thing every year...but do you really want to risk being one of the ones who gets caught? Just my 2cents worth.

And who's your policy with? I spoke with Hagerty and they will not cover the car at all if you ever use it to race.

Is Hagerty Insurance the way to go?
CAUTION!!! Not all agents will tell you everything, and not all agents know everything. I used to work for an insurance company and it was amazing how many customers would call and have no idea what insurance coverage they did and didn't have. They constantly told me that the agent just sold them what he said they needed and they didn't questions it but when they got hit by an uninsured/underinsured driver and found that they were not covered they were shocked! Your best bet is to read the ENTIRE POLICY, BEFORE signing it and paying any money!! You must watch out for yourself and not rely on the insurance agent to do it all for you. Ask questions if you are confused or do not understand and if you are uncomfortable with the answers or not confident in the agent's answers call the underwriting department for that company and ask them.

Is Hagerty Insurance the way to go?
1) No, I don't have one of these companies yet I have my Z on my Allstate policy with my other autos. 2) Don't know, for the same reason as #1. 3) Lie. But if you get caught, which typically happen during a claim, they will not pay out and will also non-renew your policy. It's a bad idea and not recommended but the only way around it I see unless you have a friend/relative with a garage that will let you use it or pay for a garage style storage unit (not an open air parking storage like I have for the parts car and trailer).

I second that. Proper torque is preferred.

Carbon Fibre (or similar) hatches?
NO! You can get a used stock hatch for $50-100 depending upon condition, and a fiberglass hood for a bit over $100. So $1000 for a light-weight hatch is really high IMHO. I paid $1500 for my '70 240Z to put this in perspective even more.

LD28 crank what are they worth in the US of A?
In the US I have seen them sell for as little as $200 on up to $300 for the part...then add shipping to where ever. These are used parts of course. As for junk yards...I was hot on the search last month and they were not available any cheaper. Most junk yards only had complete LD28 engines and would not part them out, they wanted to sell the entire engine. But I did find one that was selling the engine for $200 so I convinced them to pull the crank and sell it to me for the same price leaving them some additional parts they could still sell. These little gems are rather tough to find and when you do locate one they hold a nice high price tag on them.

Loads of parts for sale - parting out entire car!!
I took a look at the pix of the part you need. Are you still looking for one and did you really want to drive down here to pick it up? I'm about 1000 miles from Cedar Rapids (my in-laws live there) so I know about the drive... If you are still looking and want to come get it I will go take a look and shoot a couple pix of mine so you can see the if you want it.

headlight relay upgrade harness's for sale
Yes, can you please give us more information about your LED conversion? I was thinking of doing this on my dash lights but had not thought about the tail lights or marker/signal lights. I would like some words of wisdom from someone who has been there. I'd be interested in where you got the parts, what was involved, part numbers if you have them still, etc, etc, etc. I do think that a new thread should be started for this though Zs-ondabrain so as not to take this one off topic.

Crank pulley bolt
I didn't have a metric socket large enough (it's larger than a 24mm) so I used a 1 1/16 socket on mine. Hope this helps.

AC pully removal
Yes, you're right...you can not remove it with what you have done. I recently pulled the crank pulley from a 240Z with that AC pulley and found that the AC pulley is not only attached to the main crank pulley with those two small bolts but it us also under the crank pulley bolt. So you must remove the crank pulley bolt (get an impact wrench, I had to remove the radiator to get my impact wrench in there) then the AC pulley will just fall off. Then you can replace the crank pulley bolt. See this thread for a discussion on removing the crank pulley bolt. Easier solution, leave the AC pulley alone.

Crank pulley bolt
Impact wrench! This is the only way I have had any luck. However with the engine still in the car I had to pull the radiator to get my impact wrench in there.

headlight relay upgrade harness's for sale
I am interested in one for my 240Z but would like to combine the shipping with others that you may have in the works like the tail lights. Can you tell me how progress is coming on any other upgrades like this for the 240Z? I know that you must be extremely busy with this project now...
