Anyone get their 15s mounted yet?
  2. Inf posted a post in a topic in Carburetor Central
The carbs have pistons which move up and down inside, the oil serves as a damping fluid to keep the pistons from jerking up too rapidly with a sudden increase in throttle deflection.

    Is this thread a joke?
  7. While I know with MY car I want to keep the powerplant as it is, I am astounded at some of the hardcore hell-or-high-water brand loyalty in this thread. I didn't know we had so many blind fanboys running around.
  8. I'm not sure about california but in Texas you are considered 'common law' married or whatever after living together for 6 months.
  9. You'll probably find it easier to get online while traveling from a city in Korea than you would a city here. The internet is a much more pervasive part of their culture than in our own.

That reminds me of quite a startling thing I had happen to me a few weeks ago. I was driving from Dallas to Austin on a very humid day with a cold front moving southward with a very defined leading edge. About 50 miles north of Austin, I passed through the front going from 45 degree F air to 68 degree F air almost instantly. I had not been running the heater since I had a jacket and gloves on anyway, so the windows were very cold compared to the air and instantly all my windows/mirrors fogged over completely on the outside. At first, I reached up to try to wipe the windscreen with my hand to no avail and realized it was on the outside. I ran the wipers but each the time the wipers came back for another pass the glass had completely fogged over again. Add to this a completely fogged over rear hatch glass and all side windows and mirror while driving 70mph down a crowded interstate and you get the picture. If I had bothered to have my heater running from the beginning it wouldn't have happened, or perhaps not to such a degree.

There are bolt holes above and behind the quarter windows. This is where your shoulder harness is supposed to be bolted in. Some retard took it out apparently.

How about infrastructure? Bridges, roadways, etc? The interstate system construction was/is funded with taxpayer dollars wasn't it? Police? Fire department?

  14. So what is the whole point of this thread again?
  15. Wake up buddy. Engineers don't work for peanuts, it costs money to redesign things. Carl is right. If this was such a minor and easy to fix problem, they would have FIXED it and sold it to begin with instead of cutting their losses. Judging simply from the fact that they dropped it after investing all that time/money into designing it indicates to me that that it probably had some sort of fundamental design flaw, correction of which would have required enough manpower and retooling to obliterate any profit margin they hoped to make on it. I do not know much about this B&M company, but from what I gather they are not a non-profit organization : they are likely (wait lemme check, are they based in the USA? Yes they are.) governed by money most of all. Something that will cost X amount of money to design and produce, and sell for Y amount of money, where Y is infinitesimal compared to X, then they would have to sell a great volume of units. From what you're telling us here, I really cannot think of anyone I personally know who would buy one. Would you really pay enough to help cover a sizeable fraction of the design and production costs yourself? From what I can tell, the main 'performance' applications of automatic transmissions in Z cars is for drag racing. I think those guys won't be using the same 3 speed slushboxes that were put in the S30. Edit : forum didn't like my mathematical symbols

Mine is a reprint I bought from Andy Russel(I think) about a year or two ago. Cover says: "SERVICE MANUAL DATSUN 240Z SPORTS MODEL S30 SERIES ENGINE CHASSIS AND BODY" This is on the back: "Issued Date: March, 1997 (010350) Printed in U.S.A. Publication No. SM2E-L20AU0" In the front page it says: "© NISSAN MOTOR CO., LTD. Printed in Japan" From the foreward in the front, I'm pretty sure this was just an 'after the fact' combination print of the separate engine and chassis manuals printed in one. The foreward makes no mention of the chassis segment, and describes the text as a manual for engine maintenance(engine being the first section of the book).

My '72 FSM looks like the first pic, but the cover is a light green(like pistachio pudding)
  19. Yeah because the United States is clearly the only country on earth capable of making decent roadways.

    1) I'm not sure about the others, but I know the figure for Japan is government funds. The $350 million does not include military resources expended carrying out aid work either IIRC. 2) This bothers me as well. I suppose it has something to do with what the media feels obliged to report on. For them, I suppose, carnage in Africa is 'old news' and not worth reporting on and rallying support for.

I have been to this place, they had a few 240zs when I walked through almost a year and a half ago. It is not a place I would want to go during the summer because of the insects, but its alright during the winter.
  22. Looks nice! What kind of paint did you use? I wonder how much it would cost to have a whole valve cover black anodized?
  23. Assuming it fits in the transmission tunnel, I would guess you would need an appropriate custom bell housing, mounts, and driveshaft made.

Interesting, could you post some pictures of your setup Carl? I am wondering how the interior elements look now. Does the vintage air box stick down under the dash less than the stock setup without a/c? The blower sticking down looks rather unsightly IMO I am also curious about the courtesy/MSA kits, but have never found anyone who actually installed one.
  25. A car that has been neglected may not show problems until hundreds or thousands of miles down the road. Never trust everything a seller says about how they cared for a car : of course they wont tell you how they only changed the oil every 10000 miles, or put bondo over rust, or .... etc etc etc. They will usually tell you what YOU want to hear so they can get your money and the car out of their garage. I am not saying all sellers are dishonest, but every day it seems there are fewer honest people in this world. I have been lied to in the past by tons of people trying to sell me their car, as well as the guy who I bought my car from 2 years ago. If you do buy this car, I suggest you make sure to have a decent budget set aside for 'just in case.' The car is, after all, 33 years old. Something will go wrong with it. As often as people praise the reliability of the early Z cars, tons of things still do go wrong with them just because of age, as any old car will have. Nissan engineers hardly designed these cars and their components with a 30+ year service life in mind. Back in the 80s my Dad had an acquaintance who would buy a new car and NEVER change the oil : He would simply top it up whenever it started getting low. He would sell the car to someone later(50-60k miles later) and totally BS them about his maintenance. I recall him getting really outrageously high prices selling his Toyota Previa and Honda Civic. That's downright criminal. This guy was what you would call a "nice guy" otherwise as well... Be wary!
