  2. I've never seen any in Dallas myself, but I've had people send me cameraphone pics of them when they saw around town. I've seen a few in Austin, mainly parked.
  3. The spark plugs are new NGKs, so I will check them and everything else for cracks and voltage leakage, thanks for the hints everyone. If anyone has any additional suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them as well
  4. I'm running some NGK wires that are only a few thousand miles old, but that may be what is going on, or the coil is flaking out. I hooked a timing light up and each cylinder seemed to be showing a consistent firing pattern. Something is shorting someplace I'm guessing, I'm not sure how the condenser and all that works, could a little water have damaged it?
  5. I didn't, but some water may have been blown in through the grille, maybe over top and around the radiator support. I took the dizzy cap off and everything looked fine.
  6. I had a local z mechanic tune my car up last weekend since it was up there anyway from a bad clutch slave cylinder. It was running great at first. I took it to the car wash a few days later (the pay and spray wand type), and on the way back it started to misfire here and there, and now it idles really poorly, 200rpm lower than it did before, and I can sometimes hear a small popping noise when the engine is idling and I am over the engine compartment. It sounds like the pop you get when you touch a doorknob when you have a lot of static electricity built up. Also, when I get out of the car and my feet are on the concrete, I can always touch the body of the car (i.e. the stainless door trim) and get a pretty good static shock the first time after I shut the car off. The static builds up even if I don't move the car. If I turn it on and let the car run for maybe 20 seconds in my parking space and turn it off, it is already charged up and ready to shock me. Has anyone had this before? I checked all the ignition connections I could see and saw nothing out of place. At the moment it is more or less undriveable This really aggrivates me as I had a date setup tonight with a girl I just met

I'm not trying to be a smart alec, just investigating the validity of your test. Compare it to what is called peer review in the scientific community. All I am saying is that cruising at a relatively constant speed is not a comparable driving condition with stop and go traffic around town. My Z gets less than 20mpg around town, but on long trips I will get 26+mpg easily.

Looks good, I just have some questions if you don't mind : Are you running stock suspension? Any rubbing issues? What size tires did you end up getting?

So do you drive your van every day for long stretches on open highway almost exclusively? I don't see how you could make a valid comparison otherwise.

Summary of thread : An attempt at justifying complete idiocy and lawlessness in the face of overwhelming common sense. Anti-speeding guys, I'd give it up. Wisdom cannot be imparted upon someone dead-set on being a fool. A fool is someone who needs to learn from his own mistakes rather than the mistakes of others before him.

There are only a few replies total, so it is not difficult to just read what has been said. "It's The Weekend of October 1st-3rd." Today is the 23rd of September.

It's nice to see there are guys out there setting such good examples for their younger siblings

Oh yeah guys, we all forgot - horrible car crashes NEVER happen out in the country!

Apparently age does in fact mean something.

^- Worst post ever. I like the car though. I am not a huge ZX fan but I am still impressed with the condition it is in.

Texas is the same, junked out 280Zs are fairly plentiful in junkyards compared to 240Zs. I see quite a few 280Zs on the street as well (relatively), but seeing another 240Z is quite a rarity

Yeah, I'm glad I am not a classic mustang enthusiast. Thank goodness Nissan didn't even try. I applaud them for looking forward instead of rehashing old designs because they can't design a good looking original car. I know most people here think the 350Z is an ugly "toad," but the general public disagrees with us.

A dash cracks mainly due to embrittlement when UV rays break up the polymer chains which make up the vinyl, not so much due to temperature changes. The cracks just present themselves when the material strains against itself as it tries to contract as it cools. Since the vinyl wants to shrink faster than the supporting material, it needs to stretch. Since it is brittle now from UV damage, it just cracks instead. A healthy dash skin should not crack just because the temperature goes from 80F to 15F in the space of a few hours. Protect your dash from UV rays first and foremost IMO. Also, some ebay sellers will claim their dash is great and will last forever because they live in a cloudy area. UV rays pass right through cloud cover.

I agree with KDMatt on this one, I am glad the 350z was not a retro-ripoff of the 240z. To me, a retro knockoff, no matter how well done, would still be nothing more than an eyesore to me. I would rather just have a car that is relatively unique in my area. I pity camaro fans that see a car identical to their own at every intersection.
  20. Our local home depots dont carry stuff like that anymore - I've only had luck finding stuff like that at a REAL hardware store, like our local Ace stores. Home Depot around here mostly has drywall, lumber, and nails and noone there is smart enough to confirm/deny they sell anything

Watch out Stephen, the TomoHawk patrol is going to impound your car for that exhaust tip!
  22. I agree Alfa, I've really been wishing BambiKiller would show up again! I'm going to say my bit and bow out, because the idiocy running rampant in this thread just boggles my mind. I may not agree with what someone says or does under the law, but I will always defend their right to engage in whatever that is. If any of you think this is ridiculous, I think you need to go do some research into a little thing called the "Bill of Rights" in that great document called the US Constitution. TomoHawk, I would be curious to hear your opinions on an issue like homosexuality. I think they would be quite entertaining. As has been said before, you are displaying a very narrow minded psyche, which is why so many people are attacking your ideas. Thank goodness you are not in charge of this country. We would all have a dress code and general code of behavior set forth by you, I am sure. I am beginning to think that you are simply making outrageous statements because you are bored and like watching people get agitated on a forum. As for "ricers," I think they have no taste, and are just plain annoying. Sure, some of them engage in a lot of illegal street racing, but you know what? I know more people who aren't "ricers" who constantly engage in juvenile stop-light races or engage in other forms of reckless driving. A boatload of stickers and poor taste is not a prerequisite for bad driving - if it was, life for law enforcers would sure be a hell of a lot simpler. TomoHawk's statement about drivers of domestic muscle cars not being as widely engaged in street racing is utterly retarded. I have had more people in domestics try to race me at a stop light than I have by people in imports. That generalization is completely off-base. Very often their exhausts are just as loud, if not louder than their "ricer" counterparts. Others have wisely pointed out that all the things this new policy targets are ALREADY illegal, and should just be enforced under the laws already in effect almost everywhere in the country. Are "ricers" blasting up and down your street? Even without breaking the speed limit, the charge of "exhibition of speed" is a legitimate thing for a police officer to bust someone for. What I am saying is these things (street racing, drifting, loud exhaust, loud stereo) that irritate and endanger us are already illegal, and the state of California, to my knowledge, already impounds cars from street racers en masse when they are caught engaging in illegal street racing. I remember hearing about several huge busts of street racing rings in Dallas where all the participants that got rounded up had their cars impounded. If these kids (again, a generalization, youth is not a prerequisite for stupidity) are breaking the law, and nothing is being done about it, this is a case of the authorities not being in the right place at the right time - adding new laws, like the ones under discussion here, will change nothing except give the police more pretenses to stop people who may have nothing to do with illegal street racing. I will close in saying that we need to be mindful of history in any case like this. Today, they might basically outlaw "ricing" out cars. What happens tomorrow? Will people we deem more acceptable be targeted next? I'm sure many people in the public wonder why ANYONE would EVER want to modify their car in any way. I'm glad these people don't have the right to tell me what I can and can't do with my own property - freedom of expression is my right as a U.S. citizen. If you don't like this, feel free to move to another country. There is a lot more at stake in discussions such as these than just someones right to put a big tacky sticker on their car. Here is a little something I'd seen before that comes to mind in a case like this:
  23. "Keep America Free"
  24. That's a retarded thing to say, civics might not be what I consider cool, but they make a good reliable daily beataround car.
  25. It's not just "running on 3 cylinders," like a geo metro, you're also wasting power compressing fuel and air that will not produce power in the other 3....
