Man that's great! Congratulations, you deserve it. You have a great hobby that'll last a long time. I have an E31 that's needs to look like your Maxima heads. Maybe one day? Cliff

I've read train service is in high demand again with all the "new" shipping that has gone to s h i t. Everything old is new once again proven. Hang in there Steve.
  3. In my neck of the woods throwout and release means the same thing. And the special washing machine is called a chemical vat at our machine shops. But your's could have been some kind of ultrasonic thing like for transmission parts? How you like me now? Party on Wayne!
  4. I've used Valvoline max life 10w30 for 5 plus years and the cam lobes look nice and shiny. Oil never gets really dark like Castrol 20/50 I ran in my '89 BMW 325is. Good pressure on the gauge too but I use turbo oil pumps.
  5. No clear vin# I could find and a black engine bay? Hemmings maybe stretching the true price on this one. Whups! I made a mistake I think? I can see green but not normal for that low mile car. Sorry...

I've learned, have them tested before you leave. They're about half junk for sure but eventually you'll get a good one.
  7. I can't rember the total weight of the rod and piston assembled but I used the ones that had the same stamped numbers on the cups and rod caps. I chose to grind off a gram or two off the outer longer length of the rods to get them equal. I had the the flywheel resurfaced and balanced by the machinest but bolted up the the clutch kit straight out of the box. It gets close to 7,000rpm and is smooth, no vibration at all. Make sure and have your throwout bearing pressed on from your machinest. I used the old one to drive a new one on my first time and it whines in neutral unengaged. Works great but is annoying to me. Heres something I found on a 2.4 build, good read.
  8. Brake cleaner? That's pretty strong stuff. I like the "low and slow" approach like barbecue.
  9. Like your garage. Tire storage is great! It's cold out so maybe you can spend some time in there? Everybody loves a "rebuild" thread.
  10. I used this on my last SU rebuild and they look great. It's a polishing wad, whatever that means, wipe it on then buff it off.
  11. Here's my biggest time saver for my '77. He's done it all already. Click on "electrical" and also "efi and fuel". Good stuff to read through and even better camera work. Thanks @240260280 https://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/
  12. Yes, the black plastic box on the side of the afm and the other smaller on. The TPS. I would also cover the distributor somehow.

I looked at my '77 and it looks like they hold a heat sheild or maybe an exhaust bracket?

If they're on the side I'd guess they hold the antenna bracket. Hard to tell from your picture. Maybe post one a little farther out?
  16. Old thread that talks about the Arizona pan below. Your's looks like a knock-off of the Kameari pan to me. You might search that?
  17. I raise the front up as high as I can before I start. Ramps are the easiest but sometimes jack stands. I'm a bad leaner when fooling with the SUs. It took me a year or so to figure this out but Imma kinda slow.
  18. Yeah those magnetic fastner holder things were a big help. I got those at Harbor Freight for a couple of bucks each.
  19. I bought some paint dropcloths, runners is what they call the size I bought. When I'm leaning on those tin can fenders I put the hardest carboard in between the dropcloths, sandwich style. I want nice fender protectors but that was cheap for me at the moment. Now I don't need anything since I'm done. Found some pics...

I used plastic paint scrapers. They're cheap so you can get a few sizes. I like Murphy's oil soap. It's a good cleaner and no harmful chemicals. Mix it with super hot water for the best results. I have a plastic coffee container with a lid and microwave it before using. Sponge it on let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes then scrap the greasy goop off.
  21. I did the rapid test at my physician's office this morning and the results were negative. Never have I been so happy to go back to work! Initially I had the PCR test that came back positive so I quarantined for 10 days and had another PCR test. Still detected Covid. Then I talked with my pharmacist and my doctor's PA. They said the PCR would show the slightest amount for up to and even beyond 4 weeks. So the lesson here for me, to get the negative result, was after your symptoms are gone and you've done the 10 day quarantine get the rapid antigen test. The free money days are over for Covid and I have a mortgage plus a Datsun diZease. This turned my world upside down for almost 2 weeks and I was only sick for 48 hours. The dead giveaway for me were the night sweats so pay attention to that and keep your mouth shut. It's hard not to talk about being positive but not something you really want to share, at least for me. People are scared.
  22. I'm learning new stuff. "Faraday cage", "Spinal Tarp" and "land line". I'll google this and be smarter.
  23. There's some good info on here about header flange thickness, straightness and bolting down properly. I have 2 MSA ceramic 6to1 on mine and love them. If I were you and you live in a state without smog testing I'd come up with a plan and do away with the egr stuff since you're basically killing it off anyway. I have a doctor's appointment in the morning and will post up some searches I remember being helpful when I did my '77 while I sit out in my car waiting. Damn covid! I fart in it's general direction but I'll do whatever to protect my family.

EDIT:This stuff is a little more than you need after seeing your car. I think @psdenno has the easiest solution for what you're doing. I used this stuff on the rear deck of a 240 I had a few years ago. It had sat out and the rust was bad. This stuff killed the rust and turned it black. I painted over that with the cars color then found a good 240 with very little rust. Sold the rusty one, kept the better one. I bought mine at a local auto paint supply but you can read about it on amazon. A lot of people like it. I think it has some type of acid mixed in with it. I remeber it had a strong smell. https://www.amazon.com/SEM-69504-Rust-Mort-Quart/dp/B000HI690U/ref=asc_df_B000HI690U/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312105316935&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14786446358275635632&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012728&hvtargid=pla-491175288209&psc=1
  25. It is slow to load on my phone's ISP but normal on my laptop. I just open another tab while I wait. We're not saving lives. Grateful to be included! P.s fyi Do not search Warby Parker eyeglasses.
