Piston Opinion Needed
Your second picture looks like one of the pistons out of a boat motor I locked up. Pieces of the rings gouged holes like that.

Occassional Stuttering Engine - '77 280Z
Here's a good read with plenty of great pictures on our fuel tanks. It got me to drop my tank and seal it with Red-Kote tank liner. I was seeing small rust particles in my clear filter too. I started worrying they could clog up the injectors, probably for no reason but it took that part out of the equation. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuel/gastank/index.htm

Occassional Stuttering Engine - '77 280Z
Does your fuel pressure regulator have a good vacuum hose attached? You could get a loaner vacuum gauge from an auto parts store and see how strong your vacuum is too.

I'd put a fuel gauge on a length of hose and zip-tie it to the driver's side windshield wiper blade so you can watch it while you're driving, sounds like fuel problems to me.

Fuel problem
I paid $250 for the Bosch replacement, wasted money because the that was on it was good. That was before I found this forum. Fastwoman & Z Train got me fixed up.

Shaking, back and forth motion at 1st and 2nd gear
I too think it's possibly in your drivetrain, FWIW. Maybe take it to a transmission shop and have someone drive it?

Fuel problem
I thought for sure the paper in the fuel filter had folded in, sorry. I'm not 100 percent on this but it seems like one of the four fuse able link wires powers the pump. I'm with Fastwoman, straight wire to the post on the pump from the battery. I use speaker wire with alligator clips. Where is Enterprise? Seems like ive been through there going to the beach? Ive got a spare Bosch pump is why I ask. You could go to ZCON in Memphis this July and put that deevorce in the rearview mirror.

Unexpected Surprise
I had my speakers muted yesterday, that laugh makes it even funnier today. Thanks for sharing that.

Anyone have experience with hy-per lube ZINC REPLACEMENT ADDITIVE?
Maybe Jalex from Panama has too much zinc in his engine causing the "shaking, back and forth"? It has the Zinc Shakes.

Unexpected Surprise
That reminds me of the "how to modify" book's little snippet on Turbo Tom Wyatt's 510 being 9 seconds faster than a turbo 930 and 3 seconds ahead of a 427 Cobra at Road Atlanta with an L20 4 cylinder.

Lifting engine & tranny from the side?
That's what I'll do Mr Warner, push it half way outside and come in from the front. If you had to remove tires anyway it'll be the same as what i ran into when I pulled it. That's a very good list you've posted (it's exactly what I did except the hood is in my spare bedroom ) for anyone else that will be removing their motor. I've got a low ceiling down there so my winch idea didn't work, even with a steel bar through 3 floor joist. Thank you though Zed Head. After seeing that Jarvo used the 1 ton from Harbor Fright that's what I'm buying. Thanks again for all the help, y'all are the best!

Lifting engine & tranny from the side?
Could the motor come out from the side without all the hassle? I've got a 3 car garage and the one in the middle is the project stall, so I would have more room from the side. Thanks for the repiles everybody, I'm trying to figure an easier way. I guess I could just try it and see?

Lifting engine & tranny from the side?
I've got a decision to make, buy a 1 ton cherry picker and come at it from the side or buy a larger hoist and come in from the front. I've got limited space for storing the thing I'll use maybe once a year. Do many people do it this way? Thanks for any replies, Cliff

Fuel problem
Take the hose off the bottom of the metal fuel filter behind the radiator on the passengers side. Put it in an empty container and spin the motor over. Gas should come out. Go to a parts store and buy a new filter. If gas doesn't come out let us know. Cliff

Bad Dog Expands to Fiji
That picture is very disturbing. It has nothing to do with Fiji though. I was playing off the name, Bad Dog Cafe. Not too funny looking back over it. Sorry. China has a problem, they kill kids too.

1973 Rebuild
Blasting pots are great if you have a large air compressor. I've got a small 20 lb one that I shoot glass bead and baking soda through with a 60 gallon 12 CFM @90 psi air compressor, I have to quit every 10 minutes and let the compressor cool down and drink a beer or three. Makes one hell of a mess too. I'm buying a cheap igloo shaped tent with a floor so I can get in there and be able to reuse some of the glass beads, 50 lbs cost $32 at Tractor Supply, $42 at Harbor Freight. I couldn't imagine doing a whole car in my garage, it would make a HUGE mess. Have you found Grannynot's rotisserie rebuild thread? It's a good read. here it is, http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/45430-240z-rebuild-restoration-right-down-to-the-shell/ read post #16, $3,600 quote for sandblasting and chemical dip.

1973 Rebuild
I downloaded the '77 FSM and EFI bible on a flash drive, took it to a office supply place and had them print it, hole punch then put them into 3 ring binders. Cost around $50 bucks! I've used it once to get the transmission and differential fluid amounts.
