Is probably what you think when you see this but DAMN what a game it was. Alabama 45, Clemson 40, not enough to too much.
  2. I learned what the term "lapping valves" means the hard way by not having the foresight you have. Carbon builds up on the valve seats and the valves causing them not to seal off, just like you said.

Great talent as you've said. The first time I heard Let's Dance, I heard Stevie Ray Vaughn and was blown away. R.I.P David Bowie R.I.P SRV
  4. Mine was removed by the previous owner and my car ran great, maybe used a longer choke time in the colder months but hardly any choke at all in the warmer months. My understanding of that coolant line through the intake manifold was for extra heat for colder weather, about 2 months here in Alabama, probably never in Panama. There's an active thread going on now about that thermostat but those guys live way up in Canada where it's cold, really cold. For a vacuum test, if you have the right adapter (big) use the brake hose bung.
  5. Are you turning the mixture knobs CLOCKWISE until they are tight, towards the passenger's side? Then turning them COUNTERCLOCKWISE to loosen or lower them 2.5 turns, towards the driver's side, and they are too lean? So then you are turning them another complete turn COUNTERCLOCKWISE, towards the driver's side to richen them? The plug looks good enough to me considering they were black previously. Your number of turns seems to be too rich and I'm trying to understand why. Could you go to a auto parts store and borrow a vacuum gauge to get a reading? That would be useful information whether or not your engine has good vacuum or is worn. 17hgs on the gauge is good, less could be a clue as to your problems. The 2 hoses coming out of the firewall by the battery are being used for your air conditioner's compressor, right? That could only mean the coolant route has been changed, good or bad I don't know but the pictures are a big help. Maybe somebody will see something?
  6. Here's what I did for more air plus keep the critters from storing acorns in my filter box. It pulls a lot of air!

When you make homemade ice cream you put salt on the ice to keep it cold. Why do they put salt on icy roads? We dumb-arse Southerners use sand.
  8. In hindsight, that doesn't surprise me. You're looking to blame someone for your problems. It's covered in the dvd but you call them anyway.

He jumped in with me and we did a quick pub crawl. Great time! Our map was on a napkin, IIRC.
  10. Your float levels maybe off? Shipping empty float chambers cause the floats to bounce freely, bending their tangs. It's explained in the DVD.

And lived to tell about it!
  12. Attalla? I live near Attalla, Alabama! I believe it is an overflow jug. Here's one similar on ebay.com, http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/221690584990?item=221690584990&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466&rmvSB=true
  13. There should be a motorcycle named after them. Learned something new today, back to bed now. Thanks CharlieKwin!
  14. Here it is, http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/53029-could-it-be-a-slipping-clutch/#comment-483646 Good information in there.
  15. From all I've read, I'm about to do the same, you'll need a newer fork and slave cylinder. There's a thread around somewhere we were just talking about, can't find it now. Sorry.
  16. I wonder if he has the cannister type oil sending unit or the smaller one for a "dummy light". I've read people put the smaller ones on from a local parts store and not the right one just because the counter guy says it's the one the computer shows, FWIW. In the picture he posted of his glass fuel filter, it looked brownish red to me. I've got them on both my carbed cars and they are a yellowish green. He may have a rusty tank? Car plus $6,000 chasing gremlins and still not right, mecanico no es bueno.
  17. Knowing that's a datsun parts llc motor helps understand the low psi.
  18. That's what the gauge on my red 240 reads, same as yours. Has it ever been noticeably lower in the past? You could run it without a thermostat. Get another gasket then pop the cover off, no need for the Porsche mechanic.
  19. That looks to be one fantastic separator you have there. Never have I seen one like that. I google it and see about getting one for myself, nothing more important on my type air work. Great info! Thanks!
  20. Great looking work going there. I had one helluva time with my siphon set up at first, moisture from the continuous running compressor. I bought an extra moisture separator that goes before the gun and hung the bucket from the ceiling so it wasn't sucking as much, more or less falling down into the gun. Worked good with coal slag for a rougher finish. FWIW Cliff
  21. I wish he was down the street at the motel, closest to the 240 I'm working on.
  22. I'm trying to stay off those paper thin fenders .
  23. The last time I put an engine with the header already on I removed the steering rod in the engine bay, it was easier going in but a pain getting the rod bolted back up. I want to install the header beforehand. If I have someone push the motor towards the passenger's side on the way down would the header clear the steering rod okay? I'm trying to figure this out so it's as easy as possible without having too many people helping, they make me very nervous.

    Slip resistant ramps are wonderful.
  25. Or a cheap meat thermometer in the coolant. You need some numbers before you go through all that trouble.
