  1. If you ride around on empty you will overheat the pump for sure. I have a stupid nephew that put five dollars worth of gas in his car when it was three dollars a gallon. My sister carried him to work for two weeks after his pump fried.

You're right, nothing weird about it.
  3. You have a hose that runs from the valve cover to the brake booster? Yes, plugs get gas fouled and are no good. I went through 6 a week on my speed boat when I was racing it.
  4. Build a frame and put on a lawnmower gas tank. My Dad had one when I was a kid for a 350 Chevy. Straight headers!
  5. Mine are a little "heavy" feeling when I lift them up with my fingers too, but they work good so I feel that's okay. A stupid question, you do have the nozzles set at 2.5 turns down, counterclockwise from the top. Are the nozzles dropping down when you pull the chokes on? They're not stuck are they? They should twist a little too on the way down. Are you using a mechanical pump or electric?
  6. I bought one from my Nissan dealership, $50 if I remember right. I've got the invoice with the part number and price if you need it. That CLR soaking looks pretty damn good though and much cheaper.
  7. Yes! The smaller side should be in front, I think, and it would look like 11:25 if it's right. At tdc on the compression stroke, the first two cam lobes should look similar to a rabbit's ears or actually mickey mouse's ears.
  8. Was it an empty hole you put the 240 dizzy in on the front cover? I'm asking because the f54 aka zx has a different oriented mounting ear for the zx dizzy. I'm using my phone so I can't show you a picture but you could google images of the difference.
  9. Both my '72s have the elephant, I was just curious about the earlier ones.
  10. Did it come with the elephant cap?
  11. So with Petronix you just change out the guts and use the same distributor. Learned something new today! I put a '79 ZX remanufactured distributor in my #918 240. The #110 still has points. Maybe one day I'll change it over too. I'm thinking I may sale it though, I went nuts and have more Zs than garage doors.
  12. I'm sorry but I know absolutely nothing about Petronix stuff. The OE 240 caps are the smallest, 280s are a little bigger and the ZX is the biggest. They're not interchangeable as far as I know. If you have a Petronix dizzy wouldn't it have it's own specific cap? I know mine are all "keyed" to the distributors with a thick space on one side of the cap so you can't install backwards. Hopefully someone familiar with your ignition can help? Your car looks fantastic by the way. I'm really anxious to hear how that motor runs.
  13. I replaced my fuel sender with a new one from Nissan. After reading on here about the process I realized the arm had to be bent a little. I think the new ones are straighter so they'll fit into the box. Maybe your's needs to bent some? If it's the original one, it may just need a good cleaning where the contact arm sweeps over the wiring. Carburetor cleaner works good. I was able to clean the one on my 280, the 240 had to be replaced, it was frozen from sitting in a cruddy tank full of 10 year old gas.
  14. It's hard to follow but the #1 plug wire looks like it is at the backside of the cap? It should be behind the radiator. You say you had to go one spot clockwise, which would put it at the top.

That's a strange looking chain. Looks like two?
  16. Dad gum! That's a lot of blasting. Your respirator needs it's own respirator.

I never put it in an oven but I can say this, it worked great during the rebuilding. All the oil and assembly lube wiped right off. Through my mistakes I had to pull the head and the front cover off. They got dirty but after a wipe down they look like new again. That's the Eastwood bare metal clear coating. I don't think they'll ever get yellow, just a feeling of mine though. I sandblasted the aluminum and it soaked it up like a sponge, I quit applying it when it would just lay on top so it's penetrated down into the aluminum. Fingers crossed!

    Great progress!
  19. Flashing lights coming out of the woods and smoke are a couple of my reasons. I am constantly looking in the mirrors, you never know when a Mustang or something wants to get a run up on you. If you see one coming, drop down a couple of gears and that's all you'll see of him, in the mirror.
  20. If you decide to straight wire the pump for a pressure reading (I would) speaker wire and alligator clips make it easy. You may not have the OE Bosch pump? And there is a positive and a negative post on them. Here's some up close pictures thanks to Blue. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuelpump/index.html This shows the inlet filter that could be clogged. Those things are very fragile and you'll need tweezers to pull it out for inspection.

I remember him saying he was trying to get the bugs worked out so he could sale it? Seems like I was trying to get him to try a potentiometer. Was it yellow with a black stripe?
  22. No kidding! I've never heard of that. Two feet of sandpaper? WTF
  23. That's probably what all that tape was for, somebody pulled the cylinder head and marked the connections. Just guessing though.
  24. That tape looks like it's to the injectors. Maybe they're new or he cleaned the connectors? or both. I would rather have a 76 than a 78. No smog crap to deal with. Probably has the n42 intake which is desirable. Be happy with your car! I would be. Cliff
  25. I'll guess it's a 75 or 76.
