  1. Thank you Mr Beck. Makes perfect sense now. I've only bought new Exmark mowers, never a brand new car. Maybe someday?
  2. Well I'll be damned. You are absolutely right. Cam numbers and lobe separation are engraved on the sprocket end of mine. Learned something today.

Dye grinder on those same flat spots on the caps.

Those wrist pins don't come out as easy a my boat motors did. Deep socket and a short sledge hammer would drive them out but not these Datsuns.

    Tabco. https://tabcoparts.com/1234-41577.html
  6. We call them "shake and bake" around here and that isn't good but maybe they do better work in Redondo Beach.

Finally back working on the motor. I hate colds and cold weather. Weighed my pistons today and the lightest is 384.5 grams which happens to be #1. Number two weighs the most, 390.7g. I'll get them all the same tomorrow. I noticed how Nissan balanced them, ground a flat spot on the rod cap, so I'll do the same. These are different from another set of 2.4s. They're lighter and have smaller rod bolts. In the picture you can see the 6 I'm using and one off to the right that's from a different motor. Also have the rear main seal from Nissan's part number and price, $31 out the door, but I'll have to reuse my nails. Anyway glad to be greasy again, times a wastin'.
  8. Mine sat for 6 years with a half tank of fuel and here's what I found after dropping the tank. I had to walk home a few times before I figured it out.
  9. Or the battery. I cannot believe how the steering wheel looks. You should put a clear fuel filter right out of the tank. Fram G2 worked best for mine. Fantastic find. I'm sorry. I forgot you have awakening the beast thread. You know what to do.
  10. I just noticed it has the shipping hooks attached to the rear bumper mounts. Mine had those too and I thought they were tow hooks but they're not. So if you ever have to pull it backwards don't use those.
  11. $4,106 plus $75 dealer prep for a grand total of $4,181. It doesn't mention the spoilers or the A/C. Maybe another shop did that work? I wonder why for "Model" both say "296"?
  12. Did it run any better before the ZX distributor swap?
  13. The price of mine was $4,151 in 1972, with air installed. My Dad said he bought a brand new Camaro in '72 for $2,800. He looked at a Corvette but said it was $5,000 plus.
  14. Great looking car.

Have you adjusted the threaded rod at the top of the pedal? When I bought mine the clutch was worn and I adjusted that to get more pedal. Maybe yours has been done too and now with the new clutch it needs readjusting? I also ran the rod out on the slave cylinder.
  16. That's hillarious Blue! If sarcasm melted snow... ::
  17. Do tell more, please. I've put the larger 280 radiator and a full ZX shroud on mine, but's that's all.
  18. We've got a small herd of unicorns in this thread. I have one on my work table right now being polished.
  19. ZX pistons have a weight code stamped into them, keeping them in order helps internal balance. In my opinion but I'm no "guru".

That's against common business sense. How old is Mr Rebello? Does he have all the money he's worked for? Chunked Hazmatts OE block without making contact. That's nuts.
  21. Congratulations! They're easier than you thought aren't they?

    Was the window open?
  23. So I'm going to meet "old blue" too? Can hardly wait. If I can't get my 240 broken in to my liking I'll be in my '77 also.

Fastwoman is right, keep the heat shields in my opinion too. Just a couple of days ago someone said their PCV hose got turned to toast after removing them. Also they keep heat off the plastic reservoirs for your brakes and clutch fluid, can't remember the thread. Maybe it's the "Hot Start Issues, who has them who doesn't". I think it's S30Driver who mentioned it.
