We all get caught up in the moment and make mistakes but if you're helping someone, who cares. For me, it's mostly alcohol related. I think I'll put the Edited Box in my signature.

Maybe you can get it running and the brake drums will free up. Mine did. I got mine running off a small gas can after it had sat for years. The gas tank was full of crud. Good luck and happy wrenching on your old friend. Cliff
  3. He could have the "sticky pedal" issue my red 240 has. I haven't fixed it yet so I can't offer any advice other than what I've read about a cable being used instead of the rod. EDIT: "Sticky Throttle Linkage"

WYSIWYG? Never seen that before. What You See Is What You Get, had to google that. Learned something new today, after editing.
  5. While my engine is out I'm cleaning up the bay. I'm worried about the rusty hardlines directly under the battery, the only section. Has anyone dealt with this before? I've found a pre-bent line from classictube.com for $255 but would be happy with more options. Thanks in advance for any replies of similar experiences. Cliff
  6. Makes me want a Carl's Jr burger.
  7. When you get the gauge, you may try a "T" fitting with a 3' or 4' section of fuel line to your driver's side wiper blade. Zip-tie the gauge to it then go for a drive. EDIT: Have you blown out all the fuel lines? If the tank has been cleaned the lines may not have been. I don't know if it could cause your problem but there's a fuel vent line manifold below the coil. 4 rubber hoses, one from the tank for venting, two to the air cleaner housing and one more to the PCV tube below the front carb. Just some thoughts.

Who complained about people editing post hours later without it showing that it had been edited? Mike responded with that banner.
  9. I don't know, what is it? If it's "Bring a Trailer" then no, I'm a buyer/hoarder of Z stuff as long as I can afford to. Someday my heirs might be but they've been instructed to post here 1st. I've added my username and password to my will, with a stapler not an attorney.

Schneider's name and formula numbers, #2 break-in additive, #3 oil additive after 500 mile oil change. http://schneidercams.com/engineadditives.aspx
  11. Like a "slow" kid at a petting zoo, it pulled a lot of tail.

It's the cut I'm pretty sure. There's no kind of coating on mine, yet! It came with the paste and a bottle of ZDDP. It did come in an oily bag though.
  13. Here's a step by step with a lot of pictures for a 280 tank removal, http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuel/gastank/index.htm 240s are a little harder because of all the evaporation tank lines. I replaced everything though so I just cut them at the tank and got it out of the way. Spray the straps bolts and all the hose clamps the day before. 50/50 ATF and acetone in a trigger spray bottle works better than anything I've ever used and for the price you'll get a lifetime supply, at least for me. 1 quart transmission fluid, 1 quart acetone is less than $15.

I'd swear you could strike a match off one of the lobes on the Schneider cam I just bought. The Delta resurfaced rockers were a little smoother though.
  15. The air cooled 911SC I had held 13 quarts if I remember correctly, so for my broke a$$ not too often. I didn't drive it that much anyway, it was my "bar car".

I use Valvoline VR1 20/50, it has the zinc without having to add any extra. Purolator Pure One #30001 oil filter.

That is cool! They got it right, down to the rust. Are you still snowed in? Cabin fever? Am I gonna have to take out a communication facility in Atlanta? Is Nortel still in business?

Here's the colors,http://www.zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/ Great car. Here's some very helpful information for FI 280s, http://atlanticz.ca/index.php/tech-tips.html
  19. Used to??? They still do! That hole is big enough for a baseball.
  20. Thank you for the great write up, I now have a step by step.
  21. I've always read 3.5 lbs of pressure with a mechanical pump. You should put a clear filter coming out of the tank and check it for debris from the tank. A Fram G-2 worked best for me and they're cheap. One of mine did the same thing when I first bought it. I could pull the supply side off the filter on the passenger's side and blow into it and clear it out enough to get home. Did you keep the filters on the banjo bolts at the carbs? Is it as bad when the tank is full? Here's what was in mine when I cleaned out the tank, it's not rust, just crud. I think a kid must have dropped a couple of handfuls of dirt down the fill hole in it's past life.

You mentioned shiny not holding oil. When I got my rockers and cam reground I noticed a mildly rougher finish on both. Now I know why. They will smooth themselves together.
  23. "Garden Room" keeps the missus happy.
  24. I have 3 E88s and an E31, no paint on any of them. They're all yellow plated like this picture, but 40 plus years old.
  25. Good news. You'll get plenty of help here.
