It could be worse. The Wagon Queen Family Truckster My Dad gave me a car when I turned 16, took the keys every time I did something he didn't agree with. I bought my 1st car when I was 17, he drove the car he bought for me. It was like new, I did a lot of stuff he didn't agree with.
  2. Thank you. I think I'll install it loosely touching so it can't twist too much.

I've read a lot about air bags causing severe harm to the face from the chemicals used for the explosion. I think they are overrated too. Good seatbelts! Ooh ooh, early 90's 300ZX twin turbo would be fun.
  4. Great read here. I'm about to put my steering rack back in and there's a shiny (worn) spot on my crossmember from the rubber bumper. I was thinking it rested on the crossmember but after reading this I'm thinkinking it shouldn't, 4mm space. Anybody know for sure? thanks, Cliff

Squirt hole on the right, numbers on the left, reading without my beerfocals.
  6. I don't know about Texas but you can throw a rock in Alabama and hit a deer. The last time I went I fell asleep.

I went back and got the Clevite 77s for the rod cap bearings too. Made in Japan is better than Made in Mexico IMHO. Sealed Power bearings are made in Mexico. Yard Bird Man (Chicken Man) thank you, that was a good call on the tri-metal. Appreciate that!
  8. Newer number for those yoke washers, 14037-N3600. I ordered 6 from local dealership using the 14037-32200 number and it kicked it back saying "canceled". Found the newer number and will be here Friday. Thanks for posting that chart, it helped me out a lot. Cliff

Question on 2.4 pistons. They don't have the notch indicating the front but there is an F on one side. Monroe says the stamped numbers on the rod and cap that keep them matched up should be on the oil filter side. That don't jive with my notes nor the F on the pistons. Can anybody help me to determine the fronts? If I go by that F it would put the matching numbers on the flat part of the rods and caps on the manifold side and thats how I wrote it down back in the spring when I tore it down. I have to quit drinking and wrenching.

The set I got has the right block side, they put in an extra wider cap bearing. Luckily the one and only foreign car parts had a set of Clevites on hand. I ran downtown and got them just before he closed. I had no idea they are the same, '70 through '83. Luck was my lady today! Thanks for the replies guys. Y'all are the best. Cliff

We may be long lost brothers! Motorcycles have ruined any hopes of growing old without being in pain. It gets worse every year. But boy were they fun!

I'm putting the mains in and while installing realized something was wrong but I don't know how important it is. I have Sealed Power bearings and I have 3 narrow .949" and 3 larger 1.27" but that's not right. I should have 4 narrows and 2 larger ones. Should I stop and get another set or move on and have one that's oversized? Will the bigger one catch on the camshaft? I guess I should check that right now, just thought of it. Thanks, Cliff

I'd say the extra length with the back seats helps from rear end crashes and that looong hood helps from front the end. I had a bad wreck in a '76 back in the late eighties, sitting so low in the car kept me from getting hurt. The steering wheel folded in though and that made my wrist sore but I didn't get anywhere near the front glass. A lady pulled out in front of me and I hit her HARD, the long front end saved me. Good brakes and seatbelts in these cars. Good luck with your convincing.

  19. Great news Jai, happy for you. Yes you should start a new thread, this one is loooooong. Look for "Forums" on the left side under "Navigation" click Forums, then click "1st generation", then you'll see "Subforums". Click the one that pertains to your query then you'll see 'Start new Topic" towards the top on the far right. That's it. You do know the trick for getting to the last post, right? Under the last poster's username there's the day and time, click on that and it'll send you right to the end. It took me a year on here before I figured that out.

  22. Beware of mouthy auto parts guys, they know everything. You need someone to say how good the Advance worker is at painting. It sounds like the Advance worker is telling you how good the body shop guy is. Be careful with that insurance check, people want it already.
  23. Same here, different layout but the info's still the same and is working fine for me. FWIW

Bad news Palmetto bug. It must have gotten thrown out during a spring clean up. I think I remember telling the guy at the recycle place it was off a 40 something year old car. Sorry, I kept it for a few years and got crazy one day and threw a bunch of stuff in my truck and hauled it off. Here's all I have, 240mm 225mm and aluminum 225mm.

Okay I'm aware of my mistakes now. Left is off my 72 I'm rebuilding now Right is off a ZX motor I tore apart. I hope that round thing with the starter gear around it is in my storage building. I'm working this a.m and hadn't looked yet. Also thinking back the auto has a half of a separating plate, no?
