  1. Selling price was straight from the horses mouth so to speak!
  2. Sorry, this is just one of my pet peeves. Are you sure we are talking the same #004? The number 4 I am thinking about was restored to factory (or better) condition baci in the late 80's and was reportedly sold around 2001 for AUS$35k!! It simply didnt need anything but a nice warm spot to park. Joseph
  3. Who now owns 004? Members on this list have been trying to find its whereabouts for some time now? Regards Joseph
  4. Datto-Zed Have you seen the prices these t's are going for on ebay?? Ballpark AUS$50! Joseph
  5. Total BS mate! If it was a LHD car it would be a 69. Note that RHD VIN#004 was a 70 model; how the heck could yours be a 69.
  6. Do you have documentation to back up your claim of the 1969 status of this car.

Hey Kats Thanks for the information re keeping the newly cleaned parts shiny. The hose clamps you have on the hoses that run over the top of the carb chambers are interesting, are these original or have you just installed them for looks? Regards Joseph
  8. Hey All Im currently going over the engine bay trying to get it back to as original as possible. In my quest I have noticed that the inlet and exhaust manifolds have been removed before and reattached with incorrect type bolts. Close inspection revealed what I think to be an original bolt remaining in the forward most hole under the thermostat housing. This bolt is a Nissan spec bolt, the head is stamped with a 4 and it has a single lock washer and a single, oversize plain washer. I am yet to remove it so dont know if the washers are integral with the bolts. I thought that "7" spec bolts would be more appropriate for this application, but the car is an early car (believed 09/71, Australian spec, A type tranny etc), so I thought that maybe the early cars had the "4" spec bolt whereas the later cars had the "7" spec bolt. Is anyone able to fill me in on what is correct? Would anyone have a Nissan part number available for the bolts and washers etc? Id also like to know how many bolts I need and how many studs I need and the location of each as the parts book seems to be a little confusing in this regard. Thanks for any help. Regards Joseph

Are they rubber or are they plastic? The ebay auction mentioned above refers to them as rubber in the title but they look plastic to me. Mine seem to be hard which would indicate plastic. I suppose it could indicate extremely weathered rubber. Joseph

Kats How do you get the clamps to maintain their appearance after cleaning them with a wire type brush? Every nut and bolt that I clean up with a brush is tarnished a few days later! Regards Joseph
  11. OK Alan, I feel compelled to reply. Yes, I did misread your post; cant really see why you are lumping the entire 2 seater line (ie 240z and 260z) in together and then comparing them to the 2+2. Anyway, I misread this part. I have posted here many times in the past advocating the preservation of the 2+2 as I believe, as by the sounds of it you also do, that one day there wont be many left in circulation at all, most being parted out and eventually scrapped. I am kicking myself for selling my 260z 2+2 about 5 years ago when I purchased my 240z; I should have kept it. It was BONE stock and would have made a great example with a refresh. To say that you will have only one of two in existenance, although tounge-in-cheek (assumed) is a little strange. I know many 2+2 owners and have seen amny examples in good condition; lets hope they stay this way. Regards Joseph

Hey All Wonder if Mike at Banzai is reading this message board discussion and the cogs are turning over. Maybe if enough people line up for them it may be an option for a remake by Mike. Wonder what Nissan did for the rebuild program several years ago?
  13. 2 seater numbers same as 2+2 numbers into Australia; dont think so! 1st Generation Z Car Production http://www.cybersanford.net/DATSUNZCARS.html Regards Joseph Gauci

There is a pair on ebay now. Joseph
  15. The diamond pattern vinyl is different between the 240z and the 260z (early) model. 240z has a larger diamond shape. Joseph
  16. Hey Lee Thanks for the clarification. Just re-read your initial post and realised that you describe the car with the z logo on the belt buckles as a 70 you use to own. Please let us know what you are able to find out re your friends cars. Do your belts secure with the aid of a magnet? I have two sets and both secure with the aid of a magnet on the latch. Maybe there are two styles of belts out there? Again, offer to swap belts is still out there! Regards Joseph
  17. Reading back through Lee's initial post I realise that the car he had the Z typr buckles in was an early one. Everyone I know (and all posters so far) have cars dated 72 onwards. It would be interesting to know if someone out there in Australia has a car dated 70 or 71 and it has the Kagnol belts fitted or ones with a Z on the buckle. Mine is a 71 but the belts have been replaced with newer type non-inertia reel ones. If anyone out there does have a set with the z on the buckle and wants to trade them for mine which are in great condition please let me know. Regards Joseph
  18. Hey Lee No problems, glad to help out. 26th, I think you have hit the nail on the head! The ones seen in my photo are push button type. Man, you should see the Kagnol ones they put in to replace the original factory ones. The belt fastens using a magnet! How is this safer than the ones Nissan put in?? Regards Joseph

Hey Kats Yes, the braided fuel line is available from Rare Spares here in Australia. Price for 7.5mm ID x 12.5mm OD is AUS$12.45 / metre including GST. It would look nice in the engine bay even though it is a little dark, but only if you had a full compliment of braided type hoses (as you do, including the radiator hoses). Ill just go for the plain rubber as I dont have the braided radiator hoses; might get a little busy looking having 3 types of hoses in the engine bay rather than 2! Kats, exceptional website BTW!! Regards Joseph
  20. This is a picture of the belts that I have installed in my Datsun 1000.
  21. Lee Your comments regarding original specification seatbelts for the Australian market 240z are very interesting. I did a fair bit of digging around when I first got my car in regards to the seatbelts and what was original and what was correct and was advised that the original seatbelts as supplied in the car from the factory were removed from the car when it landed in Australia prior to being sent to the dealership and replaced. It is my belief that the Australian authorities at the time deemed them unsafe as they required to many movements to secure and take off. They were replaced with belts made by a company in South Australia, Kagnol. It would be interesting to know if your belts were made in Japan or made in Australia. I have a set of non-retractable belts in my 69 Datsun 1000 that have nice Datsun logos on the buckles. Closer inspection of the manufacturers tag revelas that they were made in Australia. I have two sets of the original replacement Kagnol ones and know of a few other people that have them installed in their cars and are of the belief that they are "original" specification. Maybe your old car slipped through the cracks? Regards Joseph

Hey Kats Something you may be interested in. I have recently come across cloth braided fuel line hose here in Australia. Although a little darker than the other braided engine bay hoses, it looks pretty good. Will upload photos for you to see. Regards Joseph

Hey Andrew As Kats mentioned above, the main problem is finding the correct hose clamps for the fuel lines as they are different construction/look than the standard clamps. I have been hunting around yards for some time now and believe that the special fuel line clamps were confined to cars built around the 240z period. I have one only on my 69 1000 which I will use on the 240z. I have seen 120y's etc built around mid 70's with the standard clamps installed on the fuel lines and they are of different construction. FWIW, out of interest I priced the fuel line clamps from my local Nissan a few months back. They wanted AUS$17 a piece for them (ex. GST)! Regards Joseph
