ZG flair copy's in Australia
Hey Z Kid Man, you and I have been through this discussion before. At the end of the day we both agreed on the same thing, mod to save rather than for mods sake. Regards Joseph

1971 Hub Caps
I believe that the change from the D style to the Z style would have "officially" occured in 09/71. Notice that the word official is in quote marks! Regards Joseph

Alternator bracket, correct color
Plain/flat washers from the factory arent yellow-zinc plated, they come flat silver. All other bolts and lock/spring washers and nuts are yellow-zinc plated. Regards Joseph

Silver strip on door
I re-did mine years ago with aluminium tape that I purchased from a boating supply store. It was a little tricky to cut but I am happy with the results and it has held up well for years now. I even managed to match the messy ends like Nissan; more by accident I think! Regards Joseph

Manifold studs
Hey Victor Yeah, I noticed that. We must have been typing our responses at the same time! Lucky we came out with the same outcome, albeit a guess on my part! Joseph

Manifold studs
Ease of installation/removal I would guess. I assume that having some fixing points that are totally removable would make this easier. Just a guess. Interesting to note that the parts book calls up the part numbers for the studs only, and doesnt even mention the bolts. Joseph

Manifold studs
Thanks Carl What about the two attachments on either extremity, one that is common with the bracket that holds the heater by pass hose and the one on the other end under the thermostat housing. These are neither an upper row or a lower row, more a mid level row. Able to help out? Thanks Joseph

Manifold studs
Hey Ed Yes, this is BRILLIANT information, thanks for the reply. Mine are stamped the same and initially I thought that they wernt original. I then got into rebuilding the transmission and was interested to discover that the bolts that secure the casings together have the same stampings. Initially I was a little sceptical but checked out three other trannies and the bolts were all marked the same. OK, next question is where are the bolts and where are the studs/nuts? Thanks again for the reply and the info. Regards Joseph

Manifold studs
Hey All This thread ties in to a thread I started a while back regarding the correct mounting for the manifolds...I got NO replies. Could someone that has the original bolts in a 70/71 240z intake manifold on the upper attachment points please let me know the head stampings on them. I am trying to ascertain whether the bolts I have in there are correct or not (I know for a fact a few have been changed). Thanks Joseph

Original Engine Bay Wiring Details (Photos Helpful)
Hey Mr C Personal thanks for posting the pics for me as requested. They basically confirm my understanding of the areas in question apart from the starter motor wiring, this looks like it may have been changed at some stage (yellow clip doesnt look right). Thanks again, this info is helpful. Regards Joseph

Original Engine Bay Wiring Details (Photos Helpful)
Hello In my ever-increasing frustrations to restore my car to as original condition as I can possible get it I am currently going through the engine bay wiring admiring all of the chopped off wires and aftermarket connectors (seriously, its not all that bad). Id like to ask if it would be possible to supply photographs of the following areas: 1. Wiring at the starter motor. 2. Wiring from the main engine harness to the starter motor. 3. Rear of alternator. 4. Wiring from the main engine harness to the alternator. 5. Wiring from the engine harness to the oil pressure switch. 6. Connection onto the oil pressure switch. Please note I am after original/correct details in each case. If you think you can help out with any or all photos of the areas requested please post replies to this forum thread or PM me off list and we will work out how you can send them through. Thanks for any help. Regards Joseph

Z original tools?
Hey All I have a complete tool kit that came standard with the 260z model complete in the bag with the checklist printed in both english and japanese markings to describe the tools. If you would like I will arrange a scan of the checklist and post it to the site. The 240z came with the standard wheel changing necessities as the tool kit whereas the 260z had screw drivers, pliers, spanners etc. Regards Joseph

Decal preservation
Apart from studying cars that have been restored by knowledgable people, no, none that I know of. The brake vac decal can be seen in a thread recently started by Kats regarding manufacturers names for the z car. Regards Joseph

Decal preservation
Wick Humble manages to pull this operation off in his book/resto with what he describes as "repeated maskings". When is Wick going to sign up on this message board ;> Does anyone know a source for these decals? Joseph

Philosophical discusion on build dates
To HKSZ FWIW, my car is a 1971 model and it also doesnt have the ADR compliance plates fitted. I think in the early days there fitment was a little fickle, especially on a state-by-state basis. My car was initially sold new in Tassie...no further comment ;> Regards Joseph

Philosophical discusion on build dates
HS I think we are talking different things here, and I apologies for that. I am talking about the first car bought into Australia, not the first, or earliest RHD car made. I was under the belief that 004 RHD made it to Australia in 1970 and was the roadtest car used by Aussie scribes at the time. Mr C reports that 003 RHD made it to Australia in 1971. Sure it MAY have been made first, Im not discounting that...buy 004 was here BEFORE 003. BTW, Aussie cars DID NOT!!!! get the door data tags. Joseph

Philosophical discusion on build dates
Mr C OK well this makes a big difference. Looks like RHD#003 was a Japanese home market car and it was privately imported into Australia at a later date. Looks like RHD#004 is still the earliest car into Australia that was destined specifically for this market. Do you blame me for being sceptical!! Joseph

Philosophical discusion on build dates
Mr C Do you have anything to back up the reported RHD car number 003. I (and many others) thought that RHD #004 was the first bought into Australia in 1970. This is interesting. Is there any pics of the car anywhere?? Thanks for any reply Joseph
