280 heater box in a 240?Has anyone
Thanks zKars, Since I started this thread.I got my 280 heater box out, its a 75, and did some test fitting in my parts car. The 280 box bolts through the fire wall in the same location as the 240 heat box. But the 240 box has welded nut mounts on the firewall. Using the nut mounts for a guide, I drilled 2 holes in the firewall, then cut off the welded nuts, re- drilled the holes to fit the studs on the 280 box. Change the plumping to fit the 240 firewall, use 240 parts to center vent, should be good.

Have you thought about cleaning and oiling your clock your self? I did mine from instructions on this site, sorry I'm not very good with a computer to give proper credit to the person who posted it. I did mine and it works great.

72 and 73 body differances
Thanks Guys, I'll cut the slave bracket from the 72 and weld to the 73. My 73 is a bare bones body that came with few extra parts, so 72 dash =no harness problem I hope! I have not checked the brake master clutch spacing yet but will soon. Bumper brackets I knew were different, I have one from. the 73. I think I'll also weld in the smaller 72 harness fire wall hole. Thanks again, John

72 and 73 body differances
Hello everyone, I have a 73 body and a 72 parts car. After removing the engine and trans from the 72,I found that the bell-crank pivot is about 3/4 of an inch shorter in the 73 will a 73 bell-crank work? Also the hole in the fire wall is larger on the 73, and no mount for the clutch slave plumping. Any other changes that I may need to know? Thanks, John

The Bad News: RUST - VIDEO
If the price is right you would have a good parts car. IMO you will never catch up with the rust.

let the body work begin
my friend Mitch stopped by today to check out my z body that I picked up in Dallas. Mitch is a life long body man, he was impressed with the condition of the body. No need to take it to his shop. I can do it all in mine. got a list of supply's,and after waiting a year and a half I begin.http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/images/smilies/happy.gif

I bought a southwest roller,[complete body and suspension] last year, near Dallas for $250. worth the trip to have something solid to work with.

You can rap up a few grand in floors and rail alone. I live in Michigan where the summers are humid and the winters are salty. I have a local 240 that is stock and complete to the warranty in the glove box, but the rust is out of control. If you a solid Z fly Southwest young man!

Door jam I.D. plate
Hi everyone, My 72 at some point had the rear quarters replaced, and the build tag left off. I'm wondering what the build date might be. The Z was sold from Gilmore Cadillac, Pontiac. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on Sept. 27, 1972. Serial #87265, engine#L24-109944 If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful. Also can I get a new Tag? Thanks, John

Why you wear seat belts.
Back in the 80's I saw film with two identical cars were crashed into a wall at a set speed. The first with crash dummies, with no belts. The dummies went through the windshield. The next test was with people in the car, with belts. They just walked away. I've worn a seat belt ever since.

Yes, RUN! I'm also from the rust belt, S.W. Michigan. IMO you would be chasing rust forever and ever and 80 days. I bought a72 for $100 that the P O had replaced the 1/4 panels, fenders and drivers side floor. And it's still so rusty I would not drive it out of the driveway.

going to the poor house
take your time getting your Z on the road. Make sure its road ready, and IMO 16 and a car like this is dangerous.
