Restoration of my 72 240Z
That looks pretty good

This is what happens when you don't take care of the rust
What a mess! Even as a parts car, many of the parts will be unusable due to rust. I doubt there is a good piece of sheet metal on the whole car.

HLS30-00304 Up For Auction on eBay
Will be interesting to see how high that goes. 10k with 3 days to go. Does it make $40k? Needs some cosmetics but supposedly minimal rust. Would bring more if it was the original color, especially if it was original paint.

If the check valves move and seal then the pump should work. They can have a difficult time pumping air to prime themselves though. I like to prime the engine to get it to fire over which helps prime the pump

71 240z, Albuquerque
That's a nice clean looking Z for a decent price. I would expect minimal rust on a car like that from the South West but I would still want some pics first.

240z floor pan replacement question
Yes, or you can smear a coat of tiger hair fiberglass to seal the pinholes and smooth it up, don't use bondo. As long as the welds are solid and look good, you should be fine. Weld in short little sections and take lots of time between sets, to reduce warpage. You should consider a good respirator for under your welding hood. Some of that stuff isn't good for you when it burns!

Best place to find a Z?
That's true for what I know of it. I just browse through every so often. I know what's new and what's old

240z floor pan replacement question
Grannyknot has good advise, but I would suggest butt welding them in. If you have a good gas shielded welder (plenty of Duty Cycle), half the battle is getting it set up properly. You will have it figured out long before you get part way around a panel. If you practice a little first, I think you'll be ok. You can always post some pictures of your first spot welds and we can help you get dialed in.

Panch kit
Maybe as a race car. Easy to repair and no original sheet metal to bend. Just order more panels when you find yourself sitting a pile of splinters?

Yes, look at the check valves. They can stick closed or open and can get gunk in them, holding them open.

Interested in a slightly used 280zx ready to race???
Interesting, it has stock pedals and rubber pads, but the brake pedal looks to be from an automatic car. I wonder if that was to facilitate some heel - toe work?

Wanted: 5 speed trans for my '73 240Z
I am trying to document it so it can be found in the future when I or someone else needs one. Lot's of Toyota gears out there...

Searchtempest.com will do the same thing and has distances so you can customize it. The $1,500 car looks like a scam. I have a hard time believing it was legit unless someone laid eyes on it.

An impact driver would have just turned it off quicker. The steel bolts corrode into the aluminum badly and can be bear impossible to get out, even with heat. A good Tap & Die set is a must. I chase most fasteners if I can't assemble them by hand.

Two questions before I shoot the color
What single stage are you using? Metal flake or solid? What is the final color? Jeff's videos are really good. I would paint the under sides of the panels and let them flash around the edges and dry for a couple of days. Then prep the top of the panel and sand back to the edge. Then mask off the back side or the overspray will make it rough feeling. If you are shooting a flake paint, you will need to paint the car assembled the way Jeff is doing it or the panels will look like different colors when the flake orients in different directions. You may need to let the panels dry for a week if the paint cures slowly. I have turned over panels after a couple of days before and had them stick to the stand, which is really frustrating! Have you shot some paint on a test card yet? The paint will look different over different base colors.

So you used a Toyota gear to repair your Datsun 5 speed? What was the Toyota gear from? Part number?

triple Webers linkage ( or convert to throttle linkage ? )
I don't really ever use the super heavy duty loctites for anything. If I want it permanent, I do it another way. For a lokar cable, you can reuse the factory pedal
-
triple Webers linkage ( or convert to throttle linkage ? )
It's got a good bit of angle to it and it seems like the hook could bind because of that. The longer linkage shaft wouldn't be as susceptible to binding. The offset distance is the same long shaft or short shaft but the angle is worse on the short shaft.

triple Webers linkage ( or convert to throttle linkage ? )
I wonder if that shaft is binding in the mounts because it is so short?

Storing Emrty Fuel Tank
