  1. It's just as well your front supports extend upward. The balance point for the car is on that side of the bolt holes if I remember correctly

I think I would lean towards the new carbs. They look to have had some more refinement. The domes will have zero wear which rebuilt won't. Choke mechanism looks to have been updated. Warranty would be a good question
  3. Also this repair would be easier if you remove the doubler plate so you are not fighting the boxed section. You could remove the whole thing or just cut it far enough back to be past the damage. Then remove that portion. Then you can dolly both pieces inside and out. Weld back in with a butt seam and smooth them out. Also like Namerow suggested you could hold the car down closer to the front to reduce the stress on the frame rail. You could go on Ebay and order some frame clamps. I have an assortment that I use with come-alongs or chain binders for lighter damage work
  4. I suspect Dutchzcar is right. He sprayed it outside in the sun and the paint couldn't lay out. I agree, take it to a shop that can color match it. Spray it early in the day and in the shade. Be sure and degrease it really good
  5. Timing might determine smoothness but Zed is right. You're very likely getting too much air. The place to start it to remove the linkage from the pedal to see if the blades can close some more
  6. Does your work area have a concrete floor? If so you could bolt the jig to the floor and use a hydraulic bottle jack under the lever. Then hammer and dolly
  7. Keep in mind that all of the repair work in this area needs to be done on the jig, not on the rotisserie. The lever idea might work really well if the radiator support was out of the way. Put some force on the lever and then dolly the crumpled area behind the radiator support. Does anyone know if the radiator support is plumb in the car or square (90d) to the frame rail?
  8. The interior appears to have custom door panels and stitched tunnel vinyl, but they removed all the heater controls?? Really? The car has some nice mods Zstory exhaust, triples - says Mikuni, 5 spd etc

Also even some of the new mechanical fuel pumps can be bad right out of the box
  10. So first thing, do not overtighten any mixture screws in a Weber carb!! You can damage the seats in the carb... The white smoke coming out of the carb might be atomized fuel Remove the any linkage from the gas pedal and see if the butterflies will close any more. Also an small inline fuel pressure gage can be very helpful Do these carbs have any electrical solenoids on them? I believe some of these carbs had anti dieseling solenoids on them
  11. So what are your plans? This will be hard for me to explain but I will try. Ok, the holes aren't level. So either the front hole has to move up or the back hole has to move down. The material above the holes appears fairly smooth, so where does the extra metal come from to move a hole down? Or where does the extra metal go to move the hole up? Now one possiblity Is the wrinkling behind the radiator support if smoothed would allow the bottom of the radiator suppprt to move forward. This would allow the whole triangle of the head light bucket to pivot making the bolt holes more level. Does anyone know if the radiator support is supposed to be plumb in the chassis? Ryan was your radiator support removed or replaced?

I'm not surprised it didn't come cleaner. The chemicals get less and less aggressive every year

Has the fuel tank been lined or restored? Sometimes tank liner can block up the lines. I would take a little piece of SS aircraft cable and route it into the tank line to make sure it's clear. I have even chucked long pieces up in a cordless drill for stopped up hardlines
  18. I would drive as far as it took to get the car I wanted, but I like to drive. Not a huge fan of planes either but we have had people from the forum fly in to look at cars and then drive them home. I prefer to trailer an unkown to me car. Ask for a couple of days off. Maybe a Friday and Monday. That gives you 4 days. Where in Ohio? My daughter is in Columbus
  19. In todays market, if you find a decent car for a reasonable price you have to move on it. Go see it, give a deposit, something...
