Yes, that is correct. After clearancing the thrust bearing I could turn the complete short block by hand Thanks Chas

Yes, with a gasket. The original shim was .335 mm but we checked and believe we need .072 mm currently. Using the .335 mm shim locks the tranny up

We trim the brass shim down and retorqued the nut and staked it. We use a driveshaft to help hold the shaft from turning while torquing. We checked the front cover clearance. The shim we have is 14 thousands thick. We checked the clearance with plasti gauge first It says we need about 2-3 thousands. We put the existing shim back in out of curiosity and the transmission wouldn't turn by hand. Took it back out and it turns free. I want to recheck with plasti gage and see if the gap is still the same... But it is moving forward...

So the verdict on the new gun... I like the way it paints but with the air cap I am currently using, I have a lot of over spray. I can fog the booth up in a hurry. I think I may have an HVLP air cap too. I will have to look. It does lay down clear really nice though. Big wide fan and if I'm careful; I have very minimal orange peel. Overall, I really like it, except for the amount of paint I waste in the air. My existing gun won't pattern as wide as this new one. Which makes getting even coats and avoiding striping easier

Cody and I went to EMcCallum's today. He has a vapor honing cabinet he was kind enough to let us use. It is a really interesting thing. It has beads in it but it won't remove paint or paper gaskets but my dry cabinet with beads will. Before... After... We also did the timing cover, spindle and some small thermostat parts. They all turned out really nice It's also really nice to meet another forum member in person. I always enjoy that...
  9. It sounds like the Caswell material I used. Looked and smelled like two part epoxy. Super hard when cured.
  10. Be sure it well cured! What does the Por15 liner product look like?

How difficult would these be to retrofit?
  13. I would also caution against using a new alternator to charge an exceptionally dead battery. Thats a good way to destroy an alternator
  14. So $2250 sold; BIN was $3144. Serious money for seats but they look perfect. Just like new. That seems like a reasonable price for what NOS seats would cost
  15. How much did they end up selling for?
  16. It's surprising the tires are that porous! Also that is a lot of wheels on those pallets!

I have found that subframe metal is pretty stout. I believe I have pictures of that area in my build thread. I had to take the rear panel out and pull that exact area. A good frame machine is really the tight tool for that!
  20. Have you ever towed or transported the car with a car cover on it?
  21. So you figured out how to adjust it?
  22. The struts on a 280z have a larger OD tube iirc

Good update Jim. Yes the new pumps can be that bad. I really think it's the valves in the new pumps. Sometimes they just don't seal or they stick open. It shuts off soon after that...
