hi Stacey Depends on what else is done to the car e.g. camshaft, carbys. It is a matter of experimentation to see where the car runs nicely. I set mine at 30deg at 3000rpm but it has a higher lift cam and i have a points dizzy. Try it at 25deg at 3000 and work from there.

I reckon there is nothing better than plain metal nicely polished up. Hit it with Wet and Dry, brush and then sand her down. Hit with some metal polish and bingo - lookin good :cheeky:

Well I have sprayed the engine bay and it turned out pretty ordinary. Finally got the paint right and it looked pretty good - you were right Z Kid - lots of thinners to keep it from drying out. I then put on a clear laquer and judiciously followed the instructions. Mistake!! The clear went on too dry. I think I will strip the whole car back and drive it to a mate who knows what he is doing later this year. Anyway while I had the engine out I put on a new cross member to give me better cornering. That was a job and half. The hols are now over and it is back to work. The engine has to go back in next weekend now. :sleepy: Biker

Thanks Z Kid Having some dramas - paint went on too dry and had to sand it all off. Biggest problem is cheap gun and inexperienced operator - lethal combination Will battle on

I have my engine bay stripped out and am ready to paint it. Have sanded back and applied primer. However, I am not sure of the mixture of the final coat. I am spraying an acylic metallic 113 colour. I have 2 litres of this paint, 1 litre of thinners but do I need a hardener in the paint as well.? Also, should I apply any clear coats? I had a book on panel beating and painting but this has gone astray in my recent house move.

Mr Camouflage If you show your age like me then you may remember that Glen Seton was one of the first to carry an on-board camera in the R30. It turned out to rain in the afternoon and they had the camera on. Seton was wheel spinning right across the top of the mountain at an average of 160kph which turned out to be some real good footage. One of the beauties of Bathurst is the variations in the track (remember that it is a public road for 51 weeks of the year). The only other circuit that would offer similar challenges all contained in 6 kilometres (5 miles) would be Spa or Nuburbring - but then again I don;t know all the circuits of the world. biker

Just replaced my rubber hoses with braided. First one would not come off and ended up destroying the steel pipe as it twisted because I used a crappy flare wrench. Now I have to get a new pipe made as Nissan no longer sell them. Now have a bloody good flare wrench - the rest came off fine. Lesson is that the flare wrench is the key if it is tight. If stripped pull out the vice grips but be prepared to buy a new pipe. Biker
  10. And we are off and racing again with another controversial argument come discussion!!. Lesson I leant when I was young was never to discuss politics or religion- it will only get you in trouble. Why don't we look at the contribution of all in WW2 and not just the us and them model. 1. The poms for standing up against Hitler by themselves? 2. The french for donating the battleground and there constant harrassment of the occupiers during WW2. 3. The yanks who contributed their industrial and manpower might. Without it the fighting would never had ended. This also includes the lend lease program before they even entered the war. 4. The russians who sacrificed 20 million people. 5. The kiwis who it could be argued as some of the best fighting force in the world after their fight at Monte Cassino. 6. The canadians who fought in all areas of Europe during WW2 especially the debacle of Dieppe where the leasson were learnt at their expense for D Day. 7. The polish who were let down by a number of countires. 8. The aussies who as a rag tag bunch of reservists managed to inflict the first defeat on the invincible japanese. 9. The japanese and germans who have now gone on to be worthy contributors to today's society (which other nation has it in their consititution that disallows them having offensive weapons) The list goes on........ We now live in the 21st century - remember the past and the sacrifices made by a lot of brave people but also learn to not to make the same mistakes. Biker

Double Doh!!! :stupid: Gee I forgot to mention that when you return your old needles, Ztherapy will refund $30.00 - no point keeping them if you get new ones. Bruce Palmer of Ztherapy is quite happy to discuss costs and shipping details and his emails come thick and fast. (does the bloke ever sleep?? ) Biker

Doh!!! didn't see the suspension video on the price list - could use that one too. Gee I started out wanting the video which naturally has to come form US then thought well whilst I am at it, I might get some you beaut jets - turns out that Bruce suggested that I get the tune up kit as it would work out cheaper. The kit includes, needle and seats, fuel hose from bowl to jet, the thingy under the carby which the fuel hose is attached to and the needle goes in to, gaskets, seals, needles. The lot landed in Oz was $150.00 plus prioirty postage of $13.00 Admittedly, I had to shake the box a bit to see if there was anymore in there as i forgot that carby kits don't look much when you buy them. Just wanted to let others in the club know that I have had recent email banterings with Bruce Palmer at ZTherapy. In the end Bruce offered me some good advice and managed to sell me a tune up kit and video for my SU's (good salesman :surprised :bandit:). Turn around time to Australia from notification of despatch to home was 1 week - Thanks also to US Priority Mail!! It has been a great service offered by ZTherapy to us distant cousins in the land of plenty. After getting home from work, looking at the TV program which meant that my choices for TV content were very lean and I could watch the ZTherapy video without argument from the handbrake (the wife). On the TV box was some silly show we have call Dancing with the Stars whereby you watch ex-politicians trip over their dresses, mainly the female ones. (this is a real show!). Second choice was bloody Suvivor where the Tugalott Tribe and the Faqarwee tribe (thats what I call them) fight to the death over a packet of Pringle Chips. And lastly Australian Idol where the judge "Dicko" or Dickhead" (I can never remember his name) is the actual star of the show! I would like to thank you Americans for sending these shows to us as I was quite able to sit down engrossed and absorb every twist of a bracket of the ZTherapy video that came with the tune up kit, and the missus could not complain as their is no sensible justification to make me sit there and watch any of the above garbage. :classic: Thanks ZTherapy :classic:
  14. Another one to look for is the Dizzy. Several months ago I had the problem of once hitting 4500rpm it seemed like I was hitting a rev limiter. Turned out that the bearing/bush on the shaft of the dizzy was worn allowing movement against the points as revs built therefore alterin the gap at the points. To check it, remove the rotor cap and see if there is any large rocking of the shaft/cam that the points runs against. biker :classic:

I am currently using Bendix Ultimate Pads for road and track work. Have not experienced any major fading to date. Not sure if they would suit Toyota 4WD discs but may be worth checking out. http://www.bendix.com.au/_home.asp Biker:classic:

1 Bravo At the end of the open arms were closed fists!!!! so i am told. Redfern Ugh!! Worked at the Railway yards for a few years and that was tough stuff. You had to pick your pub around there. Have fond memories of the old RSL near the station. Kens240Z Don't recognise the Zed in the photo. Bad luck you missed Nimbin. The bloke who advised you was right, after visiting there you would thank him or hit him. It is one of life's mysteries in that area as 1 Bravo said. Once took my young bloke for a ride on the bike one Sunday. They had the country fair on one side of the road and the hippy market on the other side, a real eye opener. It was like walking from out of the new millenium into the 40's with a quick skip over to the 60's. The only problem with Nimbin is that the ferals and the rat people have spoiled it. Even the hippies don;t like them Biker:cry:

1 Bravo 6 Fortunately, I was from the nice part of the burbs - we were all too scared to go near that bloody Waterloo area even if our names weren't Napoleon. My stomping ground at my tender age was around Harold Park, Forest Lodge and Annandale before moving out west to the mountains. Number 2 son has now moved to the area and it is great to go back there and visit him and relive the old stomping ground. To Sudz Just recently read a good book written by a yank named of Bill Bryson called Down Under. It is about his adventures of travellling around Oz and comparing the differences with both countries. Might be worth a read to kill some of the waiting for the trip to start. It's easy reading too with a sense of homour thrown in.:classic: biker
