  1. The filler plug is about 2" above the drain plug in the back of the housing. Might be hidden be the mustache bar. You will have to crawl under and have a look. Hint - loosen the filler plug before you remove the oil - if you cannot get at it and drain the oil - then :nervous: Biker
  2. Thanks Richard I do understand the complications of going along on runs with people you do not know - last bike trip I did I thought I was in the GP500 going through Woodford!!! I will probably not get away until either Thursday or Friday morning depending on work issues. I usally take the New England to beat the caravanners and grey nomads (yeah I know i am nearly one too) on the coast road. May see you out there - look for the rough froggy green zed. Biker

The Toyo are getting a good name of late here in Aus for track work - maybe you could check them out over there. Biker
  4. 26DET Of the guys leaving Thursday, is there a central spot you are leaving from and lastly are you going the New England, Pacific or down through Moree? Going down in one day is not bad if you get away early enough - its only 1200klms :cheeky: Sorry to be a PITA Still making my mind up whether to go as i need to rebuild rear wheel bearings and i will need some new tyres - i am not stacking in my race tyres as I have to take the passenger saeat out to do that!! now jus have to wangle the dosh from the missus Thanks biker

That would explain why the linkages are on back to front

Winston What kind of carbs are your runnning or is it a FI. Picture is quite detailed up close but I cannot pickup where this part you have highlighted is attached to. Can you get another picture that shows the area better (zoom out). I do not recognise any of the parts that you are showing that are so close to the Dizzy. Then again i am form Aus and we have things back to front down here. Biker

The rebuild cost me arund $650 Aus (about $500US) but that included a 2nd hand syncro for the 2nd gear. The box I have got is based on a porsche design (so I am told) that Nissan used in some of the 5 speed boxes. regards Biker
  8. If anyone is going to Goulbun for the Nats from Qld, is there a group going and if so, where are you leaving from? I am thinking of going but not sure if it will be in the Honda or the Zed - depends on the Handbrake (read missus) if she wants to come along. Biker

I know that this was not on TV (or TiVo) but I am currently doing a course at Tech on spray painting so that I can get the courage up to spray the Zed. Lo and behold the teacher puts on a video (yeah, we still have them down here in Oz) and the restoration project on the video was spraying a 240Z white!! Woo Hoo - offered the teacher my Zed for a new video as he said that the video was starting to get dated. biker

I think the 2nd gear syncro is one of the archillies heel on the Zed. I have crashed two gearboxes, both 2nd gear syncro in the past three years. If you buy a another box, who is to say how long it will last - but then again you might be lucky - last gear box I got 2nd hand has been in the car for 12 months but it is starting to crunch in 2nd. Winston The lever justs sits on a little ball, you just need to lever it off but carefully, they are only made of a nylon/plasticy stuff. As you suggested it would probably need a good cleanup and maybe some fine sandpaper on the ball as it might be rusted up. Putting it back on is easier - just pops back on the ball. Regards Biker

Sorry Bambi Looked at Post 4 but missed Post 2 whereby you broke my heart by saying that the box had to come out Anyway took the car for drive last night for a bout 30klms and its feels good. Now just have to get the wheel alignment done, a sparky to check over the electrics, check over the tightness of the bolts and then for a run into the hills on the weekend. Why do you blokes like chopped liver???? Biker

Hi Guys The saga continued hence why I thought I would mention no more until the problem was resolved. Zeiss150, you were on the mark. There are several collar sizes for the thrust bearing. Mine was too short and hence it was not contacting the fingers. Got a new one and fixed the problem but still no clutch. In my current thought "lets put in new parts whilst I am at it", backfired. Got a new master cylinder from Nissan Aust. Original type and 5/8 piston. Also got a new slave cylinder from Nissan as well except this was made by PBR which manufactures clutch/brake parts. Not a second thought as I got it from Nissan. Still no clutch which meant having to trailer the car to a mechanic 100klms away. Turned out that the PBR slave cyulinder (purchased from Nissan) was the wrong size  They supplied a 7/8 piston slave cylinder when it should have been a 3/4 to match the 5/8 master cylinder. The master cylinder could not keep the fluid pressure up to the larger slave cylinder. (another lesson learnt for young players! Mechanic put new 3/4 slave cylinder on and away we went. By the way - car goes like a rocket on quick test drive with new L28 motor in. Biker

Does anyone remember the Roy and HG show on the ABC. They used the Nissan Cedric as one of their main talking points as to why would anyone name a car Cedric?? It became the main joke of the show for a number of weeks. At the end of the show i think they gave it away to someone.

Thanks guys Will remove the dust cover and see if I can see what is going on. But there is not much room to move in there so i have been building myself up by telling myself it is only about a dozen bolts to get the tranny out. :cheeky: It is just getting the car up high enough and getting the shaft back in that is the hard part. Hope the missus is not too tired when she gets home from work to pitch in and also listen to my expletives :hurt:

Hi Bambi Same gearbox and same lever, only new bearing. pressure and clutch plate. Pressure and clutch plate was put on the motor by top mechanic. I am thinking along the same lines as you but am looking for inspiration

Over the past few weeks, everytime I load up the club page, up pops an ad for cars for sale. Sometimes it even happens when jumping between threads. If this is making money for the site, then that's ok. But just checking that the site is not being hijacked by trusty used car salesmen.

Have just installed a new motor and cannot get the clutch to work. Have put in new master cylinder as well as thrust bearing, pressure and clutch plate. The strange thing is that I can literally push the thrust bearing lever that comes out of the gearbox with little resistance. It does not even bounce back as one would expect if it is supposed to push the fingers in on the pressure plate. The pushrod on the slave cylinder practically falls out. :tapemouth Would this mean that the thrust bearing is not sitting on the lever correctly and if so, is it somehow possible to fix this without removing gearbox by going through the dust cover (I am not keen on doing this again!!). :disappoin

Hi Zedrally I just bought a new kit which included the diapragm and a few other odds and sods. My first reaction was that I was losing oil through the gasket on the head. Replaced those. My second choice was that I was getting oil coming out of the pivot arm pin. Plugged up the holes with little success. This was really starting to annoy me as it was throwing oil over everything. Spoke to another Zed owner and he told me he had the same problem. New pump for him and no oil. New pump for me and no oil. New pump for Zedrally???

Nope Put new seals in twice and still did not fix the problem. Oil was getting past the seal so the only thing i can think of is that something was out of shape with age. Suprisingly, Auto One had the new pump on the shelf - nearly fell over when I asked about it and he brought one straight out. Looks a little tacky at first compared to OEM but works great. check my gallery - it polished up pretty good. :nervous: AUTO ONE For Your Nearest Store 13 6131 Beaudesert 87 Brisbane St St 4285 (07) 5541 2339 Ipswich 196 Brisbane Rd 4305 (07) 3816 1100 Internet www.autoone.com.au

ZedRally Had the same oil leak as yourself - oil out of the small hole at the bottom of the pump which was hard to find until you get the pump off. Had it repaired with kits twice with little success. Gave up an bought a new AM pump from AutoOne in Briz. By memory it cost about $110.00. Should have saved the money from buying the kit and just went out got the new pump. biker

Oops - I thought we were talking about the outside Can't hurt to polish the inside as well but why would you want to??? Agree with you Tomohawk - just give it a good rub with some solvent such as Acetone or Carby Cleaner to get the oil stain off (It seems to get everything off). Biker

Has anyone got an opinion on wrapping extractors in heat shield materials. Are there any power advantages e.g such as reducing engine and fuel heat?
