  1. I'm looking for two new/restored Gold Zinc Plated Engine Inspection Lights. Anyone have spares, or know a source? MSA, ZCar Source, Datsun Spirit, and Banzai Motorworks are all out of stock. Motorsport! Engine Inspection Light, 70-83 Z/ZX - The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts Datsun Nissan 240z 260z 280z 280zx Engine Inspection Light Banzai Motorworks Thanks!
  2. Got my Triples back from Todd last month. Here's a shot of them when I bought them, and a shot from when I got them back from Todd. They've come a long way. These 44's are going to have their work cut out for them in the Spring.
  3. Leon, I've finally had time to dig through that entire HybridZ thread. I had to read it about six times to understand all the big words you guys were using, but it was definitely worth my time. How'd you go about building your twice pipe setup?
  4. I've read all the opinions posted on other forums. People seem to thing wrapping headers is evil, with rusting and potentially compromising your header's metal integrity... etc. The header wrap on my '70 did a great job. No idea if it's destroying the metal, but it keeps temps down. I'm looking at these coated headers on MSA, but would feel inclined to wrap them still. More can't hurt, right? Or can it? Will it burn off the coating faster? Is any of this important at all? Friday's shouldn't have this much thinking going on.
  5. How else 'ya gonna read it on the can?!
  6. A friend of mine is doing the same; documenting his build. While his grammar leaves something to be desired (Jason if you ever read this, 'u kno im right'), he's an incredible mechanic and attempts projects I wouldn't dream of under crazy timelines: http://zgoldschlager.tumblr.com/. This blog just got started, so he'll be keeping it going. I'll be doing the same thing with both my '70 and '71. Helps keep me organized. Others (Arne) have done incredible sites for Datsuns and, now, 911's. So instead of 10 people doing individual free blogs, you combine them all together under one platform, and each day there's an update or two from some, but not all of the projects. You build a community around it with comments (BaT style), sell your advertising space, get individuals who attend Z-Car shows around the country to write articles with photos occasionally and boom: There's how you keep a profitable publication going in the digital age.
  7. So if I'm reading between the lines correctly, you guys are saying you want to come together and start an online publication for Z-heads? The amount of original content and tech articles you gents post here would certainly be enough to keep a daily blog-style publication (BaT Style?) rolling, and you have enough Nissan/Datsun friends that you know would share their thoughts, hints, photos, and track day experiences to keep it going.
  8. Just got off the phone with the Nissan Dealership. Should be in Thursday. I love this community - Thanks for the quick response!
  9. Anyone know the Part Number for this mesh? Sorry for the old thread.
  10. Ah: Found it. Thanks for the keywords... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread42098.html
  11. Thanks Clayton. Any idea where exactly inside the block? I'm trying to find exploded diagrams as we speak.
  12. In the photo below, the part on the right: Where in the engine does this come from? Thanks in advance,
  13. Norfolk is right on the coast, but if this car really has low-rust, it might be a good purchase. For someone else with garage space. http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/3472416958.html
  14. Carl, John, Thank you. After my frustration wore off I realized I wasn't going to be buying gears from Nissan. The car's drivetrain was purported to come from an S30 race car built in the '70s that was totaled. The transmission was an early roadster 5-speed / 240z conversion. That being said, I have good reason to believe the car was built in it's current configuration prior to the 200SX being produced, and having spoken with both PO's since the car was built, nobody ever swapped the differential. So where this particular 3.545 R180 came from is beyond me. I apologize for the poor photos; they're all I have on my phone at the moment. More at home.
  15. I'd probably go poor, but would ordering P/N 38100-U3400 from Nissan replace the gears inside my R180? It can't be this simple, but frankly I just don't know much about differentials to know why it wouldn't. I think I've read every diff thread today and its making my head spin. Catalog: http://www.nissanusa.com/nismo-web/Nismo-Motorsports-Catalog-2012.pdf
  16. Continuing to pull apart the '71, which has been modified by POs. Documentation obtained with the car indicated it had a 4.11 R180 differential installed. We replaced the U-Joints in the stock Half-Shafts, and pulled apart the differential today, only to find out it has 3.545 gearing. It also has a large "K" stamped on the top, which I understand is from the 84-88 200SX. So, someone has replaced the stock R180 with a later replacement R180, geared identically. I understand there's some work involved to get this to bolt up with stock halfshafts, so someone spent some time here. I guess I'll be looking for a 3.90 differential now, and will be doing the R200 swap. Not something I was looking forward to. You can't buy new replacement gears for these K-R180's, can you? Frustrating. I wonder where that 4.11 ran off to along the line.
  17. Any thoughts? Part of me thinks that those gears would shred, but I'd imagine there are roadsters that have put down more power than my Z somewhere along the line. It bolts right up, and has an adjustable length.
  18. This is more of a curiosity question. The driveshaft I just pulled from the '71, which had the roadster transmission, appears to be a roadster driveshaft. It was unique in that the rear (prior to the diff) has this adjustable length gearing to it. Can be seen in this eBay ad as well... notice at the end it has a good 4" of teeth. Would too much torque shred these things in a Z? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Roadster-2000-5-Speed-Drive-Line-Shaft-/150878926724?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222001%26algo%3DSIC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D13899%26meid%3D4382127452391520462%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1095%26rk%3D2%26sd%3D200702883757%26
  19. Zed- Sorry, yeah it's hard to keep straight. Car #1 is a 1970 240z. Stock. This has the original 4-speed currently Car #2 is a 1971 240z. Modified. Has the FS5C71A transmission installed. This is the roadster transmission paired with a 240z bell housing. This will go in the 1970. 280ZX transmission will be going in the 1971. It'll be hard to do the visual inspection since the differential, mustache bar, and halfshafts are all out (as of today) but I can get it bolted back together in January and start measuring. I'll try the drive-shaft from the 1970 - if that works... Fantastic. If not, I'm sure it's easier to find a Series-II driveshaft than a Series-I. Cheers, and thanks all
  20. Pulled the differential and roadster transmission. Will try a Series-1 driveshaft once I pull it from the '70. Thank you all for your help.
  21. Guy - Just rec'd and responded to your PM, but wanted to answer some of your questions here that I just noticed. Fred B. and I scratched our heads over this matter of production dates in my driveway today, but the windchill probably affected our ability to recall. My '71 does indeed have a Series-1 Ashtray. It does not have vertical defrosters, rear hatch vents, Series-1 B-pillar emblems, Series-1 gauges, or anything else my '70 has.
  22. Ah shoot! Sorry Guy, I typed the wrong dates there. It's a 3/'71. Does that change anything? I can't reuse the driveshaft I have because it's going in the other car. I need to buy something, but want to buy the right one. Is there a drive-shaft I can buy that will pair with the 280ZX transmission and the stock '71 R180 Diff? I don't believe any modifications have already been done; this is the car that had the Roadster transmission installed when I obtained it. Edit: I can't keep two cars straight. Not sure how you manage to do 6+
  23. I know this has been covered ad nauseam, but I can't seem to parse together enough facts for my particular situation. Car is a 3/'70 240z. I'm fairly certain I have an R180 diff, but it's alleged to have 4.11 gears. I have a 280zx transmission on-hand that I plan on dropping in. Which drive-shaft do I need? The transmission & drive-shaft that are currently installed are going to go in my '70, so I can't start there. I need to find a drive-shaft - is there a particular year/length I should be looking for? Thanks in advance. Free beer to anyone who (a) has the right answer and ( comes to my house to pick it up
  24. Thought I'd lay into a few steering wheels that have been lying around. The one on the '71 needed to be restored, so I figured if I was buying the supplies and investing the time, I might as well do all three. Hope to have them all done within a week or two.
