BTW, its my 77 280. The one that is in the "Got bored so...." thread. Im probably sweating over nothing but I don't recall seeing this a couple months ago. I just wonder if there is any correlation between this and the lower compression I got in a couple cylinders when I did a compression test about 6 months ago. A couple of the cylinders were down about 20 psi IIRC.

Depends on the ride you are after. If you want to replace them because they are now worn out but liked the ride it gave you before then I would go stock. And finding them may be an issue. Have you searched for original ones? Don't base your decision off one persons opinions. Get others from this site. If I had it to do again I would go stock bushings, if available, and lowering springs, which will stiffen the ride, and adjustable struts. Hmm.....I see another project coming.

It might be a little difficult to see it but I have a slight fluctuation in the vacuum gauge. I remember my old truck had this but a little worse and I had to replace the valve. The counter weight in the AFM bounces too. Do I need to be concerned? https://youtu.be/woHqz7JVLQ0
  6. You could come visit me before heading to Alaska....85 and sunny here We could do a little tuning.

Polyurethane bushings are much harder than stock rubber, I'm sure you know that. I installed them in my Z 20 years ago and today wish I had the originals in. And maybe just the lowering springs which also make it a harsher ride. I installed the energy suspension urethane kit and lowering springs and boy is it a hard ride especially on the roads out here. Maybe there is someone out in your neck of the woods with a Z that has urethane bushings. Give you a real good idea of how your Z will turn out. If you do it make sure to lube them well when installing.
  8. The base on the right in "Blue's" tech tip is the right one. I have an extra one as well.
  9. Yeah I kinda figured. I should drive down there and investigate. Its only about 2 hrs from me.
  10. Still impressive. Crowd was quiet but could you imagine what would have happened if there was a bigger "Datsun" crowd? Might have sold higher?
  11. All I can say is WOW!
  12. If the steering wheel still isn't correct I would take it back to the shop and show them. They should have test drivin the car after the alignment. If they did they would have noticed the wheel is off, no?

Your right about tiny. Yours may have been replaced with a slotted screw ZedHead.

I just had mine out recently and it was a tiny philips head screw.

Yeah mine would have been next but Schwarzenegger put and end to that program. The last time I had it smog tested they did the idle, 15 mph, and a 25 mph test on the dyno. I got lucky. I adjusted it before hand and it passed. I will just get the wideband setup to make it easier to adjust. Its every other year here. But I tinker too much and suffer for it when its time for the emissions test.

Thanks, at least I can get the wiper close for now.

Ok will do. Time to order one.
  18. I would do an alignment. Anytime you have the suspension apart, like you had, you should have it done. Especially if you replaced all bushings. As far as how the steering wheel "sits", have you driven the car to seat the new bushings? Maybe its not off as much as you think. The alignment shop will make sure the steering wheel is centered.

Thanks Philip. The 16.0 range is where CA likes the A/F ratio to be. With that said I'm trying to adjust the AFM right now without the wideband and am doing something wrong. I can tell I'm "richer" (not too much) at idle but lean at WOT. I get some "ping" at WOT. I can't seem to find a happy medium yet. Not sure why its so difficult. So you are saying the spring is more for WOT? What about the wiper? I think that is where I made my mistake...messing with it. I have been trying to get it right by adjusting all three. Spring, bypass screw, and wiper. Oh, the cat has to have certain info stamped into it. The emissions station will verify this before passing the vehicle. No stamps, no pass.

Exhaust isn't new but I have an exhaust header, 2.5" exhaust, a CA approved catalytic converter, and I forget what muffler I have. This stuff is only at the most 5 years old. Have you ever noticed when you are looking for an aftermarket performance cat that it always says either its not sold in CA or only 49 state legal, meaning the same (not sold in CA). I get CA wants clean air but.....I could go on forever on this topic but wont.

Hey Jason, you have any experience with the CA emissions testing? I'm hoping a wideband o2 sensor will help me tune for the emissions testing.

Hmm...Blue, not sure I get how that works. I will have to investigate.
  23. Boy do I agree with you on this Blue. I don't even go to zcar.com anymore. Not all of the members are bad though...thought I better say that.
  24. Yep, metal side to header.

That will change CR, raise CO's & HC's = emissions fail. Timing might be the best because I can easily adjust back to stock for emissions testing. 411 gears would be a blast I'm sure. Too funny. I would love to drive one of those just once. I have the header and 2.5 exhaust and all I noticed was an increase in noise. Turbo motor would be nice but are getting hard to find complete. All really good ideas.
