Hi Larry, It's great to have you! I saw your photos come across the gallery and your car looks absolutely amazing. This forum is an excellent place to get help or just to sit and discuss Z stories. Have a great time and let me know if you have any issues. Mike

Smackdown 08 September 13-14 weekend at Packwood. The SMACKDOWN event is a club TEAM competition, with cars competing in 4 different driving challenges over 3 days to determine who is the best all-around car club in the Northwest. The event is noteworthy in its party atmosphere, and the fun aspect, it is not serious competition, but FUN. free camping on site. Event Details Any club member can register and run in any, or all of the events, Except the tsd, that will be a limited entry so we aren't running all night. Clubs can field more than one "team" but it must be designated in advance, the second team will share the non team bonus points, but it itself will not count towards the club total bonus points Some changes from last year are the event will have Capacity for 14 cars per team, however each team can only run 10 driver car combinations, and ONLY 2 drivers per car in Autocross and drift, only one car can share one driver in the drags. These changes are to encourage drivers to run in more than one event (limit on team size) and discourage teams from showing up with only one good car and spreading it around ( we had one team last year that wanted to run 4 drivers in one car.) The pro VS amateur competitions will be determined by driver experience. If a driver has competed in more than 10 autocrosses in the previous 2 years, he or she will be considered "PRO" and asked to compete in the pro class. amateur class is restricted to STREET TIRES only, tread-wear 140 or higher, and must be street licensABLE cars, no full race or stripped cars or "specials". PRO classes run unrestricted by SCCA SOLO2 rules r compounds and slicks are allowed. See NW Autosports for more info. Click here for more info: http://www.datsunsnw.org/Events

  5. I like car shows with a variety of things to see and a variety of interesting people to talk with... The "usual" car shows with all the same exhibitors (mostly american muscle cars) can get pretty boring... to me of course. But, a show with a big variety of foreign and domestic, along with some mods, really turns me on. Oh, and bring on the Ferrari's. These turn me into a little boy.
  6. I had the same problem. After replacing the U-joints twice I finally got rid of it by replacing ALL of the bushings in the back-end of the car. Mustache bar, diff mount, strap, and of course the U-joints. Some advice on the u-joints... don't go cheap here. Buy the best U-joints you can find. I eventually went with stock replacements but I am sure there are better ones out there now. I recommend doing everything because you probably don't want to take the back-end apart again. Get it over with and do all of the bushings now.

Very nice! I'd like to see the entire model.
  8. FYI, you can make this less graphic heavy for our modem users by using the ATTACHMENT option instead of the link to outside pics... Our server will size them down automatically.. Anyway, for an early model car... that price isn't bad. Try to see if he'll take $1k. Just know that you'll spend at least $5 - 10k to restore her... HOPEFULLY the engine is good for a rebuild. You want to keep the matching numbers (if they are matching). Mike
  9. Says the guy is out of Corvallis. Funny that's where Scoville Nissan is located... I wonder if one of Jack's employee's is selling some old stock. Corvallis is about 10 minutes from my house. I'll give Jeff a call and see if he knows someone selling these keys.
  10. I guess you couldn't see me smirking/smiling when I typed that, but, I wasn't serious about the Mr thing... I always hate being called Mr... but, at almost 40, I should probably get used to it. HA! Anyway, I had no idea Nissan never released a DATSUN key? Is that true? I never had an original key for my '71 since the PO had lost it somewhere. Is there a write-up somewhere showing the correct keys for the various years the Zcars were produced? m

    (sigh)
  12. OOps... typo... sorry Mr. Stokes...
  13. Hi Carl, texasz, others... Please don't take the removal of your positive suggestions as negative marks. I simply wanted to remove any evidence of a flame war so we could continue the original discussion about keys. I know most of you were not to blame and don't mean to insult those of you who are on this club daily. Again, my intent was to simply perform a clean-up to get us back on track. Don't worry about it, Bill. Thanks for the apology. Now, let's get back to talking about keys!! My favorite subject!!!! m

  15. Guys, in the interest of keeping this thread on track, I cleaned up and remove the flame war. Please don't flame in here.
  16. This thread is starting to get a life of it's own. Think I'm going to spin off a new thread......
  17. Hi Tomo, YES absolutely everyone has a right to their opinion! Don't forget that it goes two ways because people are allowed to disagree as well as express their opinions. So, if you have an opinion don't fret if somone disagrees (or agrees) with it... M

I love rides like that... we used to do those kinds of runs on the crotch rockets... It would be a lot safer in a cage like a car.
  19. Hiya Vic! Where ya been? On a sabbatical ? It's good to hear from you.
  20. Yes, we are here to talk about the original Z. But, that doesn't mean we are unwilling to discuss concepts like the one here. I'd love to take my semi-modified foreign car to a mostly-American hot rod show to see how it goes off... Yea, I am getting that feeling. I'm so happy to know that we are able to help fill a need.
  21. Ok, I'm a little confused. When did this site become a "purist" club? That's news to me... Considering that I'm the founder of the site, it's even bigger news. Why do people insist on telling people to go away like this? I'm confused... :pirate: The human-race is in this together, I just don't understand differences like this...... Do you just think you're happily banging away on an American-made computer keyboard? The shoes and clothing on your back are probably not from America. Or if they are, they're probably assembled in Vietnam or some other country. Ever bother looking under the dashboard of your American made car? All those little components, circuit boards, modules, and technology... Sorry, but, I just don't agree with this thinking -- ESPECIALLY since this website is here because a foreign company wanted to bring us something really cool... the 240z.
  22. Frankly, I think the Z made huge leaps to gain the respect of the hot rodding community. The notion of Asian imports being cheap and ridiculous isn't shared by everyone on this site. In fact, the sheer number of Asian import purchases over the latest decade would suggest otherwise. Why is it that Ford can't figure out how to export their production without showing a huge profit LOSS while a company like Toyota can have their cars built in American and show record profits ? Anyway, off my soap box... I LOVE to see that a hot rodding company like this is able to take on a Z project and advertise it right along with the other rods. It makes me proud. A restoration project is the same no matter which way you look at it. All cars require the same attention and love to bring out their glory.
  23. Sorry Ron, I think I meant YOUR car...

Awesome info!! I was just thinking about ordering a key and didn't realize we couldn't get the originals anymore. It's great to have this resource to talk with others about stuff like this. Thanks
