I remember several years ago, my brother in law decided to get a helicopter. It had a rotor span of nearly a metre. He flew it tied down, about half a metre from the ground for quite a while, then when he thought he had it sussed, he cut the string, and had another go. He got it about a metre into the air when it lurched sideways and destroyed itself against his house. Don't think he ever got another.
  2. Robftw. Sorry to hijack your thread, but the other is closed. Just a little geography for Sarah and others who may not know. Now I hope yall don't take offence at this. New Zealand is NOT in Australia. We are about 4 hours flying time to the right, In the Pacific Ocean. If we carry on east we come to South America. Australia is to the west. We have a poulation of over 4 mil. Auckland the largest city has a population over 1 mil. Auckland is situated on a narrow part and you can reach the ocean on either side in a few minutes. We have summers to die for and winters with the odd frost or two, but we can use our zeds year around. At the moment it is mid winter here. Today we have just had a light frost and it is shaping up to be a glorious day so we will take out the zed and go for a cruise. Once again Robftw sorry to hijakck and thanks. Brian.

Grant. I'm not the slightest bit offended by anyone or anything here. I'm just saying it as I see it. Believe me, when you have had all and sundry poked into every bodily orifice and then some, then this is indeed funny. Brian

Having had both male and female fingures on numerous occasions and two prostate biopsies, and a radical prostatectomy which has left me unable to have an erection, I find this joke to be hilarious. I don't know or care what a teabagger is. I presume someone who uses teabags. I should think if anyone should be offended by this joke it should be a person who has been there, and God knows there are thousands of us. To me every day is now a bonus. Oh and I forgot to mention, cardiac arrest, and two major heart attacks, and now fitted with my own defibrillator. Anyone got any jokes about heart patients. Brian
  5. Interesting to read some of your slang terms. One that infuriated me down here and even talkback radio hosts were doing it. In reply to someone they would say. Oh OK---OK---OK. Thank GOD it's died out. Just so bloody lame. Any way. Not sure if my 240 is SICK or what, but we had a young guy combing his hair in the shine of the hood while we were sitting in a cafe. These cars get more looks than a new Ferrari down here. Now thats SICK.
  6. Power steering. But then I'm a lazy old bugger. Oh, and Toyota four pots and vented discs. Just remembered another. Daves headlight relays.

I had similar problems with the headlights. Turned out to be the headlight switch. They are repairable.

You are doing well. Take your time and think it through.

    Five hundred. Sounds fair.

This could be something as simple as an air lock in the cooling system. Had this in my 240. Had to loosen the engine side hose and burp out the air.
  12. Yep I now exactly what you mean. When I look at wiring issues a grey haze comes over me:ermm: One exception was Daves headlight relay harness . I found that a breeze. Brian.
  13. YOU KNOW YOU HAVE AN OLD CAR WHEN.? just thought of another. You cant pull into that parking space without having a thirty yard gap. Thats why I fitted P.S.
  14. When young guys and girls say. 'THATS A COOL OLD CAR.' When you can actually see the spark plugs withought taking off sheets of plastic. When you get ushered to the race car parking of a targa race when you are just a SPECTATOR. When a cop pull into a service station beside you saying, "wish I still had my old zed" When, on the car reaching 40 the annual licencing fee drops by over half. When most have rotted away. Brian.

    Too far gone IMHO Brian
  16. My guess would be rims no good or tyres out of round. Iv'e had the latter, and they can't be balanced properly.

That engine sounds quite healthy Steve. I agree with Mitchell. Times like this are the most important thing you can do with kids. It's been a long time since mine were that age, but I have fond memorys of working on dune buggys and motorbikes together. Good times for sure. Brian.
  18. Yes. That would be a fun project for sure. I encountered the turning left and going right thing when I was searching for a suitable rack. There are not too many that mount to the front of the crossmember to give the correct steering. From memory MX5 Mazda and Subaru. There are probably others as well. I used Subaru as I could find info on what others had done on Hybridz. I suggest Zenermax go on Hybrid Z and search power steering.
  19. That would take a bit of getting used to, having to turn the wheel left if you want to go right.:) Or am I confused here?

Hi . There is a lot of wear in my hood hinges. Has anyone replaced the pivot pins on these. How do you take the hinge apart, because the pins are riveted over at the ends. What would be the best method to attack this.?:stupid: Brian

I think I have discovered the problem. I removed both torsion rods, and have found there is a little wear in each of the pins that the hinge rotates on. The ends of the pins appears to be peened over, so I guess the way to remove them is to grind the end off. Has anyone done this repair /replaced the hinge pins?

The thing is I have done nothing that should affect the way the hood sits. I thought there may be slop in the hinge pivot pins, But they are, or appear to be all tight.I thought I might remove the torque rods to see if that has any effect on the way the hood sits. Are the rods easy enough to refit.? The hinges had not been cleaned or painted. I will also try lubing the hinges. and also try adjusting the position. I have seen other S30s with this problem as well. Is it a problem?

I have a 72. Just fitted the hood after some paint work. It went on in the same position that it was. The hood is sitting higher at the front than it did before, or it seems to be. Is there a way to lower it? I can push it lower, but the torque springs push it up again. It is sitting about half an inch too high. If I slot the bolt holes will I gain some adjustment? Thanks Brian.

Would SU carbs from a L24 be any good on a L20. How would they compare with a set of triples for performance, or would they be a waste of time. I have a 240 with SUs and it goes very well, so I assume they should flow enough air for an L20. Has anyone done this?
  25. Ran one of these filters on a tractor engine for 35 years and would swear by it. (Mind you, I did replace the engine a few times, as well as most other parts on that tractor.) I couldn't see a problem with them, and the toilet roll would not break down and clog the oil galleries.
