Caswell Plating
Re: HyElec HY3005ETo use this unit you need to turn the voltage knobs totally clockwise which allows the voltage to vary to maintain the amp or current setting. Use the current knobs to fine tune the amperage setting. Got this info off the Caswell sight. Not familiar with that Power Supply. Sounds like if you turn the voltage knobs fully clockwise you will be able to adjust the current. You must be able to adjust the current with the power supply current knobs to plate correctly. Low current for small parts, more current as part size increases. See if the above works for you.

Motorman's Build
Here are a couple updates until the thread is restored. Got the carbs cleaned up and mostly installed. Got new braided hoses from Jay at http://jdm-car-parts.com/. Jay does a great job with these hoses. The quality is amazing and they look great with the wire clamps. Will continue adding parts to motor. Also doing a bit of interior work.

Need some advice on selling
That would scare me too. When I sold mine on ebay, the guy paid the deposit, then paid in full before I drove the car up to his place in LA. I was fortunate to have an easy transaction.

HLS30-01121 Gets A New Life
Hi Clay, Just a heads-up on bolts for your car, stainless steel especially. The local Marshall's Hardware in Mira Mesa has just about any fastener you could possibly need. It is one of my most favorite places on earth and I visit there all the time. It makes Home Depot or Auto Part stores look like a push cart by comparison. Here is the website. http://www.marshallshardware.com/ Rich

'72 240Z Rebuild
Tires on.....the hoist legs are pretty long and wide, almost hitting the inside of both tires. If I raised the tires about 3 inches, the hoist would pass under them

'72 240Z Rebuild
I had to drop my motor in with the hoist on the right side of the car. Tried to go at it from the front, but the two legs of the hoist hit the lower control arms of the front suspension.

what is wrong here?
Looks like the previous owner did the same thing I did, put the calipers on the wrong sides. Bleeder port needs to be on top not bottom. Will not bleed right with bleeder port on bottom. You will need to swap the calipers.

Hello
Hi Clay, That is a beautiful '70 that you have there. I have a 3/70 build 240Z that is Safari Gold and actually the original factory paint. I did a refresh on the motor several years ago and blogged it on the site here. Below is the link. I also am currently restoring a 1971 240Z. This one is a complete restoration from the ground up. The blog on that one is here. Also, ZCSD (San Diego Z club)has some good resources for parts and restoration tips. Their site is here: http://www.zcsd.org/ I run the web site for the club. Hope to see your car in person someday. Best regards, Rich

Hi Zach, Welcome to the club! I have a '70 240Z myself. Here is the website to the local San Diego Z club if you are interested, ZCSD http://www.zcsd.org/ . We meet the first Tuesday of every month. Also, I live just down the 78 from you in Escondido. I am the guy you saw at Les's shop last Saturday. Best regards, Rich

Finally got one...now to make it mine: 1973 240z Refresh / Personalisation
Just a thought on the zinced engine bolts. I do a lot of my own plating and have been plating for years. Most of the time the parts come out great. The problem with nuts bolts and washers as you mentioned is that they are a lot of work and difficult to clean, especially on the wire wheel. My fingers are always trashed after a long session of part prep for zinc plating. So, for the engine bolts, an alternative is to contact Eiji at sales@datsunspirit.com and get the whole engine set of bolts. The quality is also a bit better than what you can do at home. This is what I will be doing for my '71 restoration.

240Z Resto - 01/1970 Car
Yes, definitely the clear zinc plated steel. Surprisingly, they hold their finish pretty well as seen in the pictures of the original heat shields. The 'yellow' zinc seems to turn brown over time.

I will double check but pretty sure it is zinc plated, not painted. There were a number of other items on the early '70 Z's that were also the 'white' zinc. The coil bracket and the wire clamps would fall into this category.
