I have installed three rear hatch and front windshields and it's really not that hard. The rear hatch can be done by one person. It helps to have a friend help on the windshield install. I blogged the install and details on the following thread down around post #21-25.

Hi Jim, Congrats on the first place finish. I took third out of the nine Japanese cars in our class. I was happy with that. Did I mention that the guy who took first in the Japanese Class has his own car museum? I must be in the wrong line of work. http://malamutautomuseum.com/

Took my '70 to the San Marino Motor Classic (Formerly the LA Concours). Lots of nice cars here. Yes that is 5 Ford GT40's, 3 Gull Wings, and a host of Ferrari's. Jay Leno was also there in some big Blue car with a nice chrome grill. Great event, eye candy is attached.

Got the exhaust system in today....very cool. It took about two hours of sanding and wire wheeling to clean the outside of the exhaust. After a final sand with 80 grit, I used the phosphoric acid to etch the steel and minimize further rust. The exhaust actually is very solid. After the etch, I did a clean with paint prep thinner and then sprayed with high temp aluminum paint. Nice to see the Nichira name on both mufflers. Now i just need to figure out how that one hanger attaches. Also cannibalized the original style fuel pump from my yellow Z and installed that. I had a new aftermarket pump laying around so put that in the yellow Z. Yellow Z will eventually get an LS motor, but that is down the road. Also got the Speedo cable installed, mostly.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Finally able to work on the car again here. Work was super busy the last two weeks so was not able to do as much as I wanted. I did get the emergency brake cable in sans retaining clips. Next time I will install this before the drive shaft goes in. I had to drop the shaft in order to get the cable into the hand brake mechanism. Got a passenger side taillight from 'Montezuma'. Thanks Dave, looks great. Now I am waiting for the bumpers to come back from the chrome shop to finish out the back end. Should get those back in a week or two. Got the smog parts that sit on the balance tube zinced today. That went well. Also got the inspection light zinced today. I was thinking of just buying a light, but the price for the lights has gotten insane. It was smarter just to plate the old one that I had laying around. It came out pretty well. Also got the air warmer tube in. Here are the latest pic If all goes well, I will have the exhaust system put in tomorrow.

The voltage usually sits pretty low.....close to 1 volt. current to average size part like an engine bay lamp is 3 Amps.

Also, after the plating tank, I spray with DI water to clean off plating solution, then dip in Blue Chromate for 30 seconds before the yellow chromate. Blue chromate helps with the rainbow effect and and also helps the yellow chromate to stick better. After yellow chromate I rinse in bucket of warm water then dry with my wife's blow dryer on high heat for about a minute.

Re: HyElec HY3005ETo use this unit you need to turn the voltage knobs totally clockwise which allows the voltage to vary to maintain the amp or current setting. Use the current knobs to fine tune the amperage setting. Got this info off the Caswell sight. Not familiar with that Power Supply. Sounds like if you turn the voltage knobs fully clockwise you will be able to adjust the current. You must be able to adjust the current with the power supply current knobs to plate correctly. Low current for small parts, more current as part size increases. See if the above works for you.

Here are a couple updates until the thread is restored. Got the carbs cleaned up and mostly installed. Got new braided hoses from Jay at http://jdm-car-parts.com/. Jay does a great job with these hoses. The quality is amazing and they look great with the wire clamps. Will continue adding parts to motor. Also doing a bit of interior work.
  11. Glad you are sticking with the flat tops.... I miss mine. I sold my silver '73 240Z and am still kicking myself for doing that. Never had a problem with the carbs after I did the rebuild...even in traffic on the 5.
  12. That would scare me too. When I sold mine on ebay, the guy paid the deposit, then paid in full before I drove the car up to his place in LA. I was fortunate to have an easy transaction.

Does anyone have a smog pump support arm available for sale? I have the main smog support mount, but am missing the arm that extends from the timing chain cover and supports the pump. Please contact and we can arrange through Paypal. Thanks, Rich

Sad to hear . He will be missed.
  18. Hi Clay, Just a heads-up on bolts for your car, stainless steel especially. The local Marshall's Hardware in Mira Mesa has just about any fastener you could possibly need. It is one of my most favorite places on earth and I visit there all the time. It makes Home Depot or Auto Part stores look like a push cart by comparison. Here is the website. http://www.marshallshardware.com/ Rich

Tires on.....the hoist legs are pretty long and wide, almost hitting the inside of both tires. If I raised the tires about 3 inches, the hoist would pass under them

I had to drop my motor in with the hoist on the right side of the car. Tried to go at it from the front, but the two legs of the hoist hit the lower control arms of the front suspension.

Looks like the previous owner did the same thing I did, put the calipers on the wrong sides. Bleeder port needs to be on top not bottom. Will not bleed right with bleeder port on bottom. You will need to swap the calipers.

Hi Clay, That is a beautiful '70 that you have there. I have a 3/70 build 240Z that is Safari Gold and actually the original factory paint. I did a refresh on the motor several years ago and blogged it on the site here. Below is the link. I also am currently restoring a 1971 240Z. This one is a complete restoration from the ground up. The blog on that one is here. Also, ZCSD (San Diego Z club)has some good resources for parts and restoration tips. Their site is here: http://www.zcsd.org/ I run the web site for the club. Hope to see your car in person someday. Best regards, Rich
