Oregon or Bust!
Thanks guys I am going anywhere in oregon i can find a job, . If anybody knows of a job opening, id definitely be interested. My previous work was as an accountant. I was planning on the coast like brookings or coos bay, but also lookin at eugene and salem. Darrel, i feel a little sarcasm in ur statement . I am a little worried about traveling through the mountains in wyoming, utah, south dakota, and colorado; not to mention some snow. I am thinking i will have to time it just right. My temp stays pretty cool so i hope it will be fine. I will post along the way with pics. Thanks again Frankie

Oregon or Bust!
This thread has been a long time coming. I got my 240z when i was twelve, and stared at it in the garage for 4 years before i could drive it. Its been a work in progress ever since. I made up my mind 5 years ago I was gonna save up enough to drive the car across country and relocate there. I moved to chicago and worked for 4 years saving up to come back and finish the car. I quit my job in May and spent the whole summer welding, sanding, wrenching, and thinking id never get done. As i am anything but a mechanic. Those of you on the threads will know that, as I have bugged nearly everyone on here for help along the way. You can see my car on my profile. This summer I finished putting in new floors, rebuilding the engine, new paint job, putting in all new brake system, and all the extras the came with bringing it up to make the long drive. Tomorrow I leave Indiana for a cross country road trip ending in Oregon where I plan to live. I will drive the old z a little over 5000 miles in the next month. Many of my friends have doubted me along the way but here i am. Well thast my story, I gotta get back to the finishin touches. But i just wanted to post this in hopes that those of us newbies out there will see there is a possiblity of doing it all ur self if your willing to put in the time, and hard work. Im sure ill be postin along the way if i have any problems, hopefully not though . Thanks everybody for the advice, help on my car. Frankie

pumping brakes
Alright, so i didn't listen and bought a new booster. I also put in a new master cylinder, check valve, both front calipers. Im still pumping...... I thought i saw a little leak in a rear passenger wheel cylinder so that is coming tomorrow. If that doesn't fix the pumping i am considering adjusting the push rod. Is this a common thing to do for this fix? As I said before, no visible leaks, with the exception of the rear cylinder. As this has gone so far, i figure this will not fix my problem though. Any common areas i should really be lookin for leaks. I don't see anything but maybe im missin it. Thanks Frankie

Replacing stereo for 78 280z
Yeah i agree with the head, you can always get an external eq. It just depends how big you wanna go. If you want sub, you will have to place both an external amp and a sub in there. Always some cuttin and drillin to place them. Hope i didn't blast, you had a good point i thought the retro was more basic then that . Frankie

Replacing stereo for 78 280z
Yeah this is a decision of originallity, if you want to keep it original, go with the retro. If you want some real sound, that you can tweak, you need to go with the newer brands however, expect some cuttin and modifiying. Frankie

Timing, Points, Dizzy, Pully marks
You might want to confirm the scale by manually checking TDC, clickin it over till ur sure the number 1 piston is at the very top of the cylinder. Then check to see where u r at the scale. I have heard the pulley is sometimes off or can move. Frankie

rear main seal leak
Done, very easy to get the seal out after i took the cap off. Thanks for the help, i think if it leaks again i rather drive it off a cliff then do all that again. Frankie

rear main seal leak
alright i have the tranny pulled and i am looking at this rear seal which way does the seal sit, does the flat edge go towards the engine or away? one side of the seal is flat and the other side is hollowed in with the circular spring on it, which side goes towards the engine? Thanks Frankie

rear main seal leak
Yeah i was considering it that way, lining that stuff up when dropping it in is always a pain. Now when you say grease it, is there any specific type of grease i should use. I greased it last time with just regular oil and I swear i put the lips toward the engine. Trying to make sure i don't do it wrong the 2nd time. :stupid: Thanks Frankie

rear main seal leak
I am going on assumption here, and i would like someone else's input if i am correct. I have been getting alot of oil leakage at the intersection of my tranny and engine. It seems to be affected by the rpm. Would this be correct to assume rear main seal? I just rebuilt the engine with all the seals new, what did i do wrong that could have caused this, I am considering pulling the engine but don't want to of course. If thats what has to be done then fine. Not happy right now. Frankie

looking for help with engine timing
Hey man, I had the same problem, and had a mechanic come over and make me look like a dumb arse. All he did was take out spark plug one and find tdc, (first piston at the very top of its stroke). Once u have the engine in this spot. Take the cap off the dist, and where ever the dist is point, put ur plug wire one there. Then starting in that spot, counterclockwise the wires are: 1-5-3-6-2-4. If it doesn't fire, the dist was actually pointing the exact opposite way at tdc, (I did this, it points 2 ways only one side give spark). Rewire with one starting on the exact opposite side, and go in the same ordeer from there. Frankie

pumping brakes
alright i took off the master cylinder and its on the bench I wanted to see how the plunger works from the booster, so i had someone press the brake while i watched the plunger move in and out when the brake was depressed and the plunger moved forward, i felt a breeze of air as the plunger moved out, is this normal?? Or is it a result of a faulty booster? Thanks frankie

pumping brakes
i think if this master cylinder doesn't fix the problem, im gonna just buy both the check valve and the brake booster together if it still doesn't work then, im gonna crush the car, i kid i kid one thing at a time, soon enough i'll have it stopin on a dime Frankie

pumping brakes
Pedal sinks to the floor with decent pressure. Ordered a master cylinder already. We'll see where this put me. Probably gonna have to order the booster as well. Thanks for the help. Frankie
