hi, can anyone tell me if a set of louvers bought for a 280Z will fit a 240Z? also I'm trying to locate the type of rear window louvers that have the more curved edges not the angular ones, is there a way to differentiate? I know some are ABS and some aluminum but I'm not sure that speaks to the shape of the louver or not? Thanks.

WOW, I think that price was per pair - meaning 2 not 4. Thanks Mike, those Konig Rewinds look better and better :classic:

thanks Arne, I was hoping you'd respond. If I want the Cragars S/S type wheel sounds simplest to convert to 5 lug, shes in the shop down in Alabama right now, I could talk to them about that - is it typically an expensive way to go?

I just bought a 71 240 with fender flares. currently it has Mirada (Yokahama) P215/60R14s on it, not sure of the rim width, at least 6 I would assume. I still have plenty of room to fill that rear flare (out) and I'm wondering if I could fit P245/60R14s on the rear. My concern is inner room not outer. I would keep the 215s on the front. If so I will go with a set of Konig Rewind Silver 14x7 all around http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/WWC001H/25-1059 2nd question, purists don't hate me, is there a way to adapt the Z 4 lug to handle the following wheels?..... http://www.roadwheels.us/14crssformov.html thanks in advance for all thoughts/opinions Ken B. this is current set up
  7. Hi Arne, can you add me a green Z pin to Pittsburgh, PA. - 71 240Z. Thanks!

I could be getting my references mixed up after 20s years but I do know that the 3 major catalouges for after market Zs in the US (at that time - 1985?) came from Jim Cook Racing, Motorsport and this company in Clifton NJ with Motorsport not the king at that time. And Victoria British (Black Dragon) seemed am upstart at this time. This is just a nostalgic point I suppose but nostalgia is something I value, thus it's part of the reason I love the Z. still thinking it was called Zapp.....but would love more feedback from anyone recalling.

Back in the early 80's does anyone recall a large aftermarket source and custom garage up in Clifton, NJ that was maybe called ZAPP? This was bacl around the time Jim Cook racing was big in the Z car aftermarket too. I remember driving up there from Phila one day and they were pretty impressive with several V8 Z's in showroom floor. Just curious :classic: also is anyone still dealing with Jim Cook? I recall his wife taking over the business after Jim but this was already several years ago. they go by so fast anymore.

I'm Ken, 48, and I'm an addict. Addicted to the Z cars that is. I've been in the Pittsburgh area for a year now originally from Phila area and have lived in Boston and KC as well. I've had a 77Z, an 83ZX, a 93 300ZX a 78Z (all come and gone over the last 27 years) and now just bought a 71 240 with a 78 L28 motor. Not a mechanic or body guy, just in love with these cars. When I don't own it feels like something is missing. This 240 will be THE ONE. Great board going here that has already offered me some terrific advice! thanks, Ken
  11. Hi gang, BIG THANKS for all the replies and advice but the deed is done now and I own her. Got her for 4K. She's at the resto shop now http://www.kaotickustomsalabama.com/ (this guy's work is beautful) getting the floor areas rebuilt. 2K Then over to the mechanic http://www.hesco.us/ this place is IMPRESSIVE for new springs and struts. Had the car inspection done and compression/leakage done. Needs a few things gauge wise. And again the struts and springs replaced - they are original. The engine test confirmed a once FI 280 engine now carburated and that compression was VERY good. Interior carpet and headliner excellent. Dash needs some attention and seats need replaced. Anyone know if stock spring strut set up still available? I want a smooth ride not a rigid ride the lowering causes. Also seats - anyone have any suggestion for replacememts that will fit but are better than the original 240Z seats? Will keep you guys posted - floor rust repair should include photos along the way. Thanks again.
  12. thanks guys - I just want a toy for the warm weather weekends - nothing more. I like the particular mods on this Z body wise and am not crazed to have her totally stock and also not totally modified - I think the Z was just about perfect looking from the get go. the rust issues may turn out to be a deal breaker I dunno, I'll try to be very thorough at the body shop. I like the 240/260 and 280 bodies but with the 71 240 there is no emissions inspection in the state of PA previous to 74 thus I can do header and custom exhaust, etc.
  13. agreed and that's what made me request him take it to the bodyshop - this MUST be addressed in the repairs spoken of. Let me ask a stupid question - for the 7,000 to 8,000 range would it be reasonable to find many in better shape? I simply don't know. This car with the work spoken of and quoted will total 6K to me.
  14. thanks for the advice thus far gang the interior looks pretty good, seam in the driver needs mending. I'm told and will confirm before buying that the L28 motor was modified and runs very strong. This would be my 5th Z so it's already in my blood thus here I am again. I've had a 77, an 83, a 93 and a 78 - that I just donated to the Z club of Kansas City for a project to do with as they like. here are some remaining photos - all I have
  15. My plan is if I buy her to leave it at the body shop for the repairs and return in 2-3 weeks to drive her home. We are also going to a garage called Hesco in Birmingham for a mechanical once over to see what might be needed - again BEFORE buying. My route back isn't planned yet as I have time and not sure if I'm even buying her but if so the most direct from Birmingham to Pittsburgh would be the route.
  16. I'll be going with the owner back to the body shop for an inspection BEFORE deciding to buy tommorrow. Thus far from my conversation the bodyshop owner who had it on the lift and pulled the carpet and seats and stated he saw 4 areas that needed patching in the floor but that overall much of the rest looked like surface rust. I'll try to be as detailed as possible in looking. I'm also not sure what a good price for the bodywork would be, 4 patches that include some custom work using an english wheel for 2K. Does this seem reasonable - I know proces vary.
  17. I'm trying to be realistic and know that just about ANY 1971 Z will have rust and I will have to deal with it. The $2000 to the bodyshop for the floor repairs wont be the end I know. I also know looking at photos isn't 100% - I was just hoping for your trained opionions on what is too far gone based on what you can see. It would be appreciated.
  18. Hi all, I am flying down to Alabama tomorrow morning to look at a 240 for purchase. I'm told it has a 280 engine yet is carburated. I didn't think the L28 came carburated (I could be wrong) so I'm assuming they simply didn't want to deal with the wiring, etc to retro the FI for the 240. The engine change was done before this owner purchased the car so the paperwork is MIA. I asked the seller to take some photos of the underside and he did so, even took it to the bodyshop for me and I spoke to the owner of the shop who uncover 4 problem areas in the floor. Said he could do a good repair in it for 2,000 using english wheel as opposed to cutting out all and installing all new floor. The paint looks good in photos but the body shop owner said once get up on it that it isn't a great paint job and will need attention soon. The BIG question is I was hoping for the opinion of some here on the condition of the car based on the photos I have - I just want honest advice/opinion on if the car is considered in good shape rust wise (just based on the photos). I'm so trying to find a place to post the pics. Was hoping for some input before I fly out tomorrow morning. Will be back with a link as soon as I find a posting site you can view. Thanks in advance for any input.
