ZCON 2010 July 28th-Aug 1st Nashville,TN
Man! Am I stoked to see your BRE Z Ron! I'm not bringing the Z this year but I'm driving up with the wife and son to "spectate" the show since it's only 8 hours to Nashville. We are driving up the night before and we grabbed a room at the Red Roof Inn in Franklin for like $59. Then we are headed over to Bryson City, NC so my 3yr old son can hang out with Thomas the Train Looking forward to seeing y'all there!

240Z hatch repair panel
I need to do this same fix... so you actually put the new panel on top of the old rusted one? Why not cut out the old and install the new panel? I'm not a paint and body guy so take it easy on me, but that just seems hokey.

Datsun: Marque of Honor 2011 at The Glen
So I just picked up my issue 13 of Nissan Sport for a re-read and while flipping through the pages a picture caught my eye (pg. 48) because some of the cars were familiar. It was an event recap of the 2009 Watkins Glen Historic Grand Prix... I had hung out with some of these guys when I attended in 2007. Well low and behold the last line of the brief paragraph states that "In 2011, Datsun will be the marque of honor!" Next year is transfer season for me, so as long as the Coast Guard manages to keep me state side and inport I WILL be there! I know that there are quite a few members in NY and a bunch of active clubs in the area... so who's with me? I will be looking for more info and posting as I find it. I think this is a pretty big deal, in '07 the marque was BMW, '08 - Triumph , '09 - Morgan, '10 - Alfa Romeo so I think it's pretty awesome for Datsun to be included. Let's be pro active with this and try to get a huge turn out to support our beloved Datsun. Nate

How come my battery frame doesn't look like yall's?
For all interested... the Nissan Battery P/N 999M1-NB24F (that's a Group 24F Battery) fits great and has the added bonus of getting the Positive Terminal out from under the fender. All of Y'all really got carried away with the y'all comment! Now Stephen, I don't recall any of us Southern Statesmen giving permission to California to use bastardized words like "y'all"... As I feel it rest solely on the south to make a mockery of the English Language Anyway, how's that GTO treating you? Do you miss your Datsuns?

How come my battery frame doesn't look like yall's?
Your new battery hold down looks exactly like the one on my '72... further more, having been born and raised in the south/southeast I feel it is my duty to make all aware of the contraction "y'all" as in "you all". First, the apostrophe is located between the "y" and the "all". Secondly, the plural of "y'all" is "all of y'all"... j/k

Making the switch
Welcome! While a late model Civic Si will lay down better times than a stock 240Z, when it's all said and done... you're still driving a Civic... and it's front wheel drive  The only issue I can you see you facing is being able to find one in decent shape... Minnesota can't exactly be overloaded with solid 240's. But if you are patient I'm sure you'll be able to find one. Best word of advice I can offer is to buy the best example you can afford. Happy Hunting!

Which parts would you start hoarding ?
Pretty funny. I guess a subtitle to the thread could be "Parts 50,001 through ~ 50,020" I would agree with all who mentioned the Turn Signals and 240 Taillights with good Chrome.

73 240z 92,000 miles for whole or parts
Right... so I went and took a look at the car... while being a complete car it has been stored in an open front wood shed for 23 years in the hot and sticky southeast where summer days easily reach 100 degrees but at the same time humidty is always an issue. What this means- the metal is rusted and the interior is crunchy. I put my hand on the drivers seat as I leaned into the car and the vinyl went snap and my thumb sank into the seat. All the plastic and vinyl sent to be dryrotted and crunchy. Rust in all the usual spots, fenders doglegs... I did not take the z as I do not have the time and space to tear it apart. I can supply contact info if anyone is interested... just send me a PM. It is a '73 with a manufacture date of 1/73. Blue with white interior. Numbers matching 4 spd car.

73 240z 92,000 miles for whole or parts
Unfortunately internet forums tend to not convey humor, sarcasm or a plethora of other emotions... sorry... I'll blame this on another internet fail. We classic car owners do tend to be quite volturous! All- I'll be as thourough as I can when surveying this Z... but I usually end up half blind and giddy as a school boy when I see any 240, so I'll be compiling an investigation list to take with me - so keep the requests and/or suggestions coming.

73 240z 92,000 miles for whole or parts
Really? The title of the post states whole or parts. If the car is really a cherry then I will snatch it up and sell as whole to a party with the intention of resto... but every redneck around here that sees any year Z thinks it needs a chevy V8 and tubbed wheel wells. Parting it out to enthusiasts is a great alternative. Plus, no offense, it's a 73. It's not like it's a 1969 build date or a forgotten about race car with a fully detailed log book. All that being said... do you need any specific parts that I can check on for you? If I do grab this car I will have to sell as whole or part it out quickly... say about a month-ish.

73 240z 92,000 miles for whole or parts
Wow. How does one ship a door across country... never thought about it. I guess I would have to build a crate and ship via freight? Didn't even think about the other interior colors... I'll def keep you in mind if the interior is white!

73 240z 92,000 miles for whole or parts
My biggest problem is that I have no room to store the whole car or that many parts... my acqusition of this car will be contingent on it having some really good parts. If I can't get the car off to a good home quickly, I will have to strip the best parts and get them sold off. The seller says that he won't be available until Friday... so we'll see. I'll keep y'all posted

73 240z 92,000 miles for whole or parts
So a buddy calls to tell me about a 240Z on Craigslist. Here it is... http://charleston.craigslist.org/cto/1496183883.html I've sent a message to the seller and I plan to go see it soon if it is still available. Mainly I'm interested in some interior bits... anybody else interested in the whole car or parts??? Any request in the event that I make it out there? ... it's only about 45 minutes up the road from me. Nate

Whats your car's name?
I also refer to her as "The Z", but she does have name... Kikka. Not unlike my wife, who I do refer to as "My Wife", but she also has a name Another thing, while I totally am okay with the whole "Last letter in the alphabet is the first letter in performance" bit... it does get a bit annoying when the domestic boys always think you're talking about a Z/28, and the eurotrash crowd immediately thinks BMW Z series.

Replacing stereo for 78 280z
The name of the feature is likely to be different for each mfr. Clarion refers to it as a Screen Saver. You could open up the owners manual or download the owners manual from the mfr website. Either way we've totally hi jacked the thread so I'm dipping out.

Whats your car's name?
Just be mindful of the fact there are still some WWII vets out there that lost friends in Kamikaze attacks... I mentioned getting a personalized license plate that read KAMAKAZ on it at a car show held at a VFW post and I got an ear full from some old sailors...

Replacing stereo for 78 280z
My Clarion is a 2005 model and you can program like 48(?) characters for the scrolling message. This only shows when you haven't screwed with any of the other buttons in a minute or two. The message actually reads "NATE'S 1972 DATSUN 240Z". The deal where the radio gives the call signs is called the Radio Data System or RDS. My '02 Pathfinder w/ Bose had RDS and it would state music or station genre like rock / news / talk, it also could give artist and song title, and on a trip in the DC area it actually gave me traffic info... pretty cool really.

Whats your car's name?
Her name is Kikka... (pronounced "Kee-Kuh) Direct translation... Orange Blossom Also the first jet powered Japanese air plane... an interceptor/ fighter-bomber / special attack plane manufactured by Nakajima during WWII. It has been my observation that in the US it is common to name cars female names where as in other countries male names are more common. I once asked a guy from Austrailia why he would give his car a male name and he stated something to effect of strength. I think the Z is too sexy to have a dude name, I don't find dudes sexy !
