  1. Thanks!!!! That had bothered me as I thought I messed up and did not want to spend the money to change it out. Thanks again
  2. I am talking about the center console with the arm rest. This one in my car has the slot where the choke used to be on the 240z. Other than that is is the same. Thanks
  3. I am a terrible typer - typos are my normal way - even though I may spell check the thing.................
  4. Here are a few pics of the interior. Trying to keep it close to original as I can. Not fan of making these beautiful machines into race cars. Racing is fine but it is for younger guys, I'm an old-timer. I did try to dress it up little with the new steering wheel and and the new stereo but that is about as fat as I'll go altering the interior.
  5. Wanted to share the results of your help in finishing up my 77 280z so I added some pics here. Its only about 85% original though - 1. Has a 240z console 2. Has new CD player and speakers in the back 3. Hatch floor changed from sloping to flat 4. Side mirrors are not original 5. Rear Window defogger has been replaced with new kit 6. Has 240z wooden steering wheel 7. Has a rebuilt five speed tranny from another 77 Z 8. Has a dash cap 9. Has a 91 Honda Civic AC blower Paint is GM Red/Oeange with a light Pearl touch. It is now my daily driver and is so much fun thanks to ya'll.
  6. Thanks to everyone who has offered info as I have worked on my Z since last May. She is almost done with only a few cosmetic things left. The last hurdle was getting the MPG up to a respectable lever. It moved from 18MPG highwayto 23MPG highway with the change of the temp sensor for the fuel injectors. I have replaced everything in this car except the engine so I think she will last me a while and it is all thanks to your patience with us non-mechanics. Thanks guys! Tommy
  7. I have an unused pair of head lights convers. I opened the box and decided against it. $30 plus shipping if you are still in the market for them. Tommy 404-229-0448 jthill3@earthlink.net
  8. I ordered from http://www.frostfighter.com/prt2600.htm as suggested and it came with directions and seems very simple to set up. Gotta wait now for a day over 70 degrees outside.. Thanks for the tip.
  9. Haven't got back to Nissan yet but the last two days I was up to 18MPG - had been as low as 11 mpg when if first got it.. Yee-Haw ....moving in the right direct...........
  10. Was getting bad exhaust fumes in the cab - especially with the windows down in my 77 coupe. Found that the lady who owned the car before me had her friend do some wiring, and the wiring harness dealing with the thermotime switch and related items was jerry-rigged. 3 or 4 wires twisted together, a few were not connected to anything, etc.... (remember that I am the non-mechanic guy on this board). NISSAN went through it and installed the correct harness. This reduced CO count from 4.63 to 0.16 and the NOX went from 161 to 102. Drove tonight with windows up, and down, and didn't smell a thing. My MPG is still at 16 MPG so I will have them run the tests for that on Page 42 in the 280Z Fuel Injector Manual I got off this board. You guys are helping me more than you know. Thanks Tommy
  11. Can you give me details of the Honda Blower - year, model ,etc... THanks
  12. It's come a long way and now I am looking at the air conditioner. For a 77 coupe, does anyone suggest a replacement that will provide more cold air and blower? Does not have to be original - looking for an upgrade here. Thanks
  13. Thanks!..... The problem turned out to be the thermotime switch was wired backwards. This resolved both the cold start issues and my MPG improved from 11MPG to 17mpg.
  14. Well the read window defogger is not working but I know the window is getting fire. So I got some of the replacement Defogger Repair Kits to "paint" in the spots. However I found that the spots are too great to repair this way. Does anyone know if there is a replacement "grid" anywhere or does anyone know where to get a replacement window with a working or near working grid? Thanks Tommy
  15. I've got: 1. New Cold Start injector 2. New Plugs/wire 3. New Vacumm hoses all round 4. New Fuel Injectors, new wiring harness/pigtails I'm only getting 11 MPG -tail pipe is black and I can smell gas/fumes while I drive. Thanks for any tips to check next
  16. Your guys are great! Thanks
  17. If have a '77 280z coupe and recently had a complete re-work of the brakes. While they are functional - - - they scream loud enough to hear them in Chattanooge from Atlanta. They used to use the old asbesots pads but we don't do that anymore. Does anyone have recommendations for a braked pad for my car that is quiet?
  18. I have a set of the body trim (just below the window). There are 3 pieces per side (front fender, back dender, and door) and each piece has a rubber piece that sits in the middle of it. My question is, "What is a good way to clean these up?". They have minor pitting and the rubber is not rotted but I would like to "brighten" them up (they are black rubber). Also how does the rubber attached to the trim piece - some kind of glue or other adhesive? Thanks
  19. Some of you may have read my post from a few months back asking for help regarding my '77 280z only getting 12mpg. I also had a bad issue with fumes in the car. This wasn't right so I dropped a note here to get suggestions. I got a lot of condolences but the best reply was "You've got a hole somewhere"..... Sure enough - my fuel injectors and connections were spewing raw gas on the engine. While I was feeling relieved to know what the problem was, I was feeling pretty stupid after chasing the more "scientific" cause like heat sensor, air flow, computer, etc. So this confessional is to let everyone know that some of us on this message board are so green, but we truely appreciate the help you guys provide. Happy Holidays
  20. I have a 77 Coupe. There are four tail lights - 2 on top (right and left) and two on the bottom (right and left). My question is: When I turn the lights on, the top two lights come on and the bottom two come on when the brakes are applied. Is this correct? I thought that all four should come on when the lights are turned on and all four light up when the brakes are applied. Thanks for all answers.
  21. Close to finishing the restore on my Z and I find the hatch glass in mine is dead - meaning the rear defogger will not work. I have power to the window but the grid is dead. So I'm searching for a replacement. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.
  22. Wow - This is sad. I'm not female but have just about stopped looking at this entire site just because of folks that berate others instead of offering help to others less knowledgable. And it does happen often.
  23. Going from a 4-speed to a 5-speed and an looking for recommendations on a reliable shop that can rebuild the 5-speed for me. It has some bearing shavings in it. thanks
