It does over-protect... I had to ask him. You should see what he is up to now! He is making aluminum rear calipers to match the Brembo aluminum calipers I have on the front of my Porsche. These will reduce the weight by 4# per corner. These are the fronts - gorgeous! I'm hoping to talk him into making aluminum Sumitomo copies... They would run about $600 - $700 without pads.

Well, if you're in SLC and you don't mind wandering down to Sandy, a friend of mine restores brakes down there. He has a set of cores already so you can call him up and pick up a set of new ones and just drop yours off. That'll take care of your brakes! He restored these Alfa Romeo Brembo's for my Porsche and restored my stock Sumitomo's so they look like jewelry. There is a thread in the brake section about his process. His screen name here is Eric_Shea.

The change in wheel diameter is essentially the easiest gear change you can do. I agree that 14" wheels really liven up the Z but unfortunately, tire selection has made the 14" wheel obsolete for me... I run 15" at the track and autocross and will probably get some 16X7 or 8 street wheels. Nice pics guys... I love Road America!

I ordered one from Amazon a few minutes ago. Silverstreak1971 had told me to get one as I complained about the jackhammer that was the fuel pump I got from Summit Racing. Sad thing is the Summit Racing model I got was about half again as expensive.

Ha Bruce! I do have a set of core SU carbs sitting around somewhere with a manifold that I almost rebuilt and put on when I was frustrated with my 'triple-trouble'. But they aren't the flat-tops. Not sure what boat they are preventing from drifting...

Spitz although I have done probably a 1000 autocrosses, I have only done about 5 track days. For that reason, I will be staying away from Laguna Seca for a while yet...

I agree with Carl... Besides, we need to put the myth that 'cash' means anything to a dealership. The guy who 'sets up your financing' makes a very good living by finding out what interest rate you 'could' get and then giving you something higher. They get you to go for that by 'throwing in' the extended warranty or in the old days mudflaps, undercoating, rustproofing. I went to a dealership to buy a Boxster and found the one I wanted. My bank told me to 'write a check' and we will sort it out in the morning. The dealership guy who 'sets up your financing' tried desperately to get me to take their financing. Later that month I was at the Home and Garden show and there was a builder there with sample drawings of custom homes he had done. Sure enough, there was a blueprint there for the guy who 'sets up your financing'. It was a 7 figure home...

You Mikuni guys, Keith when asked if he could speak to tuning these and other types of carbs said that the 'physics' are the same... That said, we now have 4 guys who are for sure showing up... Conedodger Silverstreak LeonV Spitz17 I will update this list as we go along... We need 10-12. Don't make me invite my Porsche friends with their downdrafts!

Ok, turns out the electric fan and the fuel pump are both wired to the top left circuit on the fuse box. The fan did not have a relay. My fuse box is now slightly melted but usable. As a temporary solution, the fuel pump now has a 30amp fuse inline as well as the relay. The fan has a relay and a 30amp fuse inline. I intend to wire the fuel pump in the same way as Carl's archived data from 1973 in the near future as well as replace the fuse box with one of the bladed fuse circuit board units sold by MSA. Any thoughts?

Carl, Thanks for the archived data. I have always had an electric pump installed since the 1980's when I bought the car. But, it was always wired to the front with a long power wire and a short ground. Owner mod I am sure. I will check for the relays. I doubt that a failed relay could have caused the problem as it has never been hooked up that way for me...

I think that is enough interest. I will talk to Keith Franck and see if I can make this happen soon. The shop it will take place at is called Original Customs in Sonoma CA. It is a restoration shop that does a lot of Porsche work but has done some Datsun work. In fact, there is a 280Z in the shop right now. He is a master welder and fabricator and builds cages as well. Mark, the owner would prefer a Sunday as his shop week starts on Sunday and is closed on Saturday. We can have a BBQ, but we will have to organize that ourselves. For those of you who are not aware, Keith makes the fuel level tool and hypojets. If he can't help you tune your carbs, your carbs are probably not the problem...
