barn find...1970 Datsun 240z
Excellence Magazine which is of course, a Porsche magazine did an article where they took an abused and rusted beyond belief 356 that was found in some woods and restored it. They proved that with insane effort, you can make a concours car out of a POS. My grandparents generation used to call that making a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I say this because you can fix that car. It might take 'insane' effort though, meaning you will spend much more in money, blood, sweat, tears than you can ever hope to get out of it. There are some exceptions. Did the car belong to some famous person? Is there documented evidence that this car has very low mileage? Is it one of the first 100 cars made? A little introspection will tell you if you have the time, money, skills, patience to take on such a project. If you find you don't, $1000 might be even a bit high...

Where is the cheapest NOS Door panels? 240Z
Used is always cheaper. Classic Datsun Motorsports is always my first choice. MSA is always a close second...

Playing with a wideband
Actually, I am surprised at just how good your original numbers are considering you're working with carbs and not EFI. I am not familiar with SU's as far as what adjustment they have. If they were Webers I would just go down a number on the idle jets.

Name of Datsun Dealer in California in Early 70s
Yes, I have spent hours in that Bass Pro Shop while trapped in Manteca... Loved it.

Name of Datsun Dealer in California in Early 70s
Manteca isn't very big... It has two hospitals but one was surrounded by corn fields as little as 5 years ago. Two big streets Main and Yosemite. Highway 99 to the East, 5 to the West... Car dealers are on the East side of town...

3 years of sitting... what to do first?
While many of the suggestions are things you 'should do' I have found the Datsun Z to be so hardy and willing that all you 'have to do' is hook up jumper cables, turn the key and wait until she barks to life... Done it a few times. Don't try this with a Porsche. That is another story though...

Hey I'ma new guy
No carbs on the 280Z so those were from an earlier car. Bruce Palmer is our resident expert on carbs. Basically, they were round top or flat top, and had different numbers of screws in the tops. Most would say you don't want the flat tops. They are easy to identify. They have flat tops! Blue is the stock block color...

Hey I'ma new guy
Welcome... N42 heads were found on '75-'76 280Z 2.8 engines. It would not be unusual to see one migrate to an earlier car. Not much in the way of smog stuff for it except the EGR which IIRC was attached to the exhaust manifold? The E88 intake could possibly have some smogish connections. I wouldn't know. I have a spare stock intake and SU set up but I am not sure what year it is. I can check it to see if I see smog stuff... Main smog issues came into play with the '73 flat top carbs.

The March Sacramento Z Car Reunion
So I hope to see a bunch of Z car peeps at the March Sacramento Z Car Reunion... We want to talk with the Porsche boys and see if we can get a Datsun vs: Porsche Track Challenge going for sometime this year. We would all get together at the track in a Northern California Racing Club event at Thunderhill or Buttonwillow and compare times... We can put Bill and Gary in a class by themselves to make it fair to us track NOOB's...
