  1. I was looking today for parts for my 914 and came across HLS3017369 in a local junk yard. It had a some niggling little interior screws and such that I needed, but I also grabbed the aftermarket front and rear swaybars and blue (Suspension Techniques?) springs all the way around. Just for giggles, I grabbed the SU's and manifold as well as the aftermarket headers. I didn't take it, but the exhaust from the header back was new... I don't need any of this stuff but it seemed too good to risk it going to the crusher with the car. Oh! It has a Series I rear hatch with the vertical defroster stripes and vents. I wasn't aware that these went this deep into the VIN#'s? On 914World we have a VIN registry to record our own, and 'dead' VIN#'s.
  2. New ones I found...
  3. Both the 914 and the Z leak a tiny bit. I figure they are just marking their garage territory...
  4. He sells the 914 reproduction fiberglass core at $105 for the pair retail. As I said, he would very probably do a group buy to sell out the first run. Full replacement panels? I have seen a few NOS panels in black and blue selling on eBay for $900+. I do ok but I'm not stupid. Where are these replacement panels coming from?

That thing is so light weight I hear it went 53 laps on its first set of tires. That is something close to 4 times the laps the other cars were doing. As for the narrow front end, I bet the turn in was incredible as long as they can keep if from pushing...
  6. I recently bought the vinyl kit for my door panels from Classic Datsun Motorsport. The quality exceeded my expectations! Then came the problem. I discovered that my door panel pressed board was kind of wonky... Here is the good news; I have a friend in Oregon who has a company that manufactures parts for vintage Porsches. His quality is impeccable. If he can't make it better or as good as OEM, he just will keep trying till he does. He made door panels for my 914 with a fiberglass core and new vinyl that looks EXACTLY like the factory panels. They will never warp because they are fiberglass and could care less about moisture. He has agreed to make door panel cores out of fiberglass for our early Z cars. He needs excellent core panels to work with though... :disappoin I got crap. Anyone have a set of great ones he can use? The good news is that when he makes a new product he usually has a group buy and sells the first batch at his cost. You can see examples of his work at his website 914rubber.com
  7. A Z racer at Blackhawk source might be Phil Reith. He would know.. I had mine Jet-Hot coated which is supposed to move the heat along and mitigate some of that. If it's any consolation, when I arrived in California I discovered that many of the factory exhaust manifolds in the Pick and Pull were warped as well. I have also heard of having the mating surface milled to make it perfectly flat.
  8. My hero growing up. I feel blessed to have been there and seen him race in person. A great competitor who happened to be a pretty good actor...
  9. A close up shot of the Frizzelle car just off the trailer, back in the day... Next to a pic of it just a few weeks back at the Canepa Restoration facility in California...
  10. Bob Sharp Racing Z...
  11. Here's one from Japan I suspect...
  12. A couple more...
  13. I know but that is what the guy offered... 8( My wife is going down there on business so I think I have this covered. Now if I can just get them sterilized and bagged so they can go into her A4 2T 8)
  14. In case you're wondering what will replace these wheels and tires: 15X7 Panasports with V710 Kumho's 8) The Ice Queen needs sticky's to fly right?
  15. I have sold the wheels that are on my Z now to a guy in Whittier CA. He wants the Azenis too so shipping is prohibitive. $50 gas money to anyone who can get these to Whittier from Reno, Sacramento, or Sonoma!
  16. Eric, I just talked to the owner and he said he doesn't need any prior notice. He says take over the damn parking lot! He loves it! Coincidentally, that is the same date and time I picked for the June Reno event...
  17. Bill Madamba showed up too... As well as about 1/2 dozen 914 guys. You wouldn't notice them because their cars seldom run. This will work guys. We maybe just need someone to take the reins and host... I had 24 people in Reno 8D
  18. I know he can get them. I will talk to Eric in the next couple days and put together a group buy. He has done this for Porsche guys and he almost literally gives you his price. I don't think he can by the rules he is supposed to follow but he is a great guy and he likes the car-guys more than the supplier guys.
  19. If you guys want, I can ask my friend Eric to do a group buy on Porterfield R4S pads and shoes (yes, they are available, or were last year). He is my friend who did the brake restoration thread.
  20. Dropped by Canepa Design while I was at Laguna Seca a couple weeks back for a 914 event... The Frizzell car is looking good!
  21. Our own Coop at Reno-Fernely just this year. Larry drives the snot out of this thing and does it as often as he possibly can...
  22. I paid just under $100 for Classic Vehicle plates here in Nevada a couple weeks back. I am limited to 5000 miles a year which is ok because I am limited to 2500 miles a year by my insurance policy. If I had not gotten Classic Vehicle plates I would have had to smog test it here in Washoe County. You also have to smog back to 1968 in Clark County. It would never have passed smog with the triple Webers...
  23. Ok, so even though I don't live there anymore and in most cases can't be there, I have been asked to get the Sacramento Z Car Reunion up and going again... Fine! :pirate: So, the May Sacramento Z Car Reunion will be May 19th 9am to noonish at Family Donuts and Deli. Still located at the Northwest corner of Fair Oaks Blvd. and San Juan Avenue. Come on down and see the old gang! Brag about how well you will be doing at the next autocross. See you there!
  24. John, The real test is in how long it takes to the heat to get out, not how hot they get. I would test each at 10 minutes 20 minutes and half an hour. The hypothesis being that it takes longer for the heat to get out of the painted caliper. I agree though, on a street car it isn't an issue.
