  1. I think you may find a book on rebuilding the L Series Engine by Honsowitz??? Helpful. I have a copy at home but I am in my office on campus. Pretty basic motor to rebuild. Certainly less complex than a Porsche flat 6... Arne is quicker on the post and more accurate as well... Monroe it is. Honsowitz does write some other good Nissan/Datsun books though...
  2. Jared, I wouldn't worry about it. If it isn't messing with the alignment it isn't an issue. Bang it out. If it isn't structural and doesn't effect alignment it would be like having plastic surgery for a blemish on your arse. Why? Just keep your pants on What part of town are you from?
  3. The "auto" part of the autoerotic asphyxiation means he did it to himself. Not at all uncommon. In fact when they said he was found naked and hung in his wardrobe closet, autoerotic asphyxiation was the very first thing that came to my mind... I was amazed that the Thai police thought he committed suicide. People do some weird things in the name of self-stimulation.
  4. Shhh... My Z thinks she stole that cover after she bullied the 911 and ate it's lunch.
  5. Very timely! I have been covering my Z with a Porsche 911 cover and it is a bit of a stretch!!! Just a little longer than a 911...
  6. Fat Tire - served at 33 degrees.

That fuel pressure can be a problem if you get the engine hot enough or have a hot enough ambient temperature. Then once you shut it off it can be hard to start. Sounds like things are still cool in Delaware...
  8. Pegasus Racing. They have a website too...
  9. My guess would be that his labor rate is $110/hour and he charges a minimum of 1 hour labor wise. Hardest thing about changing spark plugs is bending over to turn the wrench. I would do it yourself...
  10. I grew up on that lake... Lots of memories of riding horses around there. Nice Z.

The Gary Cohen I knew should be use to a gas smell... Albeit Sevoflurane or Desflurane... Are you from Oregon Gary? If your engine is running rich and your rear hatch seal is not good, you may have a gas/exhaust smell in the cabin...
  12. I agree! That is my wife, and mother of my four children... She thinks she is overweight at 115# when her normal is 108#. She is amazing. I took her to a concert this weekend in Reno for her birthday. I had met the promoter through her cousin and only told her we had pretty good seats. We sat next to the the artists husband in the first row. Got to meet her and have dinner with her after the show. I think I got a few "spouse" points banked... You are probably right about the steel wool vs. 3M pads... I took another look at the Wick Humble book and he only mentions lacquer thinner followed by clear lacquer. On the metal he says sanding followed by satin black.
  13. Perfect! Thanks guys. I have this perfect new dash that I don't want to install next to that powdered out shield.
  14. John! I am in the right Fair Oaks!
  15. I am going to be installing the new dash soon and I am planning on refinishing the metal peice that goes between the dash and window. What is the stock finish? It looks like paint but thick?
  16. John, Not really familiar with that route. I do a little test track after any project by going Winding Way East towards Folsom from Fair Oaks. At Hazel, I turn left and go to Sunset where I turn right. I then follow it down through the curvys to Main and up Main to Madison. Then Madison to Folsom Blvd to Hwy 50 back to Sunrise. It gives me a good variety of roads. Sunday the 31st I have a gathering of car guys at a place called Family Donuts and Deli at Fair Oaks Blvd. and San Juan Avenue. 9am to noonish. Come on down. Mostly Porsche guys but Mat has shown up and another guy named Alex who has a great 510 among other cars will be there...
  17. John, We are probably neighbors? I had great luck using a heavy swaybar on the front and a heavier swaybar on the rear. I remember someone saying they had seen smaller front swaybars on a truck! Swaybars have little effect on ride comfort in steady state driving but come in to play in cornering. In order to really consider springs people will need to know what your purposes are for changing from stock. Engineers are smart people. Why do you think you want to change what they designed? In other words if you just street drive your car, you probably only need to refresh the stock suspension with stock parts. Springs get tired for sure... I like Tokico shocks on my Z but I use Koni shocks on my Porsche cars. I guess I don't even know if Koni is available for the Z! The Illumina shocks were on the car when I bought it. Little things, like the rack bushings, the TC kit, the steering shaft donut, and refreshing the rubber bushings in your suspension really bring life to the handling of the Z. If your purpose is street driving that may be all you need... Be careful you don't modify the car to the point you no longer like it.

Not true... He isn't being malicious. He isn't asking him "Do you even have a Z" and really meaning "What are you doing here"... Besides, the kid only misspelled fan. Nothing to ridicule there. You can pick on me all you want. I think you already know you would be in over your head. Just leave the kid alone.
  19. Better yet, a magnetic bowl in the shape of the T-Chain opening...
  20. Note to self: Need to invent magnetic gloves...

Steve, Do a search for a company called No Bad Days Racing. He is a guy I know named Mike Zois. He is a Porsche guy but he just did the side banner for me in red to match my interior. Excellent work...
  23. 84 911 with 55K miles when it is really nice and my BMW R1100 RT-SE on the rest of my commute days. When I am off, my runaround and get things vehicle is a 4Runner that I have to steal from my wife.

There are people who would repair that rust. It is probably worth seeking out a buyer who is interested in a low VIN car and is willing to take it on. I am no concour weenie but original would probably be a real reach. The value in repair would be strictly in the low VIN. On a dare a group of guys took a Porsche 356 that had sat in a field neglected for years and repaired it to very much original condition. I believe it cost something like $90K to do??? Luckily, the 356 market will bear that.
  25. The Black Pearl and Zap cars had passenger side mirrors and a rear louver to go along with the graphics.
